  1. Well, if away fans are throwing, inter alia, vapes and coins, at home fans sitting below them, it seems quite fair (to me) to deprive them of such objects prior to entering the ground. Re. the confiscated coins, Sunderland have stated that this will be given to a charity of the away Club's choice. The legal definition of Theft, far more important in my view, requires 'the coins' to have been taken ....dishonestly.... I am quite sure a sign warning away supporters that, should they endeavour to bring coins with them in to the ground, such coins will be confiscated (and given to a charity of their Club's choice) should absolve Sunderland of any allegations of theft.
  2. Thanks for that lovely match report; a resumé of what was obviously a most wonderful day for you and your father, especially as you still remember it more than sixty years later. As you say, how different it must have been back then. I must admit, I don't think I have ever heard of Bert Tindill, the generous barman, but, thanks to Google, I see he was actually from God's own Country and played for both Doncaster and Barnsley (and Frickley Colliery?).
  3. Oh, I understood perfectly what you meant; I was just being sarcastic.
  4. Yes, I can imagine QUORDLE is quite frustrating on a small screen Another inspired guess with today's WORDLE. Wordle 499 3/6 ? ?? ????? Daily Quordle 280 quordle.com ??? ? ? ??? ?? ??? ???? ?? ????? ?? ????? ? ? ???? ? ????? ? ?? ? ??? ????? Both done for the day. Now I can get on with some work ?.
  5. Hmmm. I think that's the whole point of it ?.
  6. It has just occurred to me. Do you play these on line or in print? If you are playing QUORDLE on paper, I can well imagine it is challenging.
  7. Ha! You said you gave today's WORDLE a few hours' thought, but you would have finished today's QUORDLE whilst you were pondering ?.
  8. And this is why I maintain that WORDLE is almost a game of chance. I completed this one in three - as is often the case, due to an inspired guess - but could just as easily have failed completely. My success rate in WORDLE must be almost as low as 90%, whereas I still maintain a 100% success rate with QUORDLE, a game where a little bit of thought and patience (especially when there is an American spelling of a word!) leads inevitably to a successful completion. Give QUORDLE another try @Slacker; be patient, and you will not regret it.
  9. Which one was it, i.e. what number? I play it from France, but assume it is the same one, 498, but perhaps we are out of synch over here. Am I perhaps dancing around the wrong tune?
  10. Thanks, but I a having problems with REDDIT as well. I have finally found a stream using ESPN, so hoping the second half of the race is worth all the hassle - 37 laps gone so far!
  11. Does anybody have a likely stream for this? My favourites (Hesgoal, VIP etc.) have all crashed. Thanks in advance if anybody can help.
  12. I a sure he will be, especially if he can become even half as 'hard' as Gordon Parr was.
  13. Well, how about that. Wordle 498 3/6 ? ?? ????? Daily Quordle 279 quordle.com ? ? ?? ??? ? ????? ? ?? ? ????? ??? ?? ? ? ? ? ???? ? ???? ? ????? ?? ?????
  14. Luckily you didn’t take just a little bit longer to blow dry your hair ?, as Sri Lanka would have been almost all out by the time you came back down.
  15. I read it in French, although that is possibly why I found it tough going!
  16. I read The Plague some years later, after I had left school. The book I read in school was L’Étranger (The Stranger), although, to be fair, when I read it again some years later, I found it far more enjoyable, although, of course, my French had improved.
  17. Have you ever read any of his works? I (tried to) read some at school - very tough going.
  18. Thanks for that. A very nice article about a very nice man. I was particularly interested to read about the lengthy educational and training period. A friend of one of my daughters studied medicine, but unfortunately had to drop out after four years for medical health reasons, essentially stress. He was a very good student (top grades in both school and university), but just couldn’t hack the stress of medical training and subsequent exams. A great shame as, knowing his personality, I am sure he would have made a great GP.
  19. It may well be a proper football match, but not a proper football manager between them.
  20. Good game, good game. Nice to see you, Nice.
  21. Did anybody do it today? Wordle 491 6/6 ? ??? ??? ??? ????? Have you tried QUORDLE yet @Slacker?
  22. If only anybody who had ever held a cricket bat were to ask the same thing!
  23. If, as does seem very likely, this was indeed the case, one may also question as to why Webster's sale was rushed through in to the existing year's accounts, rather than holding on a few days and putting it in to the following year, resulting in a profit and, presumably, a nice bonus for MA. I believe @Davefevs has already alluded to this, but it would be fascinating to know the amount of any increased bonus MA received. The downshot, of course, certainly as far as City were/are concerned, is that whilst MA was presumably lining his already handsomely remunerated pockets as a result of the financial year's profits, the following financial year was deprived of a nice transfer fee, a sum that would have gone a long way to smoothing out our current FFP problems.
