Christ. Just had a think about that. I’m 40. More than half my life they’ve been below us and I’m pretty old!

    Im not far behind…

And yes; it’s 20 years since we had any meaningful league action against them - I remember well the last league win against them; them going up in the first minute, only for us to come back.

Thing is; it’s basically a near-childhood memory now - the games since haven’t carried the same weight, and don’t see matches like that retuning any time soon.

There's a young lad stands next to me he's been there with his friends the last couple of seasons, his mates weren't there, so when the East End were singing "Joey's going down" he turned to me and the conversation was.

    "Who are they singing about?"

    Me. "Joey Barton"

"Ah right,........ who does he play for these days?"

Me. "He doesn't play for anyone, he's Manager of the rovers"

"Ah right.......... and they aren't doing very well?"

Me. "No especially if they lose today"

    "Uhuh, what's the Cardiff score?"

That's how important they are in the scheme of things these days,  I think it's only us oldies, that have even a passing interest in their results.

    I get this.

I’m not super young but for me; Rovers haven’t been realistic opposition to us throughout most of my time supporting City - they are a hilarious side show rather than any kind of threat.

Cardiff on the other hand… been some close fought, fierce rivalry games across the last while, and I am more concerned about the games against them than I would one against Rovers.

Exactly, patience is required but a tiny minority haven’t got the bollocks for it.

You put it blunter than me, but you’re right.

While some of the criticism is warranted, unfortunately most is the whining of people who seem to either have no clue what is having to be done to sort us out, or just seem to weirdly think we are entitled to win every game.

It’s getting incredibly boring people flying off the handle all the time.

What happened to all the conversations on these boards in pre-season about the fact the best we could realistically hope for this season was painfully slow progress? Why does everyone tip us to struggle and then shit the bed when we draw at home to a resilient side?

    Couldn’t agree more.

Not happy with what occurred but this season will be one of ups (Cardiff, Reading) and downs (tonight, Blackpool) that if we’re going in the right direction will teach the team lessons and improve us long term.

But we’re still stuck with a suboptimal squad and are in the middle of a culture change. It’s turning an ocean liner not spinning on our heels; will take time, unfortunately.

  5. Shame we probably never saw the best of him, but I think personally; I’m done with buying for pure potential, and hoping that will work out.

If he generates some space on the wage bill (not even concerned with the fee) to potentially bring in some one to assist up top, it would work in our favour.

This season was always going to be an extension of the end of last, where NP works out who is with him, who isn’t, and moves things around to get us on track.

We are reaping what he sowed though.

A leaderless bunch of soft footballers.

Tbf he had some very decent players, problem was we sold most of them.

Not lionising the man, but he got as much out of the current crop as anyone gas since, ie not much. But he had some alight teams, we just cashed in on them.

Barton rejects it’s a relegation on his cv. Says he can’t wait to get rid of all the players. Said some of them need to take in the stadium as they’ll never play there again. What an absolute *** of the highest order

This is just typical of him tbf.

He preaches accountability and quotes Proust and all the **** but when the chips are down, he’s the first to find a scapegoat.

I sincerely hope they keep him, as he’s as likely to burn them down as to fix them next year.

  8. Just to say; those urging caution in laughing at the gas as we have a very loseable fixture tonight, you can bet your life that they’d be taking the opportunity if the roles were reversed, and with gusto.

We may get hammered on Sky by Brentford but I tell you; I’d rather get scalped by a team hoping to make the premiership while being mid table in the championship than get shellacked by a mid table team while fighting relegation in league one.

    That's some record

    P    W    D    L    Win %

    I’m sorry, but I have to call you up on this as being unfair;

That’s nearly ten whole games that this manager didn’t lose!

Given enough time I’m sure he can hit that crucial miles stone of a cool two digits of matches they’ve not got done over in...
