Feel for for the guy if he’s got mental health issues, but some people are just arseholes, you don’t have to have something gone on in childhood or in your life to become a arsehole, if that was the case you’re making excuses for  every arsehole in Society

Doesn't really seem to be the case though for Alli does it? Where he has clearly had a lot going on in both childhood and adulthood which has seriously affected his mental health...

    Simply because you are wrong.

Using your analogy, you go into the bakers to buy the last doughnut for £1 but just before you complete the transaction I come into the shop and want that doughnut, so I offer £1.50. The baker will then accept my offer too and let the doughnut decide where it goes.

The reason it is an auction is because more than one party wants the doughnut.

Supply and demand, it’s one of the basic elements of economics.

Is that because it's a doughnut the baker needs to add an extra 0?

As someone who I suspect is a good deal older than you and followed his career closely as a Scot, I think it’s fair to say Big Dunc was a ‘character’.

He had a decent career but is probably best known for going to prison as the first player in the UK to be found guilty of assault of another player during a game. He was playing for Rangers at the time and the SFA refused to step in. If memory serves I think he spent 6 weeks in Barlinne prison in Glasgow. It makes Strangeways look like a holiday camp in comparison. As a result he refused to play for Scotland again.

Off the field, in his first spell at Everton, two individuals decided unwisely to break into Duncs house. It was a decision they came to regret prior to the police arriving.

He is hero worshipped at Everton and I suspect will end up back there in some capacity.

Very much appreciate the post and opinion. I do remember hearing him and these two stories on the radio, very much a character!

As a Scot do you see him as a manager? From only seeing him on the touchline, I feel like a lot of people’s perception of his managerial potential is based of his footballing career/character, and not based on his managerial attributes.

Very odd in some ways. FGR asked permission to speak to the Forfar manager Ray McKinnon, back end of last week with a view to him working with Big Dunc.

McKinnon is rated as a good coach.

Seems likely it’s a disagreement with the board then.

As someone who did not grow up watching him as a player, I’m failing to see the fascination with Big Dunc as a manager.

Never thought he got a consistent run, in a consistent team or in a consistent position. He arrived and we went almost straight into covid. He had a lot against him in our most dour sides in years. Watched him play back in his own country against PSG a few weeks back and he looked good.

Is time to move on but reckon we’ll look back and think we didn’t do him many favours. He’ll be a good player in a top league for years imo.

I don't fit he fit the way we wanted to play until Pearson came in. LJ seemed to sign him more as a potential player rather than for the team.

Pearson was fair with HNM in my opinion, he had his chances was playing regularly enough under NP until it was clear he had already decided he wanted to be elsewhere.

On the quote legendary massengo thread, I upset his psycofans before, they were swearing shouting at me palace were bidding thirty million he's Thierry Henry's best mate, Chelsea want him, etc  I  really don't think you can have a sensible conversation with them

Just to clarify - You're not in favour of retiring his shirt number?

I actually think a target man is becoming more effective than ever. Lot's of CB's are now becoming more of a footballer, great with the ball at their feet but not as big and strong as previously. Prime example is Naismith or Vyner for us.

We got bullied away at Luton, who had the big bloke up front. Morris? Can't remember.

Anyway yes the game is becoming more technical, but a target man can still do the job and cause havoc.

True, but their forwards were so much more than big brutes that didn't move and just held it up. They could press defences, cause havoc and make runs in behind too.

Agree with you, shame that an academy player is going about it in that way though after one good season, when he wasn't exactly pulling up any trees beforehand and the club stuck with him.

True, but he will also argue that he had an opportunity, not because the club afforded him it because with injuries there was no real choice, and he took it. Maybe this summer is the one chance he will have for a big move whereas a few more years and he will not be a young centre half.

I don't blame him, he is a smart lad, and has been with us for a long time. It's not unheard of that someone may simply just think a fresh start may be good for them and their career.

I think so, but as Dave said, I think the offer on the table for Vyner will be a better contract than he had previously, just not at the top of the wage structure. Pring is slightly younger and has more time on his contract though, so isn't a time critical issue.

I think if Vyner doesn't sign, he will eventually be phased out of the squad in this coming season, which I can't see him benefiting from in the slightest, as won't see any clubs being in for him if he only plays max 20 games or so next season.

Agreed, although maybe he is waiting to see if any reported interest in him leads to a bid. I think he may well sign on later in the transfer window/just after it shuts if nothing comes about.

I’ve said this on a couple of threads - I think he’s going this summer.

For as good as Zak was last season he was above his prior standards, and was on his way out the summer before. We will have (when all fit) McCrorie, Atkinson, Dickie, Naismith and offered to Kalas. Add Pring/Roberts and that’s 7 CB options without Zak. It’s clear to me we’re planning without him, and I stand by that he should only be given a contract reflective of what Nige thinks his worth is to the team over the next 3 years.

If Kalas accepts, I think Vyner leaves. Even if he doesn’t I’m not convinced he stays.

Both Atkinson and Kalas have been victims of long-term injuries. Naismith had a lot of niggles las season too, and I think we may see him more in front of the back four. I think we will try to keep Vyner for these reasons.
