  1. Congratulations to Fishponds Fishing Tackle.
  2. Okay- you may have just snuck one of those names past me
  3. Electric Center will be just fine thank you You can knock our shirt sponsor draw all you want, it's a great way to give a chance to local businesses involved, and probably raises more money than we would attract as a 4th division team.
  4. I'm afraid sick chants are not exclusive to any one particular set of supporters. I remember the Aberfan chant well, and even joined in with it on occasion, until I found out what it was all about .I was born in 1964 and have nor had any recollection the disater so blindly joined in with mates, who also joined in, in fact it was one of my mates mothers who put us right, when she heard about the vile chant. I believe United and Liverpool supporters still taunt each other with sick chants, and probably will for years to come. It wasn't all that long ago City fans mocked the death of Micky Barratt, and Rovers fans did the same about your chairman (apologies, but his name escapes me at the moment) I do think things are changing for the better, and I know I can post the following without any worry or fear of malicious comments. On Saturday before our game against Crawley I had my normal pre match pint(s) in the Civil Service club, surrounded by friends who I see at every home game. One of them was John, normally there with his son Paul, both good friends of mine through AEK Boco & Rovers. He explained that Paul was on a charity bike ride, and would be joining us later. Sadly, tragically, Paul collapsed and died on the ride, he was just 42 years old. John is broken hearted, as are the mother, brothers and children he left behind. Paul was one of the good guys, upbeat, always positive and Rovers through & through. Pre match pints at Rovers, and watching kids matches at Boco will never be quite the same again, but I suppose the best we can ever hope for, is that we make a positive contribution during our short time on earth, and Paul certainly did that.
  5. Yes , good shout. I just think football forums- which are only supposed to be a bit of fun after all- can be a bit lame when everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet. Good luck for the rest of the season (obviously that last bit is a lie)
  6. Bollocks. As I aid previously, there is a thread on here lauding a Radio Bristol presenter for slipping a 'Mind the gap' reference in. Any**** that gets remotely upset at trivial comments over football is a bit of a *****. Some Rovers fans are *****s, some City fans are *****s , and some say 'amusing' things, that aren't really all that amusing.
  7. I think Clarke's comments were - at best- ill advised. Odd how there is one thread lauding a local radio presenter for a 'mind the gap' comment, yet others get a little precious when a joke is made about non existent displays on an electronic scoreboard! I do despair of football fans at times, some really do need to grow a pair.
  8. I didn't hear the comment, but I can assure you when Keith said it, it would have been said flippantly and you are reading far too much into what he said. He may even have meant the comment to be heard by his wife, who is an avid a City fan as Keith is a Rovers one.
  9. It must be at the very least 2 years since City scores were shown on the scoreboard , and Keith Brookman is the matchday programme editor not the stadium manager. Still, lets not let the facts ruin it
  10. I don't think we will go up, I suspect we will get beat in the play offs, but I have enjoyed this season , as I did last season as well. I think the important thing about watching your team, is that you do, at times, get some sense of enjoyment from it all. Rovers have alays been a big part of my life, and if I'm honest there were times when it all meant far too much to me. As much as I loved beating you in 1990, the build up to it all was unbearable, and I could think of little else. Then there was that run of derby games where you just could not seem to beat us, it should have been great for me, but all it led to was me dreading each time we played you thinking 'they are bound to win eventually'. It was almost a relief when Donowa scored and got it over and done with. Then there was the whole 'never in the bottom division' thing- which actually was never true, as the third division south was the bottom division for years, and we were in it for nearly it's entire existence! Also the 'only ever been one division between us' was another monkey off our back. Of course I never wanted Rovers to go into the conference, but now it's happened (massively helped by the fact we got back straight away) I can, hand on heart say I'm glad it happened. After the dodgy start, winning games was fun again, and- believe it or not- the fact that you were absolutely running away with it in the 3rd division, meant that I stopped worrying about your results, something I had been far too obsessed with in previous years. Don't get me wrong, an ideal weekend for me would be us winning and you losing, but a reverse of that no longer ruins my weekend, and IF we do ever start playing you again on a regular basis, I think I may be able to enjoy it all a little more than before. Anyway, I've just realised Saturdays like today without football are just bollocks, it just leads to me drinking several pints at home and posting sentimental bollocks like this.
  11. Accrington have beaten us on the last 6 occasions we have played each other, I'm entitled to get a little bit excited.
  12. Yes. If it is a Jordanian bank next year, I assume it will have been done in the best financial interests of Rovers, but while we were still where we were with Higgs, then I think the raffle was a great idea, and if they continued to do it, I would be delighted.
  13. Re the shirt raffle (I was trying to quote Bristol Rob and Lenred, but the quote thing isn't working properly for me atm) . Rovers have gone ahead with this, as tickets had already been sold ( I have bought one last season, and have again this time), I would imagine it won't go ahead next time- although that is purely conjecture on my part. You can take the piss out of the raffle all you want- and I'm sure you will continue to do so- but I think I'm right in saying it raised around £70k last year- which is decent for a club in our current circumstances- and it also gives a great chance for local businesses to be involved. I have heard Rovers fans slag off the draw as tinpot, and obviously City fans have done the same, I can put my hand on my heart and say- as long as the financial deal for the club is a good one, then I would much rather see Rovers sponsored by a local business with an interest in the club, rather than by a larger company trying to 'buy into' football.
  14. On the grounds that you are only as good as your last result (or in this case attendance) I think this means we win- woohoo!
  15. Your original post said less than 3,000, and I knew it was 3000+ ! So , yeah I was being slightly pedantic I too am undecided if things are better or worse now!
  16. Well, that isn't true, although it was a very low crowd. The context of that though, was that football really was in the doldrums at that time- I seem to remember City even slipping as 'low' as 6000. Shite crowd as it was, it wasn't unusual for the time, and when the game was played , I seem to remember it not being 100% that we were leaving.
  17. That's pretty much how I remember things back then. One thing I can't remember is what capacity was at Ashton back then,e.g. I remember there being 26,000 at Eastville for a 0-0 against you on Good Friday in the mid 70's, and I would have been at the Ashton game as well, but would there have been much more than 26,000 there? I'm sure there is a website where you could look it up, but I can't find one. I can't ever remember us getting better crowds on a regular basis, in fact I'm not sure I can ever remember us getting a better crowd as a one off (as in getter a bigger gate than your previous home game if you see what I mean). I have said it before here, but I do think both teams are very well supported for their respective positions , and both teams are capable of taking a large travelling support on certain occasions.
  18. Masturbating, Rovers take a lead knowing how to spell 'wanking' properly. Cue easy tap ins for City fans to post 'well you would know how to spell that wouldn't you' Anyway, may I - for once-take a second to gloat. For nearly 30 years I have bet Rovers to win 2-0 and City to lose 2-0 in a 'double'. When I began this bet, I thought to myself 'well that's bound to happen a couple of times a season' After a couple of years of betting it, Rovers beat Middlesbrough 2-0 at Twerton and City were losing 2-0 at Oldham in injury time, when Rob Newman got a late consolation and ****** up my bet. A few years back, you lost 2-0 on a Saturday, and our game against Charlton was played on the Monday, you did your bit by losing 2-0, and Rovers held on to a 2-0 lead until the 6h minute of injury time, when Charlton scored. But today- FINALLY- the 2-0 double has paid off, and I am £150 richer I would like to say thank you to my family and friends, and all those who have stood by me during this trying period. The relegations, the tears, the constantly getting locked out of away grounds has all been worth it, just to finally get one over on the bastard bookies. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. The undying pessimist within me makes me think that with all the hype of today, Morecambe are a very good bet at 9/2 for tomorrow.
  20. I have visions of a press conference with some sort of fake sheik talking with an implausible middle eastern accent of his plans for Rovers, and then Scooby Doo style, Darryl running up and ripping of the disguise exclaiming 'Nick! It was you all along' followed by NH mumbling 'and I would've gotten away with it if it wasn't for you pesky kids!'
  21. I seem to remember some 'serious investors' coming into City a few years ago, guaranteeing top flight football, a major trophy and European football within a certain time frame- I won't be holding my breath.
  22. Jordanian- does this mean we are being taken over by a bunch of Katie Price lookalikes?
  23. Those fixtures became meaningless some while ago, I certainly don't look forward to them any more!
