I think I heard it said prior to last Saturday's match that NP picked the team. I guess CF was responsible for the substitutions.

If Pearson isn't well and isn't involved with the players at the moment, there is no way he should be picking the team - in fact he should sever all links with us until he is better and back to work.

Amusing to read the responses here, and the speculation about the manager's health - see my separate thread, in which my question about Pearson's long-term health results in getting slaughtered.

What's Gould supposed to say? By law, you can't get rid of someone who's legitimately ill without their consent. And there's a lot of uncertainty and unknowns about long COVID (if that's what it is*). So he's hardly going to announce on air that we're binning an employee.

There must be some clause/sub clause in the contract between Nige and BCFC which covers retirement due to ill health.

I wonder what the financial implications are for each party if this happens.

So, several hours in and aside from no pressure conference, we are all still none the wiser and speculating.

    Love it.

Hope the big fella makes a full recovery and does whatever is right for him and his family. Hopefully that includes a fully fit and focused NP continuing to manage the side, but if it isn't right and his doesn't want to be living and working remotely and alone when feeling shit, you can't blame him.

I think that interview has actually told us quite a lot regarding Niges future.

The massive implications of what Gould said are that they hope he comes back but he probably won't.

Listening to Gould it sounds like Nige won’t be back for a while.

Would getting Warnock in as a temporary caretaker for say 10 games be such a bad idea?

Don’t like him or his style of play much, but I can see him giving us some dead cat bounce and a bit of a pick up.  I  also think he would get us at least 10 points over such a period and would take the appointment on that basis.

I can’t say I’m confident of us getting that many points with the current rudderless ship.

There has been a precedent of City appointing a caretaker when needed - the women getting in Beard to cover the maternity leave on a short term basis.

Nige may not be back in person but how much is he directing things from his home. I am up for a temp to come in but will he be?

I don’t think NP will be back personally

Yes..Gould was rather unsure when asked if he would be back and replied that we hope he will be back. That word takes the control away from them and makes Nige as the decision maker over all this.

I think the situation is ongoing and things are going on in the background that we are not party to.

I too am getting messages (No source, mind) that NP is toast.

Neil Warnock as his replacement? I sincerely hope not. I’d no more want him managing our club than that poxy skeleton from Kingswood.

Dont let you despising someone get in the way of the prospect of us winning a few games

I actually think that is a real risk  that he may walk away.

God help us if he does.

Be very careful what you wish for Nige will sort us out BUT, as he has said, it will take 3 years.

Great, he'll get us back up from Div 2

God love us as City fans... Who are we honestly going to get that is better than Pearson? He's the most proven manager we've had in decades. The reason we're s*** is because the squad we have is s***.

We had a good couple of years and SL and Ashton got over-excited and over-confident and thought we could sell these great players and replace them with cheaper, but just as great, players. Spoiler alert; they were wrong.

Through multiple bad decisions, we've accumulated a squad that is simply not good enough and laden with players that are falling down the pyramid (Wieman, Martin, Wells, etc.) Is it a coincidence that all of those players are strikers and our biggest struggle on the pitch is scoring goals? I think not.

Basically, Pearson is the best Bristol City are going to get. I'd be happy to stay up this season and have some continuity with Pearson for at least another 12 months before suggesting we sack him. The focus for me is on Lansdown to put some serious money in to turn this ship around, otherwise I worry for us...

Don't be taken in by his previous reputation and hype....he seems to have lost the management skill he had back then.

  9. Have we been taken in by the Pearson hype. Previously successful managers can lose their mojo and he may have.

I think we have got to the stage where we really should have seen more of an improvement in the team and we haven't.

He has brought in 5 players who should have made the team look a bit better but they haven't really. Plus decent managers have the skill to get better from squads they inherit.

  10. Watching the game at the weekend and previous ones, to me it is clear that we do have reasonably decent individual defenders but as a unit we are nothing short of a shambles at times.

Sounds bizarre but some of the defenders can actually play well whilst the defence as a whole can be dreadful.

The goal v Barnsley was keystone cops and an illustration of just that.

People will say we haven't let many in but that is more to do with Bents and very good fortune in many games.

Presume the guy has forgotten his login today.

To be fair to him - despite the win, the performance today has probably strengthened his position.
