I remember being frozen at a home game against Wednesday on a Saturday afternoon.

I had a Saturday job on Park Street and because it had started snowing there was next to no shoppers out and about, so come 1pm, you can go home.

A 99p Micky Finns lunchbox and off to the gate I head. In jogging trousers and a t-shirt.

No idea what the score was, just remember spending a fortune on Bovril. (Might have been a draw, I do remember they got the orange ball out).

Now, Micky Finns lunchbox!! That was the absolute business. I never quite got my head around the value.

    I can relate to this.

Honestly, it was incessant during the 80's.

Before that time I hadn't been particularly bothered about Rovers. They hid under their rocks during the late 70's but crawled out when the wheels started to come off at Ashton Gate.

I didn't understand why they wanted to ram their dislike of City down my throat, but in later years a good mate of mine who is unfortunately a Gashead revealed the problem from his and his mates perspective and for me it highlighted quite clearly why the problem is actually theirs and not ours......

When we got promoted to Division One it was all about Bristol City, not just City but the prospect of having the best players and teams in the land coming to Bristol on a regular basis. Suddenly all of the newspaper main headlines were about City, the local TV sports reporting was City first, the main sports news and match of the day brought even more attention to Bristol City and for Rovers fans it felt like they were being bombarded by City related interest. They felt aggrieved by this as there were two teams in Bristol and they felt like they were being forgotten about. Even when they had a great result they were always pushed down the pecking order in terms of coverage and reporting. They saw it as a 'bias' towards Bristol City and became frustrated, annoyed, envious and jealous and took it out on the City fan base. In reality, it's no different from hearing about the Premier League nowadays and rarely hearing about either of our local clubs because there isn't a wider interest. It is why they always feel hard done by and why they continuously play the victim. So when the bubble eventually burst and we crashed down the leagues they reveled in our demise. At last we could begin to feel like they had felt, insignificant to the world of football.

This underlying bitterness and resentment has continued to fester throughout the years and every so often it rises to the surface. It happens if they win and we lose, it happens when something good happens for us (like the arrival of SL and the rebuild of AG and the club's infrastructure), or when we are in the spotlight (like the Carabao Cup run). Times like these are when they become extremely agitated. If they win promotion they're suddenly "Coming for Bristol City". They can't just be content with their own success and leave it at that.

Only a few weeks ago they picked up a win on the same day that City lost and immediately took to social media "Singing The Blues". They just can't help themselves. They compare everything to City as their yardstick. It really is very sad, but my god, doesn't it make them an easy target to wind up and rip the piss out of?!!!

    Absolutely nailed it.

    This ^ all the way.

Never in the history of football forums has there ever been a place so deluded and precious about things.

Got a complaint that the half time cuppa you got had too much milk in it? Eff off down to Trashton you gurt Ted.

Not sure you can justify a season ticket for next season? You MUST be a Ted.

One of my favourites in the last couple of days, was the poster who claimed that the Mem was a hostile environment for visiting teams.... Yeap. Their home record really supports that delusion.

Not really delusional. The recent Ben Fogle documentary showed how hostile it is. I mean he was time limited and monitored constantly for over exposure.

  4. The Anchor (now Air Balloon) wasn’t a football pub but was mental, and was responsible for the last bus to Patchway in the 80’s being the only bus in Bristol to warrant a screen for the driver. Even that wasn’t enough on Friday and Saturday when the bus would terminate the stop before at Filton Library.

Losing 6-1 to Accrington, they really are the gift that keeps on giving...

... And speaking of which, here's an actual potential gift that you can buy in a real shop for £20...

It really would suit those with 'minimalist' art tastes...

**** me they’ve got the Whitney Cup and the Conference Play-offs in that list of silverware, bottom right. Also the artist has missed out the canopy, the grotto, the disabled pagoda, the skip, the shipping containers and the portaloos. No wonder it’s on offer.

Classic Rovers on Twitter today, I wonder how the ‘300 more were locked out’ figure was arrived at?  Did they do a head count?  Did they multiply the actual number by 10, then add 100, then round up to the nearest 100?

Well I can count 17 in that picture, so I think it must be multiply by 20 then take off 40 to account for any exaggeration. Of course we will get told there was another gate where the missing 283 are waiting.

Wasn't he involved in a car accident?

He was. Airlifted to Dorchester Hospital, 13 operations, and had to learn to walk again. Got a lot of admiration for him, and if you look how Yeovil are doing now, I don’t think sacking him was the answer for them......anyway, what have the gas done that’s stooooopid this hour to lighten the mood on a November evening?

The best bits of that are not the first half of each - with all the dates and leagues - but the second half, listing the achievements during that time.

Shouldn’t it have the Whatno Cup win listed for them? Just so we don’t get accused of inaccuracy.

    They’re at it again.

I don't know if the opening poster is on the wind up or not...But with respect if you look at clubs like Wigan and Hull that are now back in our league.

Or at clubs like Swansea,Cardiff, Reading, Rotherham,Bournemouth, Huddersfield,Stoke and others. All have been mostly played in the bottom two levels and never filling there old grounds 10/15 years ago and before spending time in the top flight ( apart from Rotherham that is) all were on the same level crowd wise as us and smaller clubs.

At the moment (pre C19) at the Mem- we would average anywhere between 8k- 9k during a standard mid table season, and 10k plus during a decent season.People forget how awlful the MEM is for any fan of football unless you are in an expensive
    Box in the west stand.

They went on sale in April. I have been a season ticket holder for I would guess about 25 years and I haven't renewed yet, I'm furloughed my wife (a care worker) was instructed to stay at home for 4 weeks during which time she only got sick pay and my son has been furloughed. Hopefully when all this is over I will have a job to go back to, but there is no way I will be buying a season ticket until I'm sure I can use it.

I hope it all works out for you Miah. I can only imagine the worry you are facing.

Game's been called off, probably just as well as we'd only see another defeat they've already beaten us once this season.   Some have booked tickets with Great Western to have made the trip over there but are hoping for reimbursement.     Not sure if Coronavirus if a viable reason to offer a refund right now but hopefully given the circumstances and growing concern of subject matter those who have paid will be entitled to refunds.

Wouldn't have gone personally it's hardly a short journey and besides watching Town at the moment is hardly an enjoyable experience.    I wonder to what extent the remaining games will be effected not just here but in Europe and possibly Euro 2020, will they be cancelled ?    All hypothetical but the virus thing seems to be getting out of hand and sport's being disrupted to such extent you wonder what potential impact it will have on the months ahead.

To be fair to them GWR are usually pretty good at refunds and helping out when exceptional events occur.
