  1. I go back a whisker further, to Fred Ford. AD because he got us to Division 1. Joe but it was his career move. Otherwise “no”
  2. And if Coventry get turned over by WBA tonight !……….
  3. Been attending since 1959 and absolutely furious with this ludicrous, disgraceful embarrassing, decision. Disrespectful to Nige for the work done and to the fans. A real football man who unlike the owner knows what he’s doing. Thank you Nige. Sad day.
  4. Really enjoyed those words of Nige, clearly BCFC and what could be achieved here is important to him not just another football job. A while ago now and for us oldies really but took me back to Terry Cooper’s emotional interview after the Wembley FR Trophy final “….::this is my team, mine and Clive’s” Just hope the contract extension document for Nige is in the printer tray.
  5. Yes, it’s far too early for complete doom and gloom despair, Boro have one point so it could be worse. I’d just like to see the drive and clear ambition shown by Birmingham as a club evident from the back row of their supporters to the players on the field. It made sense to do our shopping before selling AS as selling clubs did not view us as a cash machine but our plan now seems to be wait until all our injuries are back and fully fit then play well for half a season to finish 15th then rinse and repeat. Also just suppose we get offers in for ZV and/or SB before the window closes, as is speculated in some media quarters, will they be fended off or will we get the usual “it makes financial sense” & “can’t stand in a player’s way” “but don’t expect reinvestment people” Not ITK of course but I get the impression Nige is unhappy about circumstances surrounding the loss of AS (noticeably seated for much of yesterday as opposed to patrolling the technical area) How much of the reported £25M have we actually had, large transfers these days are always spread out but it would be interesting to see the payments schedule. Spending big is out of the question of course but surely a couple of mildly ambitious signings could generate more of an immediate impact and stop paper darts being thrown out of growing indifference (no criticism but it looked a bit silly). No paper darts from the Brum fans I noted.
  6. Well I’m far from tech-savvy, as a ST holder going back to rip out ticket books, I just get by with IT but I’m putting my faith in the comments of BasSavage88. It makes no sense to me to fiddle about to make the now expired Preston ticket back in the visible part of the wallet. The ticket is still in the wallet (but it’s been used and therefore hidden, so why would you want to see it) thus it will hopefully update a few days before Brum as the club has said.?
  7. Very sad news. Condolences to the family and RIP Chris. Legend is too small a word Sir.
  8. It’s only a little moan but whilst the scarves on the seats was a great club gesture, I just had a feeling when getting to our seats they would not be there, and sure enough they were not. “Oh some kids scooped them up” someone nearby said. Why would someone do that, when they were free it just seems like take it for take it sake.
  9. If only Nige had been given LJ’s level of resources since arriving. The powers that be never highlight that though, it’s always “we are where we are” and we move on.
  10. Great to look back at that night of course, fantastic occasion for sure, up there on my list of highlights since I first walked into the open end in 1959 and caught the BCFC bug. Really makes me so angry though conversely as to what was allowed to happen afterwards, and the current regularity of rolling out the “Oh well, we are where we are” phrase is so annoying. Hopefully there will be other such nights in the future and one day we’ll actually capitalise fully as opposed to entering the usual dismantling it phase.
  11. Really hope I’m wrong but does the “trust” comment relate to Nige finding out RA has been speaking with his agent about a route out ? It needs sorting out regardless as at this level selection has to be fully fit square pegs into square holes.
  12. I thought that was just a very worrying uncomfortable interview.
  13. So good to hear this at last yesterday; been saying for a while that it would be great to adopt this, OK the band is not UK but some of the words are just “us” (cider, Bristol, West Country men all in a few lines) Too good to miss IMO. Need to get the fans singing it though. Sounded a bit muffled in the Dolman but could have been just the old Tandy speakers, was it clear from elsewhere?
  14. No, it really doesn’t, and I wanted SOD here but I’m better now.
  15. Found myself thinking along similar lines yesterday, it’s understandable why lower league and other younger acquisitions have become our external recruiting model and it really has to be so to supplement in house developing players, but of the current squad it’s really only Rob Atkinson, JD at times and Williams when fit who have fulfilled the model. In time Sykes, Wilson and Naismith may indeed become mainstay players but bringing in the occasional 28+ ish “been there and done it” including nasty bar-stewards and natural leaders (the Wilbs type) for the here and now might just help the cause. Of course we’re broke financially which probably knocks this on the head.
  16. A couple of loans from PL clubs of players who are keen to make the point to their parent clubs that they are good enough (that’s all the Tammy scenario was about TBF and same with Simms yesterday) could make all the difference. Controlling midfielder for one. Do we have the contacts though ?
  17. Let’s be honest, Point 2 has been neglected far too often over the years. We’ve got it right at times (Smithy and Pack, David Noble to name but three) but how many times on this forum has it been said we need a Barry Bannan and/or A N Other nasty bar steward in the middle to point here there and run the show.
  18. RIP Stoney. A very sad day. Always part of the match day experience, somewhere on route there would be Stoney for sure and the iconic red hat, like a beacon. Will be greatly missed.
  19. Very sad news, RIP and thanks Clive. A key figure at a critical time for this club. I often recall the television interview with TC on the pitch after the Wembley FR Trophy win, TC saying - It’s my team, mine and Clive’s..........Says it all really.
  20. Renewed, two of, had these Dolman seats since the dark days of 1982 and was in another block before that from the Division 1 promotion time. One was my late father’s, now my older son’s. This frustrating club just gets in your blood ! I could get to watch FGR quicker and easier than getting to the gate but just couldn’t do that.
  21. Exactly that. All opinions are valid for sure but the mission this season was to stay up and NP has done that, IMO those advocating yet another change guarantees nothing other than more disruption and £££ss going out the door. It’s about the long term project / bigger picture and we might get there quicker if there was more buying in to that. Yes it’s highly frustrating we seem to be always in transition and part way into a plan but a few shrewd summer signings, some weeding out of the wage bill, more of NP’s “is what it is” straight talking (no references to analysis of “box entries” and the like) and we might be pleasantly surprised.
  22. Watford making early preparations for next season ?
  23. We’ve had some good keepers and of course it was a different era but Gibbo always top IMO. The diving at forwards feet sticks in my mind, coming out the other side with the ball, don’t see that much these days but of course the game was different then.
  24. Fans quite rightly have differing opinions regarding managers, that’s fine. I take a lot of reassurance though from very often during business meeting breaks bringing football into discussions and since NP’s appointment, not once from Plymouth to Edinburgh have I had to explain who he is unlike the majority, apart from Joe Jordan, that have gone before (and I go back to the Fred Ford era). The reactions I have had range from “how did your club manage to get him” to “solid appointment that” Yes, this season has been highly frustrating of course but did we really expect more given the mismanagement on and off the field over the last few years made worse by injuries and Covid. The green shoot signs are there IMO, a few months ago WBA would have hammered us but they didn’t today and I’m not so sure that as many new signings as some are saying will be needed, but the club certainly has to be clever in terms of offloading, securing fees for a couple of the gems and recruiting square pegs to fit our currently vacant square holes. It can be done, some of those punching above their weight towards the top of the table now have done that. Also refreshing to hear Nige talking about the summer and next season. I’m sticking with Nige, just give it time......ask a Leicester fan.
  25. Still got the supporter share release brochure which goes with these. Worrying times but still proud that we with the AG8 contract terminations of course made it happen.
