  1. It will be interesting to see how tightly they lock things down and how people react. I think people will be fine for a bit, but tempers are going to rise after a week or two.
  2. If anything good comes out of all this, it might just be that certain people realise that low paid doesn’t mean low skilled or of low importance.
  3. You think it’s ok that the health secretary deliberately lies? And you don’t think anybody should hold him to account for it?
  4. I’m no fan of Piers Morgan, but it’s nice to see at least one interviewer holding these lying bastards to account.
  5. There are a lot of stupid people out there. Rushing into supermarkets during NHS hour? Just the scummiest and most selfish people. It’s not even been that hard to find the things you need if you’re sensible and go to the smaller shops. Avoid the price hiking charlatans obviously, but there are lots of small shops out there that have plenty of stock, I guess because the idiots are all running to the big supermarkets.
  6. I think Netflix bought the rights to Seinfeld, but will not be showing it until next year.
  7. It’s hardly a stupid example. The supermarkets are packed and people are panic buying things like toilet paper. You’re guilty of the false fallacy fallacy.
  8. The very reason I posted the full article is because it’s just as critical of Johnson as it is of Cummings. It’s also from The Times, which lends enormous weight as they are not a lefty or anti-Tory paper. The article does exactly what you request, it highlights Johnson’s failures and inactions with regards to closing public spaces.
  9. Queuing up to panic buy bog roll while in very close contact with 500+ people, isn’t necessary or sensible.
  10. I agree, people should stay in. Tennis seems a low risk compared to Tesco though.
  11. Depends on their relationship to each other. If I went and played tennis with the wife, it’s not really any different to us staying in. Some housemates going to play tennis isn’t any extra risk. As long as they stay away from others of course!
  12. It’s all very similar to when there’s a mass shooting in America and the likes of Fox News immediately jump to “now’s not the time to talk about gun control!”. If the government is making mistakes, then now is exactly the time to point it out and hold them to account. I’ve seen a lot of people on various sites posting that Boris is doing a good job. It’s perfectly reasonable to point out that he’s also made a lot of mistakes. The biggest of which was appointing and listening to a monster like Cummings.
  13. Yeah all skilled tradesmen are fraudsters. And yes that’s sarcasm.
  14. This isn’t a normal situation. I’d probably agree if it was just a downturn in a particular area. But this is far different and involves the government shutting things down and telling certain people not to work. The self employed need protection as well as the PAYE employed.
  15. Well we were in a stage where the rest of the world’s experts were saying schools etc should be closed. Lots of British experts were also saying it. But the British government put its fingers in its ears and thought it knew better than everyone else. Actually that’s not fair, Trump’s America has done similar. And then, a week too late imo, we had to shut the schools etc. The government were listening to advice that was incorrectly modelled (using a less lethal disease) and wanted to go for herd immunity. Then they remodelled for the actual disease and realised their plan would kill hundreds of thousands. Then they announce everything is to be shut but they’ll pay 80% of wages. But they don’t do the same for self-employed people? So yeah. The government has poor advisors.
  16. Nobody would have got everything 100%, that’s true. But Johnson has not done a great job so far. Experts have been saying for a long time that schools/pubs should be closed. He reacted way too late. It’s great that he’s guaranteeing workers wages up to 80%. But it’s also damn clear that the self employed are going to need help. That’s a clear own goal, especially from a political party that usually champions small businesses. Criticising (or indeed praising) the government doesn’t have to be party political or a left/right issue. They currently seem to be on the right path, but there is a lot more they need to do.
  17. That’s a great shout! The first season is a bit meh, but it’s amazing once Danny DeVito joins.
