  1. We’ve all felt like this in the past, but time heals and we forget just how bad we felt under SOD, McInnes, LJ, Holden, it’s nothing new. Just look forward to the future when you’ll have forgotten how bad it used to be and you’ll be ready to have another bout ‘never having felt so detached from the club’. It’s called the City circle of life.
  2. Yep, agree with all of that, but there needs to be an application to adduce bad character before it’s allowed and I’m not sure a 13 year old conviction will make it, it should, but they’re overly cautious about allowing it in my experience. That being said, irrespective of the questionnaire that the jurors filled out before hand on their knowledge of JB, there’s no way at least a quarter of them won’t have knowledge of him… this is football… and the good people of Sheffield love their football… and if you know football, you know Barton is a thug!
  3. Yeh, there are several gateways to adduce bad character, 8 I think maybe. I don’t remember what they all are, but one is definitely calling a witness a liar. Another is having committed offences so similar that the jury must know and… rather than me trying to remember them, here’s a list I’ve found. These are the only ways a court can ever hear about previous convictions of a defendant…
  4. The biggest question here is whether there’s going to be anyone speaking out in Joey’s favour… all we’ve seen so far is evidence that really is showing his guilt. The judge has said he expects the jury to retire to consider their verdict on Thursday. That leaves us only tomorrow left. So tomorrow we’re presumably going to have cross examination of Joey, prosecution and defence closing speeches and judges summing up. There’s not really any time for anything else, which baffles me… because this appears so one sided it should’ve been a guilty plea… that’s unless there’s an update from today that I’m as of yet unaware of. Time will tell, but I think Joey’s getting convicted.
  5. God I love it when people talk about law and actually know what they’re talking about! Top work! ?
  6. And Joey’s team aren’t allowed to say he’s lying… well, they are actually, but if he calls into question the character of a witness then the court become able to inform the jury of Barton’s previous bad character (they’re otherwise not allowed to know!) and his defence team really wouldn’t want to be calling the witness a liar for that exact reason.
  7. As we’ve heard in the trial so far, this is a long way from one man’s word against another.
  8. Really good point. But I’d guess that’s above that law being employed as a manager. Silly, but probably true.
  9. So the next witness is the assistant coach to Stendel. He says he found Stendel bloodied and shocked. Defence put it to him that he deliberately antagonised during goal celebrations to put Barnsley 3-1 up. He denied. Jury have been told they’ll retire to consider verdicts on Thursday. A lot of Wednesday will be taken up by closing speeches and judge’s summing up. That doesn’t leave a lot of time for anyone to speak in Barton’s favour and if that’s the case, there really is only one way this is going.
  10. Can’t wait to see what evidence they’ve got. It’s got to be the first accounts on body cam surely?
  11. I’d be happy to bet £100 that he won’t go to prison. He has previous, but it’s very old plus he has a job and presumably dependents. So I’d say there’s little to no chance. If he were to be convicted however, that’d create a real problem for his domestic violence trial, which the courts take very seriously…
  12. I’ve just made the mistake of reading gaschat. Some of them really don’t want to accept that he might have done it. Embarrassing.
  13. He’s being represented by the bloke who defended Dale Creghan. For those of you who aren’t aware, that’s the bloke who made a bogus burglary call - PC’s Nicola Hughes and Fiona Bone turned up and he murdered them using a gun and hand grenade. I have no further comment to make.
  14. Don’t celebrate too soon. He’ll have a grossly overpaid QC representing him no doubt.
  15. Joey’s got a real problem here. In his prepared statement he denied physical contact. We now have a witness saying it definitely happened, therefore he can’t really go back and claim it was accidental. I think he’s in real trouble here.
  16. Plus I’m not sure Germans would be classified in the act.
  17. Is that a witness other than Stendel?
  18. Twice now I’ve misread the title as ‘strikers’, question still works well though.
  19. I know giving Baker stick got a lot of criticism on the MDT, but there are questions that need to be asked… Is Baker braver than the rest and goes in for the dangerous ones, or does he have a glass chin/body? I’ve genuinely never known anything like it - especially in the position that’s made for the toughest players.
  20. Good point. I suppose in these days of statistical analysis, there’s probably data to show how far they’ve run in training or what their maximum heart rate was. Kasey Palmer must be enjoying his 20k quite a lot.
  21. Yeh… I like to think the club activating a year is more about protecting an asset rather than seeing him as the future. He can look really decent against poor teams, but I’d be very surprised if he’s in Nige’s long term plans.
  22. Easy to say when we’ve lost, but Scott and Benarous were brilliant the other night. But that’s the nature of bi-polar otib for you.
