Facing newly promoted sides early doors
JackofromSanJavier replied to Major Isewater's topic in Football Chat
I've not had a look at their opening fixtures, but 5 years or so after the takeover and that bloke's rant in the car, I assume that they're home against Arsenal, Liverpool or one of the Manchester sides. -

Are you being hair-ist? Disgraceful ?? -
What one rule change you would make in football?
JackofromSanJavier replied to kiwicolin's topic in Football Chat
The "10 yard" rule at free kicks. It would be nice to see a ref actually take 10 meaningful paces after placing the ball, to show a reasonable guess at a proper 10 yards, rather than the seemingly disinterested 9 shambling shuffles. Otherwise give the ref a digital laser measure. From the placing of the ball, make a member of the defending side stand on the exact 10 yard dot and the ref then walks to him before spraying the line. If the defending player moves during the ref's approach, shine the ba5stard laser in his eyes! The current 10 yard amble absolutely boils my waters - but I am a grumpy old bugger anyway. -
And this is why my name will not be appearing in the retained list for next season……….

To be fair, I liked Woolworths in Swindle...........(if you were there, you know!!!)

Back in about 2007 -8 I coached my team (in the United Counties League) to take quick free kicks if an opposition t*4t deliberately stood in front of the ball to delay things. I'd mention to the ref before kick off that we're a 'quick free kick team' and that we spend long sessions getting blokes in position to receive it (plant the seed, eh?). As soon as we knew that the opposition were into the delaying sh1thousery, the instruction 'Warwick' went out from the dugout. This meant that as soon as our nearest player got towards the ball to take any subsequent free kicks, two others would run (shouting for the pass) into receiving spots (but impossible to get the ball to either of them if the 'mug' stuck his foot out whilst standing directly in front of the ball). The running and the yells of our two lads was always far too much for the blocking opponent to resist. Attempted quick free kick = blocked by the thick beauty who was then booked. We did this in every match throughout the season, some sides took longer than others to stop the housery. And some just didn't learn or didn't realise they were being suckered. I suppose the average number of yellows for opponents was 5. per game The most satisfying thing was to watch an opponent whining at the ref for booking him coz he'd deliberately stuck his foot out to stop the kick............and then doing exactly the same thing at the next free kck! Way more red cards were issued playing against my side than against any other clubs that season. I may be a crap footballing tactician (I proudly admit it!) but being a behavioural psychologist has its advantages such as influencing the weak of mind to take the bait and my side finishing a healthy amount of games against 9 or 10 players! Twas enough to get a points total to avoid what would normally (under my stewardship) result in relegation. Not knowing current rules, I don't know if the offence would still attract a caution. I'm old enough to be from the "If he's offside.....he's bloody offside".

Crikey......that clearance across the goal at 1:55 - from where I sat yesterday I thought it was an absolutely dangerous move. Seeing it on camera now, it's real quality! Well played, fella

The 0649 from Boro has been cancelled - might be some gaps in the away end this afternoon. Gutted for those who had planned the trip on that service.

Looking like it will blow a hoolie tomorrow. Hopefully everyone stays safe and AG swerves damage. My mates lad is flying down from Newcastle tomorrow in readiness to meet his old man and join the northerners in the Wedlock on Saturday. Brown paper bag at the ready! ??

I seem to recall reading somewhere that they'll be in the Lansdown Lounge and also a little time in the Sports Bar before the game on the 19th. Is my memory correct or is the vodka taking its usual Friday night / Saturday morning toll please? Anyone confirm or otherwise? COYR AG8 -

Obviously Jo's beloved HotGal is a bit of a unit, then. I'll have a scrobble around upstairs and see if I have any spare clobber that I could send him. -

I'm always struggling with the why and the wherefore of the Spanish question mark (¿) so I shan't lose too much sleep over the full stop thing. Mind you, at 64 years of age, you've actually educated me on a shoddy grammatical practice that I've been using ever since I mastered joined up writing, so thanks for that @BS4 on Tour...

Come on, Mods…..this is clearly a blatant advert for a business. Please investigate what I strongly suspect is a breach of forum rules whilst I head out to Mr Doner of 183 Whiteladies Rd, Redland, Bristol BS8 2RY for a tasty, wholesome meal (collection or delivery available).
