It’s odd that in some ways football wise I think that was our worst effort so far today. We seemed to change our style entirely and up to the first goal the game was tragic. If Fammy is out at all, we have to have a Plan B up front.

QPR created more chances than a clean sheet warrants, but the mood would have been toxic if we had lost. Buys us a bit of time, which we certainly need!

I agree, while being delighted that we registered a 3-0 away win, it was a shocking game of football. Both teams were poor and if QPR had anything about them they would have scored at least once and probably more.

We lacked any style or composure, too often lofting a hopeful ball into the air rather than playing much football on the  ground. Suspect any neutral would likely have given up watching long before the final whistle!

A night when the result was far better than the performance.

I reckon there is worthy team inside this lot. Some really good individual performances, Kelly, Webster, Pack, Mapeena (can’t remember how his name is spelt). Deserved at least one goal. I think with Famara back there’ll be a presence up top.

I agree BR up to a point, in that LK, MP and NM all looked the part today.......in fact I thought everyone had a tidy game, without ever really looking like threatening/scoring.

However, major concerns for me are the lack of goal scoring opportunities and where are our goals are going to come from, even when FD is back don’t think we have a strong forward presence. I am mystified why LJ has said he’s not looking to bring in a loan forward. Seems that he believes that neat, possession, in your own half gets you points.

  3. First half in a nutshell.......IMO very akin to last week v Bolton, in that City have had lots of possession and are playing neat passing stuff in their half but rarely create or threaten anything in the final third. Boro (who haven’t been threatened) have only had a couple of chances (the first gifted them due to sloppy defending) and have been clinical on both occasions (also reminiscent of last week’s game when Bolton scored with practically the first opening they had). All City players look OK, despite not creating any real threat, with our main chances coming from the right but again AW is isolated and we have started to play very hopeful, straight balls to him which are easy to defend.

Boro are very comfortable and failing a miracle are leaving AG with three points.

  4. First half in a nutshell......City are the better team, look comfortable up to the half way line (Bolton seem content to let us play it out from the back) then we are lacking creativity/ideas/final ball. AW is isolated and generally being fed long, hopeful balls.

Need to generate some creativity in midfield and get better support/supply to AW. Little so far of NE (or anyone else) wiping in dangerous crosses. Need to turn poccession into an end product.

Over recent seasons there have been very barren pickings indeed for City from the newly named University of Bolton Stadium. Dean Holden interestingly and forthrightly saying he felt they had every chance of winning the match. Bolton Wanderers were actually Holden's very first club. The left or centre back journeyman had no fewer than 10 clubs including a short loan stint at Valur of Iceland while still at Bolton; I did not see him participating in the Icelandic clap while Magnússon was at the club; clearly such 'trends' came much later.

Dean Holden's time at Bolton was relatively short and he left 16 years ago to join Oldham Athletic. Nevertheless he may have a tinge of nostalgia when going back.

I have said it before and no doubt I will say it again that Bolton are the second most recognisable example, for me, of a club that 'hit a ceiling' in the Premier League then bottled it. The now infamous discussions Sam Allardyce had with the then Chairman Phil Gartside. Of course Sam was perhaps not party to the building debts underwritten by then owner Eddie Davies so it was a scenario destined to force Gartside's hand in not agreeing to the purchase of players Sam wanted to guide the club into a regular top 6 team. He left and within a season they were down and, so far, have not returned. The club were £172 million in debt at one time. Hard to fathom but true.

That Bolton remained in the top flight for 11 seasons is remarkable testament to both chairman and manager although they may have got their sums disastrously wrong along the way and Davies seemed asleep at the wheel and unable to prevent it.

Today City should, at least on paper, have enough but we often lose matches when we underestimate the opposing team; that happened in the same venue last season as I recall. It will, therefore, be very satisfying to win today.

    Good day all.

Good day H so here we are a week later and still there is nothing which elaborates upon ‘reflections of other interesting subject matters’......the anticipation mounts.

Delighted that we won but looks like 3-1 flattered us. Based on the highlights Brum created some excellent chances, if they’d been a bit more clinical / shown a little more composure, we could have easily conceded two or three tonight.

Will need to defend much better at Boro.

    Anything particularly of note?

Nothing particular. His general analysis and reading of the ebb and flow of the game impressed me. Many ex-players struggle to articulate the essence of games however it seemed he was very much reflecting the realities of what was unfolding. As Old-Eastender mentioned he could be management material, that’s if he fancies all that goes with that!

  8. Hello from Gran Canaria. Reading this thread is an excellent (just resisted the temptation) start to Good Friday. Havanatopia has excelled (resisted yet again) with today’s OP.

Let’s hope it’s a cracking (oops) game and we get the three points. I predict a 2-0 City win with a goal in each half from Bobby and Joe.

Travel well the Red Army and cheer us on loud and proud.

City fans, wherever you  are, have a great Easter.

    Good afternoon All.

Do not drink the Clevedon water. That message arrived slightly too late for me and I have been off the grid for 24 hours. Now fighting fit again and ready to go to the match in my continuing presence in England. Aiming to take in as many matches as I can. The voice is almost recovered from Tuesday.

Since I cannot find anybody having stepped into the breach I offer this measly portion as todays match day on a shoe string.. thats it folks. Lets all make our contribution today and bring home a very much required three points.

Normal service will be resumed for Derby. Is that our next match? I can't keep up with it. So many matches, so little time. Two new signings; welcome to Liam Walsh, with a decent cameo on Tuesday and Ryan Kent. Loose the earrings on the pitch fella. Cheers me dears. :)

    Enjoy the game.

Enjoy the game, as LJ always says, there is nothing wrong with being short and sweet.

For some reason I thought you meant the sea water at Clevedon, then I saw this: https://www.itv.com/news/westcountry/update/2018-01-11/people-in-clevedon-area-told-to-boil-water-before-use/

Maybe best to stick to the Royal Oak next time you need a drink!

Certainly with you on the ear-rings

Villa have been clinical. For me their opener was against the run of play, however, since they went one up they’ve grown in confidence and dominated things. We need to get one back early in the second half, somehow. Maybe by sticking Flint up front and bringing on NE with the instruction to get quality crosses in. Rather we changed things and pushed to get back in this game, even if it means we don’t manage to get back in it and end up losing by more. Reckon if we get one back early doors we can push on and their confidence/dominance will recede.

We have already created more chances than in the entire first half
