Not sure this will be a particularly unanimous opinion but I'm glad this is our next game. I was frustrated as anyone on Saturday afternoon (no less because it was only the second away day I've got to this season - and the second defeat!), but I was actually surprised at the level of the backlash on here. I've been hyper-critical of the ownership since the Pearson debacle of October, so I am feeling a little vindicated. And I stand by the view that we don't achieve promotion to the top tier with them in control.

But. I blame little to none of our current sorry state on Manning. He's not got us playing well enough, but I think that's in no small part linked to a clash between the personnel we have (a squad I like by the way) and how he wants to play. So he will need windows and time. Not his fault, another Lansdown error. Seeing a vote 60% in favour of Manning out shook me a little and kind of inspired me to write this post.

He is here, and I don't think we want to be a three-manager-a-season kind of club. We also don't want to be pissing money away on paying up contracts. And, I do think he knows his stuff. There's a good football brain in there. Saturday is a great opportunity to do our Severnside rivals and get some feel-good back amongst the club. We have nothing to play for this season, but a derby always matters. I'm excited to get to AG nice and early, hopefully be part of a loud, hostile atmosphere, and be seeing some Manning fist pumps at 14:30. UTC.

First and foremost Manning doesn't seem to be able to adapt. If Plan A goes well, we look decent if we get sussed out which seems to be happening more often than not then Manning looks like a rabbit in the headlights. I think we will be ok in that we won't get relegated but that is hardly an aspiration is it? I keep hearing and reading that once the summer has come and gone we will be looking better and to be within a top 6 finish. I just can't see it myself.

I'm one of 8 of us coming up from Devon on the train for the Cardiff game and booked it all a few weeks ago. Got a crate of Natch and will be on the first can by the time the train leaves at 8:28am.

Most of us a travelling in hope rather than expectation. I've been having nightmares about Fam scoring the winner and tapping his head in front of the South Stand.

    I didn’t.

Hope we never do these silly ‘one off’ kits again.

    We always lose.

    😂

Didn't we draw v Fulham in last game before COVID? The kit that was made out of several old kits or did I imagine it?

In any case, it was a very tin pot thing to do on Saturday.

Talking about not have the time to work on it again.

How often do they actually train? Anyone would think he’s managing a part time team the way he talks about training sometimes.

He's got all week this week so no excuses after the next game.

  4. I was somewhat surprised that the Lineo (i.e. because he was inept) saw Smallbone get a touch on the ball putting it through to Mehmeti for our first goal. Admittedly the Lineo was very close but sometimes being so close to it that could have been missed. I was waiting for the offside flag.

  5. Been planning this trip for ages to tie in with a family birthday.

7 of us coming up from Devon on the Train.

We were expecting an early kick off request and so left it as late as we could also bearing in mind possible / probable Train Strikes.

The A&S Rozzers decide to make the request less than 3 weeks before the match day. Do they actually give any thought to anything?

Please, please tell me there aren't any ridiculous Marches in the City Centre that they are trying to avoid. I will proper lose my sh!t if it has anything to do with this.

Had to change all of the tickets and of course there was a fee to do so on each ticket.

Agree with you, Graham C, I remember being in a crowd of just 16,000 v Norwich when we went 3-0 up in the first 15 minutes and then their keeper Kevin Keelan picked up a nasty hand injury. It was in the days of only one sub and that was never a keeper so he remained in goal saving shots mainly with his legs and feet. But he kept it at 3-0.

Also recall only 18,000 v Middlesbrough for a Tuesday night game.

The first season prior to the 38,000 v Liverpool last match we had an average gate of 24,000 so with that bumper crowd it would've taken the average to 25,000. But like you said, it was mainly the big guns we got over 30,000 for. Most crowds that first season against the other slightly less attractive sides ranged between 20,000 to 28,000. That was the best season out of the four in the top flight crowd wise. I believe the final season our average gate was something like 17,000 to 19,000.

As you say any of the WBA games would not have attracted a crowd of 37,000. The only season that was possible was 1976-77 as the following season the capacity was reduced to 32,000.

The only time I recall a bumper crowd v WBA in the top flight at home was Boxing Day in either 77 or 78 when City won 3-1. I think Hunter made a mistake to put the Baggies one up but we thundered back and I think Hunter got one of our three.

So 29,914 isn't bumper enough then?

I remember being in the enclosure for a different game where I think WBA won 2-0, Cunningham looked like he was from a different planet, the planet Football.

He moved like silk, every touch was measured perfectly and on at least 3 occasions even our fans in the enclosure would give a ripple of applause at a touch or a piece of control.

Injuries robbed us of one the truly great players I think.

The game I reference in 1979, I think he left WBA to go to Real Madrid that summer.

Without looking this up I would be absolutely amazed if the crowd was anything like that.

Aside from the games at the end of the first season in the top flight (Man U, Liverpool, Leeds) & a couple of memorable cup games already mentioned we usually struggled to get much over 20,000.

Someone can probably look this up but I would be astonished if we had 37000 for this.

I can definitely recall crowds of 14,000 & 15,000 for top flight games.

I had to check this because I had only just turned 10 years old. The official attendance was: 29,914. The date was 17/4/79.

Kevin Mabbutt scored: City 1 WBA 0

  9. I remember beating West Brom 1:0 when they were one of the favourites to win the old First Division. We were really struggling. Shock.

They had Cunnigham, Regis and Batson (known as the 3 Degrees at that time) I can't remember the exact season. I was in the open end with my old man. I think the attendance was about 37,000. Absolutely bonkers.

  10. Neil Warnock (insert name of choice) is a horses ass, he's the meanest he sucks a horse's penis, Neil Warnock is a horses ass. He looks like a horses ass, he smell like a horse as ass. Neil Warnock is a horses ass.

I've never seen so many people moan as I have since manning took charge.  Some of the flack he has took is a joke. New to this standard and club it would always take a bit of time.  We have put good performances in the cup and if we can replicate that in the league we will do well.  Watford away was outstanding and today was also pretty spot on from the small part i watched ( I was working today)

I really think that people are giving him the flack for decisions that are beyond his control (NP sacking).

We are safe this season, so just sit back, shut the fck up and lets see what happens in August.

    EDIT

Oh and if you want to slag me off for daring to see things different, go ahead. I could not give a shit.

If watching City really pisses you off that much, you can always go and watch the sags. You wont be missed.

If you went down the back staircase in the Carlton club, there was that little bar on the other side, what a dive that was

Got pretty rough sometimes but I loved it. It was the default place for any Family knees up.

Sums up my family to be honest!
