Happy days boys we've stayed up if it's over

Well whereas we could've pulled away by beating Rotherham, we now find ourselves a point of relegation and in a dog fight with 6-7 other teams. Would've been nice being a few points clear of everyone else. The mid table sides are also starting to pull away from the bottom. It's pretty clear where we'll end up. It's not over by all means but it's pretty obvious why most are nervous. We are inconsistent, can't finish and have the smallest squad in the league. It's not a good recipe for staying up. And if we do stay up, is 20th good enough to attract better players? In January, when we are 19th and 4 points clear of relegation, can we recruit quality? Doesn't seem likely. When we finish 18th and Kodjia gets an offer from Villa or Norwich, will he stay with us?

Time to bring back Wilbs?  He got some flack but we were scoring more when he was in the team.

Agard has been good and working hard. I like him in there. I wouldn't mind rotating(wtf is that?!?) them a bit. Cotterhill isn't a fan of using his whole squad though. I prefer Wilbraham in away matches though. Just seem like the type of player needed to get the young team going away from home. Agard on the other hand fires up the home crowd by pressing and using his pace. Don't think Wilbs should be just sitting on the bench.

I don't know what people expected in all honesty. Easy wins every week?

I expected a good chance at winning after almost beating a team that was in the prem 6 months ago considering we are playing a team that is second bottom. I didn't expect the game to be basically over by HT with them up two. I didn't expect it to be easy but I expected better and I think it's fair to assume everyone expected better.

  4. The problem isn't the results. It's the message the club is trying to send us. Big bids on players, players saying they're finding form and can push up, the new stadium. It doesn't fit with what is happening. We are a small club and that's ok. Come out say it and act it. Don't shed salary hoping to use 2 players worth of salary on one tar then fail. We could use Greg Cunningham and JET who funnily enough meet our criteria of young experienced players. The club keeps saying it's bigger than it is and expecting to get bigger because of it.

Sure the summer is over and nothing can be done now but it'll be looked back at in 10-15 years as a missed opportunity. January won't be the answer with the position well be at in an hour. Blackburn got it together. Preston defend way better than us. Rotherham have a new manager and are about to put 6 points up in 2 matches something we haven't come close to doing. We are one of the worst teams in the division and the club only has itself to blame. Loans were there. Free agents were there. Signings were there. We wanted to be a big fish on a little budget and we are getting smacked around.

So you can understand the frustration. We were lied to. We were told the club is on the up. They had good intentions but failed. All we will have to show for it is a tidy profit on Kodjia and league 1 football.

  5. It's a good point but I feel we could've gotten another goal before they scored. First half was a good game plan. They had possession and we kept our shape and countered well. Won a few fouls and got a goal. When we had the ball we tried to go forward.

Then second half came and it looked like everyone's first thought was to pass backwards. Why? Seen Pack and Williams do it. Received ball and immediately turned to pass back and put our back 3 under pressure. There was no need to sit so far back so early. Thought their goal was Pack's fault. Think it was a long ball and he decided not to jump for it. That Elohamady won quite a few headers and think Pack let off that once and it was flicked on to Diame.

We just need to keep that belief. We've shown we can play with most teams on our day. I'd rather concede our first trying to get a second then be pinned back and concede and feel like the 2nd for the opposition is inevitable as it did yesterday. We could've had 2 or 3 in the first half if it weren't for some cynical fouls and we took the pressure off in 2nd half and maybe kept some of their players on the pitch when we could've been running at a couple defenders on yellows.

    Well that didn't take long.

So what happens if we do lose? Prepare for League 1?

30 games to go after today...

Plenty to go after today, yes. Bolton is the kind of team we need to be beating if we want to have a good season. Sure, some think just staying up will be ok. I don't. I think we need to do a bit better than that. Above 15th to keep any momentum and some of our best players. Beating a team like Bolton is one way to get the momentum flowing and back to back wins. Especially as well be very much the underdog in our next match against Hull.

  7. Never a truer word said and a lot of us older fans have seen this before, if we had capitalised on, Ipswich, MK and Brighton we would be 7th/8th now but we didnt and we only have ourselves to blame, MK and Forest, we dominated and then just sat back and let them play us in our own half and we have given them the points on a plate(not Forest I would hasten to add). We cant take too long to realise what we are doing and Cotts must drill this into the players. We are a pretty handy side but even though I have become a 'Dolmanite' temporarily this season I have seen the lack of concentration that slips into our play later in the game. Sort this out and we will finish mid-table, no problem.

Exactky. I still hope Cotts was right and after 15 or so games we get it together. Though, he also said what gets you ahead keeps you ahead. Then he took off an attacker in Bennett for a CB. That's not playing the same football is it? So it's been a season of contradictions for me. Need to actually play the full 90 like we did at Boro and we will be more than fine. I still think 10-14th is realistic for us but the results need to start happening now.

  8. I don't see how you can't be disappointed. Regardless of the opposition, we've had leads in our last 4 matches and won only 1 of them. It's the same problems every week. We don't take our chances and opposing teams do. The subs are always too little too late. We can't defend and play with the ball too much. Everyone sees the problems and they don't get fixed.

Of course tonight was tough but we done ourselves no favors by losing leads in about half our matches this season. Beat MK Dons and Ipswich and this is an easier loss but we don't take care of our points and we lose them.

  9. Before the game I would've taken a point but considering we were up with less than 5 minutes remaining, I think it hurts. Maybe tomorrow the lads can look back and say we played well but today it hurts.

Again badically no subs used or used much too late. Sure we could've used fresh legs. I know Pack and Wilbs are tall and can help in the box defensively but we were already quite big back there. An away point is good but considering all things should've had 3.

must win at home to MK dons
