  1. I think it’s a case of, off the wage bill, transfer fee secondary, especially in the currently depressed market.
  2. Sorry but I found both him and his teams very dislikable. I know he achieved a lot, but totally charmless and ignorant a lot of the time. My idea of football hell, being sat between him and Alex Ferguson on a long haul flight.
  3. The biggest problem is we don’t have an ingrained identity. Over too many years we have flipped and flopped from one way and another. The inference from Pearsons appointment was that part of his remit was to instil some sort of identity, not something that’s going to be achieved overnight.
  4. Very many years ago I was sent on a prospective middle managers course. The whole point of this course was this. As a manager or owner of a company you set your goals you wish to achieve, and then the process by which you achieve them. If you believe you have the right goals and processes to achieve them, and if you don’t why have you set them to start with, you them let the processes work. If at the first sign of trouble you panic and change them all you end up doing is going around in a constant circle back to the place you started, and never achieve anything. It’s about having faith in your judgement. Two things, a good number of people on this forum might have benefited from this course, and secondly the failure to see a project through should probably be the motto of this club.
  5. I have been following city since 1970. In just about every time we have had one of these finical resets it has involved a relegation. Given that Pearson has kept us up whilst dealing with all most certainly the second worst finical situation, I would say he is doing a reasonable job. And for those saying we need a relegation for a complete rebuild, have you actually seen how hard it is to get out of division 3 these days.
  6. Selling the young up and coming players is a secondary issue. Persuading Palmer, Wells, Kalas and maybe Bentley to seek employment elsewhere is the number one most important issue for the summer. If they go so does the need to sell the younger players.
  7. To my mind the summer hinges on persuading the top 3 or 4 earners to leave. Everything else will flow from this, or not. I also accept this will be the hardest part of the summer.
  8. As a club we have these resets every few years. Where some poor manager has to take on someone else’s mess. These resets are usually followed by a relegation and the manager gets the sack for not being able to make a silk purse out a sows ear. I would suggest this is one of the deeper messes we have been in for some time, both in terms of money, player ability (or the lack of it) and a lack general professionalism and intestinal fortitude within the club. Given the manager has got us to the end of this season still in the same division means he has done a whole lot better than most who have gone before him in similar situations in our history. Not only is he rebuilding the team, but the whole club structure, and probably most importantly, the poor mental attitude that has become so imbedded over a good number of years. All this with no money to spend. Despite the number of times it has been said, a good number just don’t get how bad the current situation. Rather than calling for the managers head after every loss have a look at those who cause the situation where we have to have these resets every few years. It can’t be beyond the wit of man to run a football club in a sustainable way ?
  9. I know it’s not very exciting, and the conspiracy theories are far more sexy, but is this more likely to be that Simpson has a job offer, inside or outside football, that takes him behind this summer, and the club have allowed him to leave to take it up ?
  10. Sorry that’s not correct. Nantucket Sleigh ride was the theme music to Weekend World. Very common that these get confused. A song about whaling.
  11. Just a question of time before the allegations of VAR being used to manipulate results.
  12. Maybe if players, managers, the press and fans had been able to accept a referees decision, right or wrong, none of this would have occurred. Football has brought this on itself.
  13. I think Mr Gould may prove to be a key figure. It may be that he may have to be a peace maker. Longer term it may be his view on Pearson that decides how long he is here, in that, if he gets what Pearson is doing and sees him as the best man for the job, he may need to be buffer between the two. What I can’t understand about the owners is that they overseen these finical resets before, which usually results in a relegation, but don’t seem to grasp the fact that we need to get away from this constant boom and bust cycle to make any sort of progress.
  14. Much rather listen to Nige than all the other, media trained within an inch of their lives, non answers to non questions. Anyone who has ever heard him being interviewed by a serious journalist, particularly away from day to day football matters, will know that he can be open, engaging and intelligent. These journalists are more than happy to criticize Nige’s professional ability when it suits them, but demonstrate their own lack of professionalism with dumb questions. Ask a silly question get the appropriate answer. Ask a serious question, you will get a serious answer. There was a comment above that he just states the obvious. He does, and it’s more than a very large number of managers do. It tells the fans that he sees what we see, which is very reassuring. Anyone who has a health disrespect for modern journalism gets my vote. It’s all about sales, and clicks. The daily dose of shock horror and outrage. Not to mention the agendas of the owners of which ever outlet. If a report is accurate, and balanced it will be purely accidental.
  15. I’ve been to Blackpool twice. The first and the last time. Makes Weston look upmarket.
  16. I missed it, put it down to an age thing !
  17. There is a very obvious one that has not been mentioned yet. Arsenal 0 Bristol City 1. First game back in the top flight. On the TV and a certain M MacDonald was going to tear us a new one. Sadly the game after was one of the low points.
  18. Bent’s standard will be well known to any club who might be interested, he is a senior long standing keeper. I can’t imagine, come the summer, him not playing for a period will not matter. Particularly if he plays the last handful of games. What we will have is an experienced ready made replacement at the start of next season, or if Max does come up to standard we know we will have to replace during the summer, rather than find that out 10 games into next season.
  19. Sorry if this point has already been made, not read the whole thread. Is this not more about our finances than anything else. Bents is probably our most saleable asset, and given other clubs are not ‘ biting our arm off’ for the other high earners we would like to move on, we will have to sell him in the summer. I.M.O. this is about getting Max experience as he is likely to be our number one next season. Which of the two is the better keeper is irrelevant, it’s about Max being of an acceptable standard. PS I know it’s part of football, but talking about ‘selling’ another human being just feels wrong.
  20. It doesn’t take much of a hard time to draw out those with a lack of maturity, or those not capable of a bit of critical thinking. (There are about 80 million in America at the moment). If not Pearson, then who ? Very sorry but Pep ain’t coming. Have a look at where the manager is who everybody wanted back in the summer. And doing it with more money and a better squad (on paper). If we do get rid of him what happens if the next guy can’t turn it around, the situation around money and therefore player’s ain’t going to change. At some point we have to stick, and build for the future. Unfortunately it ain’t going to happen over night. But people have been saying this for ages, but some just don’t have the maturity to cope with not winning every game 6 nil.
