So - Bolton just won at WBA and the consensus is we should have enough to win?

We haven't won a league game away this year. We have a terrible record up there too. I will be pleased with a point personally.

Can’t disagree with being pleased with a point, but if previous records (i.e. us not winning away in 14) meant anything, then Bolton should have had no right to win last weekend, as had won something like one away game in a year, or similar.

I'm afraid I have to agree. A point is probably more likely and may well become a feature of our season. We haven't won an away game in 14 matches so a win today would be a massive pick-me-up.

With the number it new players (or at least new regulars to the first team squad) it’s hard to know if last season’s records mean much to them, or if this is a great start, and I do hope we go all out for it today, as the biggest criticism I could level at us when we played at Bolton last year is we let them bring it to us.

  2. A note on the ramifications of yesterday’s match after last night’s matches and today’s single Championship game;

With both Sunderland and now Birmingham winning since we snatched victory from Barnsley’s grasp in the last minute yesterday, they’ve dropped down into the bottom three.

And despite wanting to take the ‘high road’; after their support’s near total silence when not in front yesterday (and even then they were hardly ferocious) other than goading LJ just prior to our second equaliser, I’m a little smug that results have ended up with us level on points with 5th place, and the Tykes two points from safety.

  3. Gutting - not what we needed at all would have even taken a draw after what was a draining game on Tuesday, but that is frustrating.

Think we need more options up front and quick; waiting for injured players to return and relying on a Bobby when others are misfiring is blunting our edge.  Be good to see a fresh face up top ASAP so we avoid drifting out of contention.

Derby is going to be very tough.

Walsh in the hole and Pato left?

Or Walsh left and Pato in the hole?

Well, if we’re not sure, imagine Norwich will struggle to figure it out!

If you factor in Bobby only moving up top this year, we’re playing with no recognised striker - plenty of potential for runs from midfield and interchanging positions; could be very interesting to see how Norwich cope.

Let's not despair...I watched us lose 6-0 at Ipswich in the season we got to the play-off final...a long way to go.

Was thinking exactly this as the final whistle went - was at that game, and proved the saying “better to lose five nil once than one nil five times”.

We need more players ASAP; the lads we have are out in their feet and have a gruelling January up ahead.

Play a youth team at Watford, rest up the others, buy anyone we are looking at quickly, and we go again.

  6. Hope we throw everything at Villa today; imagine many of those players who are first names on the team sheet will be rested on Sat for the FA Cup, so if they give it all they have, they’ll get a bit of rest before the Man City away game.

Watched both Villa’s games against Brentford and Sheffield United recently and was not impressed by them, specifically in defence, so I really hope we can give them some trouble today.

Fancy an unusual name appearing in the score sheet for us today; perhaps a Baker or Taylor goal.  Also have a weird feeling we might do surprisingly well.

Until we kick off I’ll be rooting for QPR and Sheffield United - could do with both of them getting wins to motivate the lads with the promise of going a couple of weeks in 2nd.
