  1. I’m not in anyway defending the interview by Tinnion, it was rotten, and like the Lansdown video, I’d have much preferred they had just come out and said the relationship had broken down etc.

I do however, think people need to consider the fact that his unsuccessful foray into management was 20 years ago.

It’s very possible (in fact very likely!) that he has learnt a thing or two in those 20 years, including from the likes of Nigel Pearson, and that he might do a decent job in this role.

And whether his actions are well founded or not, he probably does want Bristol City to be successful!!

  2. When will they learn?

Nothing they say would fully placate the fan base, but they would get a better response if they just came out and told the truth - no matter how much people disagree with it.

Because they were good footballers today you have to be a good footballer and an athlete. I would imagine that most 3rd tier sides would run rings around any team from the 60s/70s playing by modern rules.

Assuming they had enough fit first team players to field a team of course 😉

  4. Is it just horrendous luck?

Is it the pitches? Is it the training?

Does the high fitness, high intensity pressing system/game we play contribute? And does that style lend itself to such a small squad?

And finally, how on earth did teams in the 60s/70s, on those pitches, with their diets etc go through entire seasons using only 14 or 15 players?

This thread is going a bit OTT about Pearson.

Nigel is a strong & vocal advocate of players earning their next contract and letting them run down to end of season. So it’s a bit hypocritical for him to get antsy & call out the club for doing the same.

IMO Nigel should be managing up as well as down the club. If he could do that, this thread doesn’t exist.

I like him & what he’s done for the club, but part of me does think that in principle maybe the club are right to see where we are at the end of the season. Anything sooner than that would be savage.

Yes, I’m just as aware an anyone on here about the limitations & him not being backed and I too don’t have much faith in the clubs ability to source the next manager.

Shame it’s coming to this as I would personally stick but I won’t be losing too much sleep either.

I am very much a “Nigel in” advocate (haven’t always been) and that he should have a new contract now……. But some very good points made in this post to add some balance.

  6. Good for him. Well deserved. I always felt he had the ability, but had massive question marks over his mentality and I hope he can build on last season.

It’s an interesting one. You would think given the lack of ambition we’ve shown since the sale of Scott, that it might have put him off signing.

  7. I honestly thought that Pearson and the recruitment team would have a plan A, B, C and D in the event that Scott was sold and a player would be in the door a couple days later.

Lack of Goals and creativity was a worry anyway and without Scott, we are very predictable and easy to play against - especially at home.

Big couple of weeks ahead, but I’m not confident that Pearson will be well backed by the club.

It’s pretty obvious this was an unfortunate situation outside of the club’s control.

That said, I think a fiver off for those who have this season’s Hummel shirt would be a nice gesture.

And to make matters worse, my lad got SEMENYO printed on his!! ?

Appreciate it’s an unusual situation and understand why the club have done it.

Luton saying they won’t sell Cornick unless a replacement comes in, they currently aren’t looking like signing anyone so the move is in doubt

No inside info, but expect this one to be announced around 5pm.

Luton have a game tonight and will focus their coverage on that from 6pm onwards.

    Classic OTIB!

  10. Fair play to the club for sticking to their guns so long as we don’t have another Massengo situation on our hands in 6 months time.

Unlikely I know because he’s more sought after but it’s still a possibility if he gets injured or nobody meets our asking price again in the summer.

Im in the trust Gould and Pearson camp on this one.

  11. I’m surprised he’s not even making the bench. You’d think he would be a useful “calm head” to bring on in certain situations.

As for the not supporting Josh Low theory, I don’t know whether this is meant more in terms of how he played positionally but he was talking to him throughout and was straight over to him picking him up when he made a mistake.

Goals face dried up since Naismith injury. The other side of the World Cup and hopefully we’ll see our first choice back 3:

    Naismith, Atkinson & Kalas.

I know what he brings in an attacking sense but Id like to think we’re not that reliant on one defender to dictate our entire attacking prowess! We need to be far more versatile than that and need to know how to score without him. Teams had started to target him before his injury.
