Apparently that area around Castle Park was the heartbeat of Bristol at the time.
Yeah, it was. This video doesn't show much of the area before WW2, most of the early stuff is High Street/Wine Street, but you can get some glimpses of it. Seeing it develop in the 50s, 60s and 70s is fascinating.

Saw E1 & it was a bit too dark for me. I was expecting a comedy. Never mind.
Back to repeats of Teachers, Skins & Why Don't You for me . . .
Yeah, definitely no darkness in Skins.....

What an astonishing photo. I like having a big green space in the middle of the city, but at the same time we lost a hell of a lot of history in the war.

Off on a tangent I am not sure if you are watching the current BBC1 programme called "Showtrial" this is set in Bristol too.
Lot's of filming around the Create centre and park etc
Not heard of it, but I'll try and remember to seek it out on iPlayer. I'm a sucker for anything filmed/set in Bristol.

I think Merchant has done very well to avoid coming down on one side of Bristolian politics. I can't remember character names, but he has one guy who is your stereotypical right wing Daily Mail type. And also has a woman who is a stereotypical leftie. And both are utterly ridiculous while also being totally believable.
It's skilfully done when he managed to make "throw Colston in the river" and "throwing him in was vandalism" both equally ridiculous while not coming across as an insufferable centrist.

Seconded, it's a great show.
I find I miss a lot of the dialogue though as I'm too busy trying to spot locations I recognise!

I don't think you fix discrimination against one group by discriminating against another.
If we are all supposed to be equal, then some should not be more equal than others and where there is a choice for any sort of role or position it should be based on the persons suitability for that role with no other caveats.
And yet here you are, posting in a thread that's full of baseless speculation that Stelling's replacement will only be picked based on box ticking.
Rather than say you hope the replacement is the best person for the job, you just had a bizarre rant about "the woke brigade".

I don't like it when the most suitable candidate for any position is discriminated against because they do not belong to a particular cultural, ethnic or gender group.
As nobody has yet been announced for the Soccer Saturday job, what has that got to do with this thread?

Seems you get comments when you don't say anything.
Guess what people have different opinions. It is OK to disagree, oh but I forget the pro-discrimination brigade not only want to tell us what to say but also what to think. And of course they are ALWAYS right.

You know I wrote a comment here only to delete because of the reaction I would surely get from the woke brigade.
Amazing how easy free speech can be discouraged
I was going to write a reply to your post. But I realised the reaction I would get from the pro-discrimination brigade.
Why am I not allowed free speech?

"And I'm hearing there's been a goal at Old Trafford. Who's it gone to, Bungle?"
You are a disgrace.
Floella presented Playschool on the BBC.
Bungle was in Rainbow on ITV.
70s/80s TV is a very serious topic.

This is it. If a woman or person or colour gets the job then - whoever they are and however capable they are - you just know the easily offended brigade will be up in arms and bleating about it and will immediately decide they could not possibly be the best person for the job. But if the producer’s best mate gets it then - as long as they have a penis and white skin - they’ll immediately assume that person got it on merit.
Yep.
They'll always say things like "the BEST person for the job should get it".
But if a non-white person, gay person or a woman (or worst of all, all 3) gets a job, they cry and moan about "PC" and make snide "oh, I wonder why they got the job".

The soft lot are the ones upset at just the idea he might be replaced by somebody who isn't a white man.

I mean we all know it’s going to be the guy who does it midweek & fills in when Stellings away…
That can't be true. The "experts" in this thread have already decided the new presenter will be a disabled black transgender lesbian.

End global warming, though.......
No, with all that water hitting the sun, think of all the steam that would boil us!

Why don't we make a really long hose pipe and just send all the excess water into space?
Don't point the hose at the sun though, we don't want to risk putting it out.

I can't actually think of any Nigels or Gordons who would have been born since 1980 after the two songs came out in the 70s
I had to Google, but the only two born after 1980 I've heard of are Nigel Reo-Coker and Nigel de Jong.
I couldn't find anybody I'd heard of called Gordon who was born after 1980.

Series 2 shouldn't be too far away either, they have either finished filming or soon will have. It was their truck that went into the docks.
They filmed something for series 2 outside my flat. If you see a shop scene with curtains twitching in the flat above, that's me.
