Read somewhere that is was too small, lacked any facilities for support and medical staff. Somewhat below the standard expected for the Downs league.

There's a post above from a more observant member than myself, noting that the stand is incomplete (missing stairs and seats). So 1970 is fairly definitive.

I'd reckon mid 70s as the Dolman still has the clear side panels. It wasn't too long after construction when they blew out in a storm and replaced by standard cladding.

The rivalry only lasted one season. It was 50/50. Villa had half the tote end.

Don't know for sure  but in the 1st division days, we had a capacity of 37,000 with 7,000 seats. So 30k for the terraces. Not unreasonable to assume 10-11 K. Not sure they would all have a view.

To be fair, that article is somewhat dated. The author refers to the Gas only playing in the middle two divisions (although bottom of 3rd division South is a stretch). They've expanded their use of the pyramid structure in recent years.
