  1. Plus they might have kept this guy on as goalkeeping coach. https://www.gazetteseries.co.uk/sport/4744843.winterbourne-united-attempt-to-sign-former-liverpool-goalkeeper-bruce-grobbelaar/
  2. I see Forest Green have lined up a preseason game against Yate Town. In response, Rovers have announced they'll be playing Winterbourne's under 7s.
  3. "I must have been a right bastard in a previous life"
  4. So basically Marty would have vanished, Doc wouldn't have had a bulletproof vest and Rovers would be just as shit?
  5. Of course, again I was imagining a worst case scenario. But with no Bristol City, they would have had zero competition in the city. Old timers wouldn't have supported them, but kids of the time and people born after 1982 wouldn't have had the same revulsion that we feel now. Lansdown wanted to invest in sport in Bristol, they would be the only real choice. So they'd be at Ashton Gate in 1982, would have similar supporter numbers to us and probably have Lansdown bankrolling them. They'd likely have done extremely well without us. I don't think it works the other way. If Rovers disappeared in the early 80s, then I don't think it would have made much difference to City. A few extra fans, but hardly huge numbers. The rugby club would be complete different though!
  6. Of course. I was just imagining the worst possible timeline.
  7. Assuming no City phoenix club was formed? I think City fans of the time would have refused to support Rovers, but we're almost 40 years on now. Kids and people in their 20s/30s/40s would never have known anything but one club in Bristol and wouldn't feel any loyalty towards City. God knows what would have happened to Rovers though. They'd have had most of Bristol behind them, Lansdown would have still wanted to stick his mark on Bristol. It's horrible to say, but without City, Rovers would have done extremely well.
  8. First image of the movie has been released:
  9. And we were all convinced you were David Furnish! I only know he played the cricket ground because my mum took my nan to see him. My mum described it as "the worst concert I have ever seen, he was awful. He just can't sing anymore, I'd rather hear cats screeching. Your nan enjoyed it though.", which stuck in my mind. ?
  10. Not much of a selection on his island. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Guernsey_musicians
  11. Not really, he played at the county ground a few years ago.
  12. If you like history podcasts then Dan Carlin's "Hardcore History" series is amazing. They are VERY long episodes (6 hours per episode isn't uncommon!) but are so amazingly detailed.
  13. I'm sure they will be very happy to welcome another 1000 dog walkers to the area.
  14. "I would like to say that they are treating us well and we have access to food and water. They've said that if you send the money then we will be allowed to leave unharmed. I love you mum, please arrange for the cash to be left in the prearranged location....."
  15. They'd struggle against the Dorset version of Gillingham. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gillingham_Town_F.C.
  16. And our Emily Salmon's name was Ebony Salmon.
  17. In 1884 Henry Mills Grace launched a proposal to lease some land in Eastville for a County Ground. The land is now home to Ikea and Tesco stores and previously Bristol Rovers FC. These plans were dropped in 1887. Imagine if that had happened....
  18. It's unforgivable, Mr Smith's fields were for scabby sheep not houses. ?
  19. I haven't lived there for 20 years, but I still haven't forgiven the Post Office for changing Frampton Cotterell's postcode from BS17 to BS36. ?
  20. I've always thought that was weird. Avon was abolished in the 90s, long before the internet was popular. It's bizarre that it still exists on so many online forms.
  21. Maybe he's just really really old?
  22. I can just imagine that in their delusional little brains, they imagine the billionaire Lansdown is personally putting up the posters.
