  1. The away kits I have seen that Stoke had in this period were all white shirts and all had the Stoke badge on the chest. The yellow and blue kit Bristol City wore that day didn't have a badge and neither did the one I seen Bristol City wear in that charity match at Hartcliffe in the winter of 73-74. I fancy they were effectively an early Bristol City third shirt/kit but weren't embellished with a badge because they would rarely be worn.
  2. As far as I can ascertain Stoke's change kit between 1971-76 was a white top with black shorts. Changed in 76-77 to a white top with a diagonal red and black stripe, first used in a league match v Bristol City, our first home game back in the top flight (Cheesley injury).
  3. As regards borrowing that kit from Stoke if you read my post earlier on here you will see that I watched them play in that same kit in the same season at Hartcliffe. Unless they took it home to wash for Stoke before returning it and it had an extra outing. Although somewhat doubt it. Plus there's no Stoke badge on the kit, surely there would've been had it been their second kit.
  4. I recall seeing City wearing that kit in 73-74 in a charity match on Hartcliffe School playing fields v Teyfant United. A young boy (about the same age I was at the time) lost his life in Teyfant School when the strong winds blew the roof off. Iirc City won 2-0 and Alan Dicks played for City.
  5. Bill Athey the ex Yorkshire and Gloucestershire batsman (batter in modern parlance) was born in Middlesbrough. That was in the days when only Yorkshire born players could represent the county and there were stories of cricket loving fathers from the white rose county making sure their heavily pregnant wives were in Yorkshire at the time of delivery, sometimes even flying them home early from holidays abroad (and abroad in this context means overseas not over the Pennines).
  6. I remember at Twerton Park when the Gas were playing there very early nineties with Devon White up front someone used the F word near the Rovers dugout. Gerry Francis went apoplectic and used his influence to have the miscreant banned for life. I'm assuming the F word is 'Football' ?
  7. Makes a bit of difference not playing the promoted sides in the first few fixtures as we have had to do most seasons.
  8. Any chance of us hijacking the deal now we have the Scott money?
  9. That's about the only club whose last FA Cup Final appearance was longer ago than ours!
  10. Booked two places in The Heineken Lounge for the Leeds game in Feb for me and my partner. Cost £204. Buffet style. Hopefully Bielsa won't be there as a guest because if I see him crouching down I won't be touching any of the food.
  11. Apparently the injury to Scott is genuine. Someone told him there's a 160 page thread about him and the poor lad unfortunately read it. Now suffering from PTSD.
  12. Apparently that is the height of a traditional London double decker bus. Modern London double decker buses are 20 cms taller. Hopefully Bournemouth when they're forming their stack of £20 notes make the mistake of building it 32.25 (modern) London double decker buses high which means we will obtain an extra 6.45m high stack of £20 notes. I don't mind if this post is deleted by the mods so as not to alert Bournemouth about this potential error. Obviously if West Ham buy him they will know all too well the sizes of traditional and modern London double decker buses.
  13. By my reckoning that still isn't quite enough to get a seat at the table in the Alex Scott talks.
  14. If I remember a bit more correctly than my last post, it was in one of those 3-1 defeats that Clive Thomas was the referee and after City went close to scoring he was caught on camera expressing exasperation at how close it had been. It was pointed out in the letters section on Brian Moore's the Big Match as the person who composed the letter wondered if that meant Thomas had shown bias towards Bristol City. But Thomas answered that he enjoyed watching the football he refs like anyone in the crowd and just reacted to a very close effort in the same way as had he been a neutral spectator in the crowd.
  15. I was at the game too. City lost 3-1. Forest were super quick on the counter one touch football. Iirc City won something like 17 corners in that match.
  16. I'm surprised Johnson experienced altitude problems as he's a lot closer to ground level than most.
  17. You make some excellent points and one of the reasons I originally posted my views in a somewhat provocative manner was to stimulate debate and you have supplied a good argument. Of course in my 53 years of attending Ashton Gate I have seen City in some kits that I simply haven't liked and worn a badge with 1897 displayed when 1894 was the foundation date (although 1887 if one follows the Bedminster/Southville line back) and I frequently argued the toss about it on here. Thankfully, that has been rectified by the much maligned Jon Lansdown. So by my own admission I haven't always practiced what I preach about putting up with whatever is churned out for us.
  18. This, if true, embellishes what was rumoured happened at a possible meeting the other day. It seems like West Ham won't be his destination. Furthermore, Hammers fans seem to accept this now and are far more preoccupied with whether they should buy Harry Maguire. It thus seems to be between Bournemouth and Wolves now. The two clubs who have submitted rejected offers. But I wouldn't be at all surprised if an Italian or German top flight team join the bidders. We have to remember that England youth representative matches are watched over Europe and Scott's performances and experience in men's football are bound to have got a few clubs on the continent interested.
  19. I'm glad it was Davefevs who broke through the 100 mark. His posts are always so informative and at times fun. He contributes so much to the site and had a fly by night/glory hunter achieved it who hardly posts at all it would've seemed so unfair and I would've demanded a re-count. As it is our Davefevs can justifiably raise his bat and milk the applause.
  20. I never said I wanted those days. If anything I am making the point that today is far better so that's why I don't understand the complaints! I still play football two to three times a week and I can assure you that today's shirts are much better than the heavy cotton shirts (via Toffs) that catch the rain and make one sweat buckets. I apologise if my original post led anyone to think that I wished us to go back to that type of kit and how it was acquired. No way. My point was I got behind the team even when the kit was so basic and I get behind them now when kits are far more stylish (and more comfortable to wear).
  21. I think you'll find that football in 1970 has changed little compared to football today. Still 22 players on the pitch kicking the same size football towards the same size goal with both teams wearing different colours to differentiate themselves officiated by a person in the middle assisted by two running either line. I fail to perceive what's rose tinted about my experience of watching football back then to watching football today. Basically, the colour and style of kit Bristol City wear to differentiate themselves from their opponents I got 100% behind back then as I do today. I had the Bristol City 1970 kit back then as I have the Bristol City shirt of 2023 today and was/am equally proud to wear both. So where the heck does having a rose tinted experience come into this? I experienced and experience the same thing now as I did then and find it condescending that you should belittle my experience.
  22. I'm in agreement with you, Davefevs. It keeps being mentioned that we have recruited those players on the back of the Semenyo money, but I believe it's a combination of that and the anticipated Scott money. If we recruit further it will be one or two additions at most.
