  1. They probably didn't even have electricity in those days
  2. I remember in the 70s there was a South East Counties league for youth teams of league clubs around London
  3. While I was looking for stories on City I came across numerous interesting articles on football in general, one article from around 1912 was complaining how in the "modern game" there were too many goalless draws and that it was better in the old days of the 1880s and 1890s when things were less organised and there were more goals!
  4. Here's another article from 18 November 1906 describing our win over Sheffield Utd at Ashton Gate
  5. I think we were in the First Division at the time, this is an East Anglian local paper so they were more interested in Norwich , the East Anglian League seems to be for reserve teams in the area.
  6. I have managed to download this newspaper clip from February 20th 1909 previewing Norwich's big cup tie at Bristol City, this would have been in the run to the final against Man Utd. Norwich were in the South Eastern league at the time so it would have been a big upset to beat Bristol City. The article is headlined "Football" in the column at the top of the page just right of the photos. I note from the league tables that the Gas and Swindle both played in the Southern League at the time:
  7. The new QPR boss has a similar philosophy to Manning and wants to dominate possession so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. City have the advantage of a better squad and QPR struggle to score so hopefully we'll get the points. If we win we'll have won more games at Loftus Road than Rangers this year!
  8. I remember going to the away game on a special train. After leaving Manchester station on the way back the train was ambushed and we got a brick through the window which landed on our table.
  9. NP started with 5-3-2 throughout the club and only switched to the current formation part way through last season so it shouldn't be unfamiliar to our players, once Atkinson's fit we should have enough CBs although another addition would be preferable
  10. Despite not being at his best still provided the pass for our goal on Saturday. It's normal for young players to be inconsistent, Scott, Semenyo and Lloyd Kelly all had lean spells but ultimately bounced back.
  11. I'm willing to give anybody a chance. Sometimes the underwhelming appointments turn out to be the best ones, and the flash appointments turn out to be disasters!
  12. I remember when Benny was appointed, I think our first away game was Bradford and the coach driver got lost, of course Benny had no clue either. We did get there just in time and lost 5-0.
  13. That would make it a bit obvious though.
  14. Yes it got here early, near the VIP entrance.
  15. It will be very confusing for the Sheffield Wednesday fans who were asked by their owners to stump up £100 each to help pay a tax bill as he didn't have the money. I expect they'd like to do a swap.
  16. The board are responsible for the financial implications of transfers, any manager is going to spend money if it's offered
  17. Steve was put in a situation where he could be given stick whichever option he took, I'm sure he'd rather that Nige had picked someone without the baggage Simpson had
  18. If SL had blocked that NP would probably have walked out in week 1 so Steve didn't have much choice
  19. The team was expected to be doing better by this stage Players not prepared to their optimum in training and given too much time off in international breaks List of candidates being touted in media miles off reality Interviews being lead by JL and BT Accepted communication with fans should be better Social media platforms not as useful as they used to be for communicating with fans All efforts being made to get to Prem and then to stay there
  20. So he's said the list of candidates being spoken about in the media is nowhere near their list
  21. We could be looking for a foreign coach like QPR did in which case it could be any number of unknowns
  22. It was ok while Richard Gould was here but it's rather fallen apart since, they need a new CEO with media experience then they'd be ok
