The police wouldn’t even come if my house was broken into, let alone if someone put spray paint down the side of my house. What makes a football club different?

No difference, we haven’t attended, I have spoken to the security who are checking their cctv , I will then take a crime report as per home office rules when there has been  crime  committed which in this case there is , criminal damage.

We still currently attend all house burglaries where a residential home has been broken into .

And are you also able to confirm that both local clubs are fully up to date with payments for policing and neither team has outstanding invoices?

Unfortunately I don’t deal with that side of football policing

freedom of information request would be appropriate to get answers regarding questions around finance as I don’t get involved in that side of things thank god !!

    I am slightly confused

    1) home spotters is this people looking for somewhere to live?

    2) when you police the gas do you police the 20,000 locked out?

    3)is c-ir Millwall?

    1) police football officers , wearing high viz tabards with blue shoulders, normally located not too far away from a coffee bar?

    2) of course !?

    3) yes it is this season

    Hi @JulieH

Regards the police free games or the policed games point, read increasingly up and down the country it's increasingly the case that games are police free? Read a year or 2 ago that Selhurst Park was for example.

Would I be right in thinking that the technical definition of "police free" is basically one or 2 spotters? Or is that something separate?

    Good question

police free within our force area is 2 home spotters and 2 away spotters . We call it police free or spotter only.

Other forces are similar , I personally don’t know what selhurst park do but often spotter only games are called police free as there are no other additional police allocated to it.

Some smaller clubs have completely police free games where no police officers or spotters are involved . It is wholly dependent on the risk each game poses and is done on a match by match basis .

There are 5 gradings used on a national level that each club will use. They are police free, spotters only, a grade , b grade or c grade . There is also a c grade with increased risk grading (known as c-ir)

football clubs in our force area only pay for a grades and above .

it is a very cloudy area between police free and spotters only , as some forces state games are police free when in fact spotters were allocated !

Ok fair enough. But I think our stretched forces could do without being there.

But that’s not a dig . Our police are ****** these days. Never been a lover of the police. But I certainly sympathies with you lot now.

Thank you, certainly changed over the last few years.

I often point out to fans at meetings and during match day that often there are only 2 Bristol police officers on for most games of football , previously this figure would have been much higher.

As always I would ask people to consider the ride a long scheme, you can apply and come out for a shift with a response officer, neighbourhood officer or our ost units that do operational support . It is very much an eye opener !

All we ask is that you bring doughnuts !!

Not being funny but did a fa Cup replay between roverz and Barnet need a police presence.

Yep police presence at all games for both clubs  this season other than check a trade.

community engagement  and speaking to fans about what we do is far easier to do on the quieter games.

Serious question Julie! Why do you need to count on cctv, surely it would be picked up on the turnstiles?

Or were you having a bet with a colleague?

“I bet there is over 100 there”

”I bet there isn’t your wrong, let’s get the CCTV out”

Yes the figures were available via turn stiles and yes you are not far wrong, on some quieter games at city and rovers we might do something like that!! Loser gets the coffees in !!

    From Gashcat

"I think there is some serious belt tightening going on at the club. Might explain why the away end was shut today. Save money in staff."

    Away end closed. Really?

The standing away terrace was closed today.

Scunthorpe fans were housed in the seats in the away section of the south stand

Totally understood PSR. My earlier comment was very light hearted and, I'm sure, Julie took it that way. My more recent post is slightly more serious.

I enjoy Julie's insights so would like her to carry on posting. Less of the goodwill towards the other mob though eh Jue! ;)

    Noted!

To be fair you lot usually miss it going off, so not surprised that this seemed like large scale disorder. I hope the dogs are ok, they and the horses are always the poor innocents when this happens.

It seems that Oxford took the piss before and after the game, a good100 or so mobbing up in the gas Hobgoblin.

    #woofcup

Yes I would agree with the figure 100.

That's a strange way of spelling 'go out of business' Julie.

You will get zero people on here, Miah apart, agreeing with your point. The rest of us hope they lose every single game they play.

I am used to people on here not agreeing with me !

I saw the trouble before the game at the back of the Blackthorn end and it was most definitely more than the normal Stone Island/Adidas wearing youths arms outstretched yelling 'Come on then' at each other, they were actually punching each other! It was all very retro :)

I did see the Oxford mob outside the pub on Gloucester Road after the game and there were plenty of police so I was surprised when it all did kick off again.. If we are going to back to the 70s I hope we can get Smash and Grab back.

It's on Monday. Don't you lot know anything about the 1st round of the cup?

Yes you are correct, definitely much more than normal handbags!

i am confident we are not going back to the 70s but at this time there has been an increase in football related disorder nationally, it is not normally as violent as this but there is an increase particularly the lower leagues .

lots of debate as to why, but nevertheless I think it is important to point out these people are very much in the minority and not normal football fans.

Hope rovers form picks up soon, I was at burton and rovers fans were very subdued about everything, not like them at all!!

Well I hope the dogs record this gift on their register of interests!

Sounds like it was more significant that a small group if people running towards another small group of people, then running away again before encouraging the other group to attack them before they then ALL ran away, only to then update FaceSpace with a completely embellished account of what happened.

    Glad the doggies are okay.

Yes it was more significant than that!

Dogs are fine, back out and about today thankfully.

I was working this game yesterday and present at all of this disorder. It was probably one of the most violent football disorders I have been involved for a number of years.

i am very very happy that the dogs were present, without them there would have no doubt been considerably more disorder and injuries to police officers. I will be sending them a box of bonios with thanks!!!

i am continuing reviewing footage and will identify any offenders who have been caught committing offences.

we have released a statement and are keen to point out this is a very small minority of so called fans, I am hopeful for further arrests from both sides once footage has been reviewed.

    Are you retiring @JulieH ?

    Not retiring yet !

pc Thomas is also a police spotter but to my knowledge has not taken over my role!

Pc Thomas was dealing with incident being reported by henbury gas and visited him with me.

not sure who this message is from as I have checked my e mail at 1800 and not had one .

Oh it was all cringey stuff alright, but the quote was 'tried to invade the family section and seats were thrown'

You can pretty much see all that happened in the video., although what might not be clear is that the guy on the ground with 5 or 6 stewards and police trying to keep him down is a Plymouth fan who ran onto the pitch after the goal towards the Rovers fans which is what really started it all. The rest was the embarrassing spectacle of a few Rovers fans walking past the netting and staying there saying 'come on then' and a few Plymouth fans doing the same. They all stood there saying 'come on then' for a while giving the police enough time to walk up the steps to prevent anyone actually having to throw a punch and getting hurt. Outside after the game was all pretty much more of the same.

I've seen all sorts of fans (including City) do this sort of thing over the years, you know the pose, crucifix position, suggesting they want a fight, when really , if you gave them a pair of gloves and asked them to step into a boxing ring, they would run a mile. It's all hideously cringeworthy.

I seemed to have strayed from the original point that Rovers did not try to 'get into a family section' I find it hard to believe that the section next to us was a family section, it certainly didn't look like it, and I certainly didn't see seats thrown, although I concede in that video it looks like a couple of things were chucked.

I was present at this game, I can confirm there was no family section next to rovers fans
