Thank you. I don't really follow the youth teams but I am very proud of what we have produced.

I think my comments are more about Bell and Mehmeti, especially Bell. But I am disappointed that Yeboah has just disappeared off the radar.

It's still worth remembering, how many games we have coming up and how many players get used each game. Some thought a few players looked leggy on Tuesday, so we need options to freshen things up. It doesn't necessarily mean Bell and Mehmeti missing out altogether.

    This is my concern too.

When we brought Manning in it was framed as he's an excellent on the grass coach who will improve players and that he has plenty of experience in coaching youth players. I think lots was said about the pathway.

I am concerned that the the signing of Twine and Mebude is blocking that pathway. Although they both appear to be very good players. But the likes of Sam Bell and Yeboah and not going to become very good players unless they have that first team exposure.

Why is a loan signing and potential future transfer being authorised when it goes against what our stated strategy is? Our strategy appears to be all over the place. Especially with what you mentioned about it not fitting with how weve played recently.

From the times I have watched the U21's I would say we are in a "gap year". The players that have graduated the previous group are either in our first team squad, or playing out their contracts and will probably move on in the summer.

The next group down are being used to supplement that age group so they are probably a season or two away from being considered.

Players like Nelson and Yeboah have been considered for involved at the next level because they an attribute that sets them apart, but they are still behind to some extent.

There is some talent coming through, but not necessarily in the areas we need right now, Taine Anderson looks a very good prospect, but we aren't desperate for full/wingbacks, Meerholz isn't going to get a game at DM this season.

Don’t really see what’s in it for the player, must be a decent contract offer?

It’s good for us as it’s secured someone who we clearly rate, who may have more options / better contract offer / ambition to say after promotion in the summer

Even he stayed at Derby and got a pay rise that would match our wage offer, he would miss out on a signing on fee, which could be quite a good amount.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but are you getting the name mixed up with Billy Menmuir? He came to City with Gerry Gow and the Ritchie brothers and was apparently better than all of them, but got homesick and went back to Scotland.

Yes you are right. There was another one who stuck in my mind, he suffered from alopecia and was completely bald at 18. Was that Menmuir?

    Great article.

Ferguson has this reputation for being great with his former players but he treated Ralph really shabbily.

He stopped him from getting a trial with a league club after Ralph sold a story to the media.

Ralph was an alcoholic not an evil person & deserved to be treated far better, he was by no means the worst player Ferguson signed, that was simply vindictive.

Yes, for those who bemoan our recruitment team, that list of failures that Fergie bought should be a bit of an eye opener.

Interesting then that out of that side only Collier & Lee (elsewhere) “made it”.

Wardle & Harding did have careers in the FL though.

I thought I would know more of the Ipswich players too, but only Burley, Gates and Parkin jump out at me.

  7. Looking at the U21 thread I saw the name Billy Milne in a team from 1973 who I vaguely remembered from those days. I seem to remember he was good but couldn't settle and went back to Scotland. I tried to look him up but there is a more famous much older player with the same name.

Anyway, I also came across this quite moving article about Ralph Milne, it's quite old so may have been posted on here before, but hopefully it's new to some.

It's quite long too, but worth persevering to the end.

The goal that is referenced is here.

The facts are he played in the u21s on the Monday I believe and then a few days later played in an 11 v 11 in house friendly where he picked up a set back. That's what my rushed back comments have centred around. That he was played too soon in that 11 vs 11 after playing in the 21s a few days before.

It's not alternative facts. It's THE facts. You may disagree on my opinion that he was rushed back and thats cool but in my opinion he was.

No. If he had played on the Monday after the Cardiff game, as was planned by the previous medical team, that would have been rushing him back.

The 45 minutes in atrocious conditions for the U21's that I went to watch went well, as he told me himself after the game how pleased he was that he had no reaction at all from the knee.

The hamstring ( a long standing issue for him) went he was running backwards into position at a free kick, and slightly lost balance. Literally nothing to do with being rushed back or his treatment or anything that could be considered a fault in the process.

    Are you new to OTIB?

Clearly not Dave, but the current overall feeling on this forum is very toxic, even posters whom I normally respect and agree with seem to being dragged into the negativity.

It might be time for me to take a rest from here, because its not fun reading some of the supposition on here being treated like fact, when I know a good percentage of it is completely wrong.

I don't appreciate being called a liar when all I've done is posted the facts.

To be clear I said "Rob played in a u21s game and then a few days later played in 11 v 11 where he suffered a set back"

    Cheers.

Ok not a lie, let's be fair and call it "alternative facts" that seems to wok for some. Your clear implication is that Rob was being rushed back by the current fitness team which wouldn't have happened previously. You have repeated these alternative facts numerous times. They were, and remain, alternative facts which I have also repeatedly explained to you, but you continue to post the alternative facts that are in your head to suit your agenda.

No. Me and you may have differing opinions on things and thats fine but we're both coming from the same place of wanting Bristol City to be successful.

The reason we get called "little Bristol City" in the footballing world is because it's perceived that we are happy to accept mediocrity here.

I'm of the belief that you only achieve by having and demanding high performance/standards.

Like it or not when Pearson departed, the club put out videos showing X amount of players back in training. Why they did that, who knows.

Since Manning has come in and Pearson and Rennie have departed we have seen -

Atkinson played in a u21s game and then a few days later in an 11 V 11 which he then picked up another injury which has set him back.

    Benarous picked up another injury.

Wells was said to be close to returning and then completely disappeared.

Naismith came back and got injured again.

Sykes got injured and we don't know when he'll be back. He appears to be behind schedule.

Twine picked up a small injury and started light work, they wanted him back for Coventry so upped his work which caused him to have a set back where a scan was then required.

To add balance the McCrorie return was done sensibly.

How can you look at all those things and think people's concerns about it is an agenda? It's quite clear something isn't quite right and it's right that some of us are questioning wtf is going on because all of those things are not just a coincidence.

You keep lying about this, I have told you repeatedly that the previous fitness people wanted Rob back two weeks earlier than he actually played and that the other injury he picked up was a recurrence of an issue he has had throughout his career.

The current team have been really good with him, he is fit now, but needs minutes somewhere to supplement that.

The thing is, performances usually align to results. Not always but it often happens.

By which I mean the 2 can catch up..If a side are riding their luck but results are strong the two will often eventually align and perhaps over correct.

Vice versa if playing well but results poor to mediocre.

Problem is here, it's hard to know exactly where we are at..performances have been varied, results have been varied under Manning. For Coventry and Watford away, we have Millwall and Norwich at home.

Sorry Mr P but I don't think we have been any more consistent in performance or results for several years now, mainly because of the division we are in. Outside those who make it into the top 3 or 4, all clubs are inconsistent, how often do you see top ten sides with minus Goal Difference, that 10 points will cover 12 places?

I think it's all because it's transfer window time.. the typical toy throwing time of the year. My club is the worst we didn't get x, y and z players. There's probably a point in there (we should of done more business in the summer) but it's babyish to say the least.

You're right though it wasn't by any means perfect but getting a draw at a play off teams ground who have hit the best form in the league is a decent result.

We should have bought more than 5 players in the summer? When was the last time we did that?

  14. I see the Unders lost 1-0 to Spurs, 88th minute winner.

I don't know how accurate those sofascore type sites are, but one I saw suggested that Acey was right back and Idehen was centre midfield?

I’m not sure the OP or anyone on the thread suggested the team lack passion. The points on the thread have been more around a lack of creative freedom, spontaneity or instinctiveness which the OP suggested may feed from the “emotion” piece. I don’t think over 14 league games that’s necessarily an unfair observation.

I do. I think the "emotion" that he prefers to comes from the crowd and players reaction to it. All those cries to "get it forward" when there isn't a pass on for example.

It looks like he wants the players to switch off to that.

Friend who told us this on Friday night said his source said it’s a bad quad and it’s ‘up to 3 months’. I seriously hope he isn’t right!

I was told he "felt some discomfort" and was told to rest it. That was Thursday.
