He's still banging on about the Shrews...
Barton made clear his displeasure with the flow of the game against Shrewsbury, who were effective in breaking the game up and nullifying the atmosphere at the Mem. He expects a similar approach from Morecambe on Saturday.
"I'm looking forward to it," Barton added. "Hopefully we don't get another 5-4-1 but it looks like it based on watching them play. I was a bit ill this week and I don't know if that was (from) watching Shrewsbury play on Saturday or not. It gave me a bit of a tummy ache.
"We've got to remember we're in the entertainment business and if we allow teams who have no intention of playing football to come and spoil games of football, attendances are going to dwindle and, rightly so, people will vote with their wallet and they won't come and attend football matches.
"People have got choices to make with their money and they want to be entertained, they want to watch a really good game of football, end-to-end and teams competing and goals scored. You don't want to watch players rolling around on the floor."

There is news on Brereton-Diaz but perhaps not as hoped...
Telegraph says he's staying at Blackburn, their asking price is £20m.

Hope that means they see a £20m dip into the Champ a bit too rich.

I have edited the title to rid us of the word "Update".
I don't want any updates.
I want the Summer Transfer window to meander to a close with no activity of any note.
The transfer window can only be slammed shut.

Quite disrespectful and bitter from Barton.
SC is a 'get on with the job' kind of manager and is already proven.
Club to club circumstances and the job required changes. I thought we played some cracking football that season and he certainly can't be labled as anything regardless of what the Shrews played like on Sat.
Quite glad he was able to frustrate them as much as he clearly has.
Nice one Cotts!

I’ve only really had five City heroes in my lifetime that have remained so
Chris Garland
Sir Gerry
Tom Ritchie
Bob Taylor
Glyn Riley
Thats the respect I hold him in Gaz
* I’d probably now add Andi Weimann to that small list
I don't even have 5 yet!
Taylor
Shelton
Tinnion
All 3 mean a lot to me for different reasons. Sometimes i might add Scotty Murray if I've had a few.
Absolutely agree on Weimann, he's certainly in contention.

Effervescent Is indeed a good way of describing him Gaz
Firstly Id say he was Andi Weimann ish (Without Andis pace)
Got stuck in and competed great for his size
Ran his legs off , I can still picture him putting everything he had left with his socks rolled down late in games
Always gave %100 and gave us a ‘head’ , a real team player
Notched a pretty decent goal return
Very Inspirational to fan base , which was important then , in his commitment and interaction and his joy when we won or he scored , notably jumping onto the fence at the East End after scoring
For where we were and what we desperately neede , he was gold dust and bloody good
Like it.
Great description, thank you. No wonder he's a ledge!

I started going in 86 when i was 10. He was already a well established name in the team, a popular player and i was told as much. Gone too soon for a young me to get attached or understand what he was about but i remember the Wembley final well.
Just took a look on Wiki to see his apps/goal stats and it includes the following...
"Riley's effervescent playing style made him a popular figure amongst fans. His cult status was cemented in 1986 when Bristol City played at Wembley for the first time in their history. Riley scored two goals as Bristol City beat Bolton Wanderers 3–0 in the Football League Trophy final."
Effervescent is a great adjective for a footballer, particularly an attacker.
Would older posters ( or those with a better memory) agree it fits him? What type of player was he?

Our financial state could be healthier but we'd still be in a similar situation. If an acceptable bid is made then he's sold.
I'd say this late in the window and his continuing good form it's going to need to be a hell of an offer. Perhaps Jan might be more of a worrying time all round, we could lose 2 or 3.
Be interesting ito see if he makes the squad on Wednesday night.

Fair play lads. Could of been tricky but we showed our class in the end.
Great for all 3 scorers tonight.

Sounds like a cracker.

Rotate as necessary. After the week we've had, I'd expect those coming in to uphold the new standard in this fixture.

He's a dynamic, predator type for sure.
I don't know what the modern stat is, offensive awareness? He has it. That also goes for his defending from the front. Aggressive and with purpose.

One benefit of Scott at RWB is his flexibility to be deployed elsewhere when/if we need to change things up allowing Wilson or Tanner to drop sraight in.

Amazing isn't it, nige does it after every game and he is some sort of hero god like man, barton does it and he's a satan.
Bit childish I think
Personally was more about me predicting he would be straight on the officials. Take your point though, it's fair.

First question on RB post match. "...bar the result, some positives today?"
14 seconds later, blaming the officials
