I watched on TV and I must admit the atmosphere didn’t sound great from either set of supporters.

I appreciate tv sound can be deceiving though given microphone placement.

Which is why palace sound like the loudest team in Europe every time they play on Sky, because Sky have a very odd obsession with them and shove all the microphones bang in front of the 100 blokes that sing generic awful songs for 90 mins. In reality 99% of the people in that selhurst home crowd don’t open their mouths for the entirety and the atmosphere doesn’t actually exist.

Was good today but part of the reason is due to Sky keeping all microphones away from the s82 corner due to swearing in the past.

I can’t really comment on other stands as it’s hard to gauge sometimes, but it was definitely lively in the corner today.

I’d agree with that. I don’t think a manger has ever been given such leeway from our fan base as Nige has been given. Mostly because we all know what the challenges were. However after 18 months (I know it’s not 18 months yet but will be come the beginning of next season) there has to be improvements in the concerning areas. He won’t get the fall back of the squad not being good enough next season.

Why is there an assumption that next season the squad will be any better? Yes we will have the benefit of some of the deadweight being (hopefully) offloaded, but we might also lose Semenyo, Scott and Massengo to big money sales. That money is unlikely to be allowed to be reinvested as it will be instead used to help alleviate the financial mess we are currently in.

The 0649 from Boro has been cancelled - might be some gaps in the away end this afternoon.  Gutted for those who had planned the trip on that service.

The 7:20 looks like it departed so they’ll hopefully be fine, arrives half 1

We have under achieved and 37 points from 32 games reflects that. However, had we not conceded so many goals in the closing stages of matches our points would be significantly more and reflect the overall progress that NP has made. As NP said, himself, in the press conference,a number of the young players eg. Alex Scott, Antoine Semenyo and Massengo are worth significantly more now than they were 12 months ago.

What were you expecting this season, out of interest? I would’ve snapped your hand off for 21st, so the fact we sit 17th and comfortably away from relegation, in my eyes we are overachieving.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I seem to recall Steve Lansdown saying in the summer that top 6 was the aim, which was as much a pipe dream then as it is now, though it wouldn’t surprise me if Jon is still thinking along the same lines.

    1st October 2020 - 3 year extension (+12 month option) for Moore.

    2nd October 2020 - 3 year extension (+12 month option) for Vyner.

A glowing endorsement of Holden’s management. What a legacy. ?‍♂️

Christ, I assumed (and hoped) Moore was in his final year. What an absolute mess.

Hmm. Stonegate bought and refurbed the Market House in Glastonbury, which is now a big open warehouse-like space, where they don't serve bitter. They own the Ram in Claverton Street in Bath, which is similar.

According to their website their Bristol pubs include the White Hart in Bedminster Parade and the Victoria Park.  Never been in either. Can any Bristol drinkers give a review?

Two very different pubs, Victoria Park being more of a food gastropub, and the White Hart turning more into a club on weekend nights. Neither are anything like an open warehouse though.

  7. Good interview Nige.

For me the most pleasing aspect about today was the crowd, an excellent atmosphere helping big time to get the team over the line. It’s brilliant to see that this forum is entirely unrepresentative of the actual fanbase, as around 50% of the fans on this forum believe that the games should be played behind closed doors, yet as we saw today the attendance was certainly far above the 7.5k you would expect to see, if this forum was anything to go by. “I’m too scared to attend, and therefore the other 15,000 who want to go shouldn’t be allowed to attend either”. Thankfully those people are very much in the minority, and home advantage shone through today.

That would be too good for them.

I have a strong feeling that their lives in prison will be total hell when their fellow inmates know who they are.

I hope they're looking over their shoulders every single remaining day of their lives.

Depressingly, I highly doubt it. They will be protected in prison and released back into the public at the first available opportunity.

Case in point being Colin Pitchfork, raped and murdered 2 children, freed at the age of 60 a few months back to live out his last 20 odd years amongst the general public once again. He was sent back to prison 2 weeks ago for breaching the terms of his licence, with some members of the general public becoming increasingly concerned about his behaviour. Who’d have ******* thought it eh. The members of the parole board that freed him should be locked up themselves, absolutely sickens me.

I’m out the loop on this - so lots of clubs have boycotted the competition?! That is big news ... haven’t seen that reported anywhere

Yeah it’s been the case for about 5 years now, in fairness to the gas they’ve stuck at it, just 800 odd against Cheltenham this season including away fans. Compare that to their 2nd round game against Wycombe the year before B teams came in and their attendance was 3.2k for that one.

Looking over the scores from the other leagues tonight, I notice how few U21 sides remain in the EFL trophy with a fair way still to go in the competition. Villa’s kids have just followed suit. There are a lot of reasons I don’t want to go down, but the biggest has to be I’d hate to see us playing Brighton’s (or whoever’s) youngsters.

I really hope they ditch the U21’s soon, or scrap the competition outright. I really feel they’ve ruined a good thing. Am I just being a miserable bugger? What are people’s thoughts?

Considering almost all of the small clubs have boycotted the competition ever since the introduction of B teams and continue to do so, with many getting their lowest ever competitive attendances, you’re certainly not alone in thinking that.

    https://fanbanter.co.uk/clubs-see-lowest-ever-attendances-in-latest-round-of-efl-trophy-matches/

That link helps to show the attendances of the last few seasons, it wasn’t a well attended cup at the best of times but these days there’s just complete apathy across the board.

I remember a few seasons back Luton fielded their youngsters against a premier league u21 side, won the game, and were then fined for fielding their youngsters. Work that one out..

Can Nige (or whoever) get us back to early season competitiveness?

I seriously doubt it as the players have given up again. Maybe they’d pick up for a game or 3 just as they did when Johnson and Holden were both sacked, but it would only take a minor bit of misfortune for this pathetic group to completely down their tools yet again, which would be inevitable. Getting King and Williams back will be a help but that’s just wishful thinking.

It staggers me that a significant group of our professionals are unwilling to put in 100% on the pitch or even try to look bothered. They are again completely content with sleepwalking into league one, after being fortunate enough for it not happening last season. That combined with the most fragile mental state in the league is a recipe for complete disaster and we are already well on that path. It’s not a good squad by any means but it’s not bottom 3 material, yet I am now completely convinced that’s where we are headed.

Not saying SL has not made mistakes which are easy to criticise with hindsight, but believe they have been made with the honest intention of improving the club.

Steve didn’t think that hiring Dean Holden would improve the club, as I don’t think anyone with half a brain could have genuinely believed that. 20,000 fans overwhelmingly told him otherwise but he knew best, obviously.

His handling of this club these past few years has left it in a complete mess and if we don’t go down this season it will be next. Harry’s thread the other day summed it all up, complete and utter shambles.

Yes I know, that's where it doesn't quite work......:) but don't want to leave him out

Would be a complete mess and far worse than having Simpson or anyone else there. If wanting to fit him in the side then Kalas could play there having done so throughout his career, with Baker in the centre.

Surely that's obvious. Ashton Gate is open 1/2 a day every 2 weeks for football. So perhaps a full day every 2 weeks including the Rugby.

Try setting up another business with such a limited opening and try and keep prices low.

Remind me of the last time a pub in bedminster, or any pub for that matter, had 20k  (sometimes 40k) through the doors over the course of a week?

The club are ripping the fanbase off for crap pints, let’s not gloss over with some poor excuse about opening times. They also whack the price up every season, it used to be somewhat reasonable with a season ticket just a few seasons ago.

The Geordies are a great laugh. Wonderful hosts when we went up there in 2009. I'm not sure they would be quite as hospitable for some teams though.

Was the same when we last played there in 2017, sadly Sam Jacks closed though shortly after.

Leave a few unsold please. Then they'll be returned and those of us who live here can buy one on the day.

I've tried to "Create an account" with Bristol Sport and whether I enter my home or mobile phone number, am greeted with "Landline is not valid".

That’s quite odd but why not ring the ticket office when they open? You can still purchase tickets that way.

Just sit or stand where you should. Not difficult.

The whole point of that end for as long as it’s been there, and from the Atyeo and Eastend before it, has been that you should sit anywhere. Only now have the club decided to get funny about it. As someone who renewed a previously “unreserved” season ticket, and was given a random seat, or should I say “standing space”, there’s not a chance I won’t be standing with my mates tomorrow.

It wasn’t broke so don’t fix it.

  18. It's never good to lose, winning breeds winners, losing breeds losers.

It's a great time to try and restore confidence and rebuild some momentum, we should be able to beat lower league opposition with the likes of Reid and Burns on the field. I'd put Robinson into Fremans position, start Reid for Pack and get Wes upfront with Kodjia who needs as much experience as possible.

That's a hell of a lot of pace and I think Wes' confidence will be sky high, Bobby has had a good pre season and deserves a game, Robinson has one of the quickest footballing brains I've seen at his age, his incisive passing may give Kodjia ammunition to kick off his English goal scoring account.

I'd also love to see a BIG keeper signed ASAP, not knocking Frankie but yesterday wasn't the first time his lack of height has been exposed.

Would normally agree, but look at the last time we had any kind of success in the League Cup. It was under Sean O'Driscoll and despite comfortably beating Gills and a decent Palace side, it certainly didn't inspire any confidence in the league as we didn't win for the first 13.

  19. A confidence boosting win against Luton and this match can be submitted to the trash can of history.

We'll lose to Luton, as let's face it we always do in the League Cup, and this forum will go into complete meltdown. In all honesty I don't think losing that game would be the worst outcome, could do without the extra games at the moment with the thin state of the squad.
