  1. Imagine having as your claim to fame that you played for Bristol Rovers reserves
  2. I bet Liverpool fans still pine for Shankly, or Man Utd fans for Busby or Ferguson. And Stoke fans for..um..Pulis. Only natural. Fortunately for Nige, he escaped before the ‘inherited a mess’ vibe started to wear thin.
  3. Great players like that will find it very difficult working with more ordinary players in the lower leagues. A disaster waiting to happen.
  4. Next thing will be players refusing to play as it makes them more susceptible to injury
  5. Maybe a tad later when the other team score their 95th minute goal.
  6. Are we saying something surprisingly good happens to City if the year ends with a 4?
  7. The whole point of a forum is to invite opinion both for and against any point of discussion. I would suggest that OTIB is particularly good at it. But you will always get the extremist nutters just as there are in any walk of life.
  8. There was a book about Bristol City fandom written a long time ago by Charlie Dickens. It was called Great Expectations.
  9. Well, he has to be mentioned every time there’s a thread like this. That player who TC drove down from Darlington who he paid £18,000 for. Alan Walsh Esq
  10. I was hoping that the game at home to West Ham had put to bed the idea that atmosphere was anything to do with the design of the stadium, where fans are placed and whether the houses behind the Atyeo are bought or not. Just make noise!
  11. That’s not a bad idea actually. It might avoid the boring stalemate we often see in Extra Time in knockout matches. Have an immediate sudden death penalty shootout first and then the losing team gets an opportunity to overturn the result in 15 mins of Extra Time. Would liven things up quite a bit.
  12. “The Lansdowns are hugely popular figures here at Ashton Gate for all they’ve done for the club, with the development of first class facilities and stadium and for establishing them as a second tier outfit. Before they arrived the fans had been mostly served third and fourth rate football since 1980. Some of manager and administrative recruitment hasn’t always been as successful as they would have liked but the supporters are mature enough to know that the wisdom of hindsight is a wonderful thing. The mood is positive here in the red part of Bristol with the whole community looking forward to the next stage of club development, and with a bit of luck, promotion to the PL (promised land) with the godlike Lansdowns at the helm.”
  13. (Just as the game is about to kick off) "So, can the Robins burst West Ham's bubble in this year's FA cup?"
  14. So the question is: What time will the first 'ffs' be posted on here? I'm going for 14:09. Supplementary question: What time will the first 'get in' or 'Tooooommmmmyyyyy!' be posted? I'm going for 15:35. 1-1 and a famous replay victory at AG with Spurs away waiting for us in the next round. Possibly.
  15. No idea why this this thread has turned into a BGS nostalgia trip but for some reason I’m finding it quite interesting. Keep it up lads. Were there any female teachers there?
  16. Don't remember it being that close to Christmas!
  17. Anyone remember the TV quiz Sporting Triangles? Guess how many teams there were.
  18. ‘Over excited child’ has been a feature of many of the team captains for years, making it appealing to younger viewers. To try to make it more appealing to younger viewers, they ironically recruited two relatively more sensible captains. Who makes these decisions?
  19. I bet LJ wishes he had been first to come up with ‘smash the nicety out of it’ Priceless.
  20. Hope that’s not because the previous user was short of loo roll
