  1. I'm confused as well as its not about recency bias (at least for me) In an earlier post on this thread you likened Offering James a 2 year deal to Nhaki's 2 year deal. I was worried about Nhaki's as a large part of his game is about pace. James' game is more about reading the game. I have always thought we look a better team with James in it. He would also be an experienced head in a relatively young midfield. if we can agree wages I would not object to a 2 year deal Williams we have seen an improvement each season he has been here (first obviously blighted by ridiculous injury problems) and he is coming into his peak years. adds a bite to our midfield. I would not object to renewing his either. Hypothetically if Manning wants to keep one and bring in his own midfielder I would probably pick James, though would not be upset if he kept Williams
  2. Some of them did surprise me though Dickie has been by far our best player this season and I do agree with them that our defensive players have been better than our attacking players. I prefer looking at the stats individually rather than their ratings per se. for what its worth this is what they say about how they calculate their ratings if you go down to Stats Definitions: https://www.fotmob.com/faq
  3. My work has an office in Ipswich they absolutely love him there. I still wish we'd have signed him the summer we went up as was immense for Chesterfield. Mckenna has been unreal for them amazed a team in the prem has not poached him yet. Interestingly on game on sky this season Sky said that Mark Ashton had been tracking McKenna for about 18 months before appointing him - this was when we appointed Holden!!
  4. Manager of the season echoing the above McKenna has done an absolutely unbelievable job and would deservedly win this award. Like you said Cifuentes deserves credit for turning around a poor teams. QPR if they have a good summer could be a dark horse for the playoffs next season under Cifuentes. Danny Rohl at Wednesday deserves an honorable mention as Wednesday looked dead and buried when he took over. Player of the season here are Fotmob's top 10 players this season, I was surprised Szmodics was not in there ( he is 19th!). Personally I would pick Summerville as Young player of the year and Sam Morsy at Ipswich for player of the year (Fotmob have him 12th) as player of the season. He has been so influential for them this season, scored some vital goals and drives them on a real leader on the pitch, has been Ipswich's 'Roy Keane' this season. Here are Bristol City's top 10 performers (Twine's rating includes his games for Hull) no real surprises whose top, though thought Knight might be higher!
  5. All games where the opposition took the game to us, had more of the ball than is which allowed us space in behind to counterattack.
  6. was going to say I want to see more adaptability from Manning, or at least better in game management - when plan A doesn't work it always seems like we have no plan B
  7. if that was the case their owners would be Beckham, Giggs, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Butt, Scholes, Cocu, Koeman, Bergkamp, Larson & Kuyt. I think their ownership team would beat their first team in a match!
  8. no one has ever disputed Tinnion has done a great job with the academy their are concerns over whether he is qualified to oversee the entire footballing operation of a championship team as he currently he is. the biggest test he has had so far in this role was the Pearson sacking and Manning appointment and it is fair to say this was not handled in the most professional way nor has the appointment really improved us as a team
  9. I am really struggling to understand this viewpoint that Manning is blocking the pathway. there are plenty of valid concerns about how things are going, without making ones up. Seb - can't blame this one on Manning, he was loaned out when Pearson was in charge Yeboah was in the squad due to injury issues within the squad at the start of the season. He did not look up to the pace of the Championship at that time. this is not a knock on the lad as he is 17! he needs to experience mans football. Hopefully he does well then and can get a loan into the football league next season IMO, then maybe at the ripe old age of 19 he might be read for the 1st team squad! Most players go out on loan to experience men's football before making it into our first team, the only exception has been Alex Scott who lets be honest is a generational talent. Conway went to Bath on loan, Semenyo - Newport & Sunderland, Bell - Grimsby, even Zak, Max and Cam have all had quite a few each before establishing themselves in the first team
  10. Nasty business surprised its not longer https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/breaking-qpr-ilias-chair-jailed-32196431
  11. They've just signed Ebou Adams on loan which might change things generally though Warne has played him a bit further forward this season, 3 goals, 5 assists not too shabby https://www.fotmob.com/players/881558/max-bird
  12. Thanks Ska, bit before my time can only go by the stories told
  13. The demise was all our own doing but its not like your club did not try and take advantage of it which has not been forgotten
  14. Keiran Maguire has reviewed the accounts some interesting stuff @Davefevs @Mr Popodopolous @ExiledAjax
  15. I was told the same by colleagues at work who support Ipswich. Lets be honest the best signing he has made was McKenna who has basically took this squad from mid table league 1 to the top of the Championship. Interestingly listening to the Sky commentary for the Ipswich vs Norwich game they mentioned on commentary that Ashton had been tracking McKenna for 18 months prior to appointing him at Ipswich, this would have been around about the Holden appointment!
  16. None of those websites are accurate. To be accurate they would have to be inside every clubs payroll. On top of the sheer impossibility of that there would be massive GDPR implications quite simply it would be illegal. the only indicator we have that has any merit is the companies accounts and these would not show in individual salaries Luton have one of the lowest wage budget in the league, their last set of accounts for the 21/22 season showed they spent £15m in wages (for reference we spent £20.8m) https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/06133975/filing-history

    TGH

He has saved the 5th most shots in the Champ so far this season and has the 3rd highest save to shot ratio https://fbref.com/en/comps/10/keepers/Championship-Stats
  18. I get what you are saying, perhaps he fact he's British gives him that extra push with the media. I do think how he has performed in his career to date would warrant a move to a middling premier league club such as Palace or West Ham. With regards to comparisons with Frank that's tough, undoubtedly Frank has done a wonderful job at Brentford and took them to the next level. However he went into a club with an upward trajectory which is fantastically run behind the scenes. Cooper pretty much turned Forest from a basket case to premier league singlehandedly.
  19. not at all. Did well at England Youth set ups, winning a world cup, got an unfancied Swansea side to the play offs twice (they have not been there since), then took Forest from relegation places to promotion in 2/3s of season then kept Forest up in their first season.
  20. Dont think it will be, think it will be the same formation. in a BP article in the week it was mentioned Manning was looking to loan Mehmeti and play him cam, i think knights just been dropped deeper and Mehmetis in that spot.
  21. Agree with all but bar the injuries, way too simplistic imo. You at the very least need to look where they have occured for the Cardiff match the following players were out; Benarous - training Naismith -training Williams -training James -training Wiles Richards - training Atkinson - match Tanner - match King - match Roberts -match Nhaki -match Vyner - match Of the 11 injuries 6 were from injured in a match. I think its unfair to put that on Nige and his team.
  22. Have thought the same. also wasn’t he at Yeovil with the Johnsons?
  23. We all have gone through promotions at work and that is a poor analogy for this situation. If you were looking for a work analogy it is you are you in the role and are you achieving your targets you are kept on in most competent companies you will keep the job even if you are on a temporary contract. With regards to future prospects, we are not in a downward spiral and he is showing evidence that he can take us to the next level. We are 1 point off the play-offs and have the 3rd best defence in the league. what there is no evidence of, is what you are arguing for that there is a defined process in picking a manager. I was consistent, its not my issue if you are (very poorly I might add) trying to twist what I said. I gave Johnson credit for developing Kelly and Reid who were at the club before Johnson, in the same way Semenyo and Scott were here before Pearson. they are the managers who developed them into established players at this level and above and generated a profit for us. Using your twisted logic Do you think Semenyo was worth 10million in 2020? Do you think Scott was worth £25m in 2020? Do you not think O’Leary, Vyner, Atkinson, Pring, Sykes, Bell, and Conway have improved under Nige’s tenure?
  24. Ultimately it comes down to whether you think he has earned the right to try and progress us further. I believe he has. Why do you think he has not? Johnson also spent over 50 million and signed 50+ players, he also inherited a better squad including Flint Bryan and Kodjia which allowed his funding. Not really a valid comparison. Deserves credit for Webster, Reid, Kelly and Brownhill thats it its not meaningless it shows based on past performance theres an 80% likelihood the next appoint will be the wrong one You are correct 99%of manager end by being sacked due to not meeting current targets, IMO you have to judge what they did threw their reign. GJ and Cotterill were brought in to get us in the Champ they did. Wilson and Lee johnson were brought in to get us promoted they did not. Nige was brought in to steady the ship and keep us in the Champ whilst reducing costs, he’s done that . We are this season on the whole showing improvement in terms of league position and performance it is not a downward trajectory. If we were I could understand your logic
  25. How else are we to determine other than past performance? His past performance at Bristol City is he has stabilized the club in the championship, whilst operating under an ever restrictive budget. when this happens usually we get relegated (Osman/ Jordan & McInnes/ SO'D). I would also argue no manager has had to rely on youth as much since Terry Cooper and has developed players which has raised us £35 million, massively helping with our FFP. Not including the development and improvements in O'Leary, Vyner, Pring, Bell Conway from the Academy alone. Another past performance that we need to consider when deciding to keep or sack Nige is SL's track record in appointing managers. Since Lansdown became majority shareholder in the late 90's we have had 11 permanent managers (10 not including Nige)- Pulis, Wlson, Tinnion, Gary Johnson, Coppell, Millen, McInnes, o'driscoll, Cotterill, Lee Johnson, Holden. Of that list only Gary J & Cotterill can be considered successful appointments. Wilson & Lee Johnson had some good times but in comparison to the resources they had given to them & the objectives they had have to be considered failures. Excluding Nige, that's an 20% success rate.
