  1. How odd. I was just thinking that Alan Dicks and John Sillett could probably do a better job than the current shower even in their 80s, so I looked him up and unwittingly stumbled across the sad news. I think John should be credited for even more of our success in the 70s than Alan TBH, though there can be no denying how much they achieved with us. RIP John, I will forever be grateful for what you did whilst you were with the City.
  2. We were over run on possession 65/36. Where our extra 1% came from, I'm not sure. Then look at the ratio of shots. We were only in the game on rare ocassions and again seemed to have no clue as to what to do when we we're in possession. As soon as we got the ball, our passing was so poor, that we gave it back again. We were losing all the 50/50 challenges and were second to any loose ball 9 times out of 10. It looks like a team thinking that their week's work was done on Wednesday night. Either that or it was just too cold for the poor souls to play football and they just wanted to get back into the warm. I'm sure City Ladies would have put up much more of a fight TBH.
  3. Caulker was class, I admit but he had his demons long before they were ever exposed or admitted to. When he played for us, I was convinced that he had the potential to captain England one day. Whether a comforting hand would have been enough, I'm not sure, but his parent club had seen his potential and and would probably not have been willing to let him go.
  4. Nah, he offered to to come and they've already turned him down. He does have form for headbutting though.
  5. If Joey gets banged up, they already have a sortlist for the position and it sounds like a toss up between Pochettino and Solskjaer to fill the vacancy, now that Steven Gerrard is out of the frame. In reality of course, they won't be able to afford any more than the bloke managing the hotdog stand.
  6. About 15 minutes to get through the queues for the scanners in the Ashton Road entrance last night and as we got to them, they started waving us all through without scanning us. I thought that they were going to have to delay the KO by 15 minutes as the players were on the pitch as we got into our seats. Definitely a shambolic affair that had clearly been given little thought by those in charge.
  7. Joey will be in the big house before Christmas if there is any justice in this country. He is a serial offender who needs a bit of time inside to teach him to behave himself otherwise he will just keep offending.
  8. Wingers have been a dying breed for a long time. I've always thought that COD could offer something more as a wingback. His pace alone is something that would enable him to fulfil that roll very well, though of course, he needs to work on those defensive skills. Looked very decent in that role tonight in my View.
  9. COD, Benarous and Scott earned a start. Chris Martin might as well go back to Coldplay as he is past it - I would stick Semenyo in there, personally, who would give us more pace, strength and effort up top even though his goal scoring record isn't so great. If Baker is fit, it would be a toss up between him and Atkinson. A big shout out to Andi Weimann, who again gave 100%. A bit of an unsung hero, in my view. Nobody else seems to give us that week in and week out. Even though he scored tonight, I'm still not sure that Bakinson is giving 100%, but HNM certainly seems to.
  10. Just goes to show that we can produce an atmosphere if the players give us something to sing and shout about. BTW, the official attendance may have been 17k but I doubt there were more than about 14 k actually in the ground. first time I've lost my voice during a football match for ages though in the last 15 minutes I haven't sung and shouted so much for a long time. Ole, ole, ole, ole (we do need to have some better songs BTW)
  11. Sorry I don't have time to read the whole thread, but this is the first time I've lost my voice in a long time. The atmosphere in the last 15 mins was tremendous and I've got lost my voice from singing so much. we were definitely second best for the first half an hour, then produced an excellent spell for 15 mins. Under the cosh a bit in the 2nd half though, but we did have our moments. Scott was amazing in a position that I would not have expected him to have excelled in and Benarus had a decent game too. I've always felt that COD would make a decent wingback as pure wingers don't seem to offer enough from a consistency perspective. He had a very good game in my view. Chris Martin is just too old and too slow though. Even though his goal scoring isn't so great, I do think the extra height, pace, strength and effort Antoine brings would be more suited to that position. Just revelling now from a home victory and a belief that we might have something going now to give us an opportunity to push up the table. I do hope we can do something in the January window to help turn us into a team that can push for the playoffs, though there are a few points to make up. First game in a long time that I can honestly say I really enjoyed.
  12. I wouldn't bet on a home win having completely forgotten what it feels like. How many games and how long is it now since we last saw one? I've run out of fingers and toes to count, I think. We showed a few positive signs against Blackburn though, so hopefully we can build on that tonight and get a result. If we lose again we may as well put out the girls team for the next match.
  13. First game I'm going to miss today in a long time, but if the players can't be bothered to get off their arses, than I can't either especially with the weather getting gloomier, COVID spreading faster, no social distancing (other than on the grass), nobody wearing masks and completely disorganised chaos on the pitch. TBH, I'm not expecting to see anything different to the last 10 home games and I'm sure Blackburn will take advantage of that If any of you can be bothered to go, can someone take a deckchair for the opposition goalkeeper.
  14. Yeah, and look how that ended
  15. Starting with our back four.
  16. Laura Ashley possibly. Already designing next seasons home kit.
  17. Why the hell would we want to announce the appointment of a poet to manage the team in in Nigel's absence? p.s. I doubt that the Bard could do any worse.
  18. Can't even be bothered to go to the next game after watching that. 3 season cards going to waste. Can't believe that we have been played off the park and beaten 3-1 over 45 minutes by a 10 man Coventry. It's been truly awful all season, but that's the final nail in the coffin for me (and a lot of you, I guess). Enough is enough. I can't stand any more of this.
  19. What difference would 2 weeks in a field make? It doesn't look like they've actually trained anywhere this season.
  20. I thought NP was going to make a difference to this poorly performing team and he certainly has. No tactics, no motivation or commitment, no fight, no spirit and no clue as to what to do next. His substitutions have been leaving me scratching my head too. Not sure that a lot of the players want to play for him or are fully behind his tactics TBH. What is going on in training, because I can't see any sign that there has been any for the last 8 months. Looks like a man happy to have nabbed himself a 3 year contract and either trying to get himself sacked without committing gross misconduct or looking to rebuild from League One. I hate to imagine how much we are paying him to produce this dog shite week after week. I was happy to give him some time, but it looks like 8.5 months into the job he just hasn't got a clue.
  21. It was getting from bad to worse, but to say that performance was an embarassment is an understatement. We are definitely in a relegation scrap now and we've just been thrashed by a team I thought were as bad as we were. Substitutions were way to late, the wrong substitutions and we didn't even change our tactics to try to get back into the game at 0-1, 0-2 or 0-3 down. Again, just 1 feeble shot on target and again, we didn't even look like scoring. We cant even rely on form away from home now either. We have a team and with no tactics, no pace, no fight and no passion and I don't see much sign of any fight or passiin from the manager either. We are really going to have to do something in the January window to stay in this division, let alone compete in it.
  22. Most of the time it's not passing, it's hoofing the ball up the pitch to Martin & Wells, neither of which look like they even want to win it most of the time and then the ball comes back again. More like what you expect to see in L1 to be honest. It worked against Barnsley, who were quite poor, but it won't work against most of the teams in this league unless you have a 6ft 3 inch plus striker who is prepared to push defenders around a bit.
