I'm quite happy with HNM and A.S. not being at the top of their game until the end of the season.
That Alex Scott needs to calm down though.

If we do have an appointed penalty taker, I wonder if any in the team remember who they are, or if they left 18 months ago.

It's not just here but at his previous clubs as well. As all his managers have known he will put a shift in without sulking, he seems to have become the "go to" player to play out of position.

If M.A. was still here, I would have feared a cash in before the end of his contract to make the balance sheet look better.

However, as his new contract was on lower wages, I sure many clubs will be happy to pay him a lot more.

As long as he feels fairly treated, I think we can hang onto him for a good while.

I was wondering ages back how long before AW would be criticised for scoring too many goals in the same match.
He may not have scored in that many matches, however, in most he will 3 or 4 times leave defences for dead, beating the offside trap, to put himself in a likely scoring/ assist position, only for a safe  pass to be made out to the left or back to midfield.
The times it does go to him, the pass is usually delayed and he's had to check his run and has a defender on top of him. Not his forte.
So should we play to his weaknesses and criticise him, or look to aiding what he does better than most? (Same applies to other criticised players.)

Excluding penalties, only 4 Championship players have scored more and only one of those has provided more assists. I also suspect they get better service and a hell of a lot more opportunities. Also with not following those clubs, I'm totally unaware how much of the boring stuff they're expected to do.
Sure I'd be happier if A.W. danced round defenders like Salah, but unfortunately, complete footballers are beyond our budget. Until then I'll happily settle for Andi.

Update/More Context.
He is now the 4th top scorer even allowing penalties, with only 1 of the others providing more assists, and well on his way to the "Magic" 20 a season.
2 of the other 3 are with Parachute Payment Clubs, the other a 1000-1 long shot to reach 20 goals at the start of the season.

Reality.
Even if the clubs wanted to sell, the other 3 are valued at 8 - 14m more than Andi and surely on loads more money. We won't be buying them.
Even if the clubs would let them go, the players would have to decide between joining us or staying with a club likely to be in the Premiership next season, along with the associated rewards.
Also not happening.
So any suggestions on a guaranteed improvement on Andi, other than finding that 1000-1 striker or that lower league superstar that has proved elusive for years?

As many others have posted, curing a scoring problem by buying a striker, is only a solution if it's your strikers that are the problem.
 

As it's a well know fact that Andi W will never score more than 12 in a season, should we sell him for 2m now given our current predicament?

PLAYER TO WATCH: Andreas Weimann (Bristol City)
After the defeat at home to Huddersfield, one Bristol City player leaving the pitch with his head held slightly higher than the rest of his teammates was Andreas Weimann. The Austrian scored both of City’s goals in the 3-2 loss, marking the fourth occasion this season he’s hit two in the same game. Only the division’s two top scorers, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ben Brereton-Diaz, have recorded more two-goal games this season in the Championship than Weimann.

So what does this tell us about Weimann? Although his main asset is speed and running power, surely you need to be a pretty decent marksman to be knocking in doubles multiple times in a season. The obvious question concerns Weimann’s consistency and why would a player score twice in a game more frequently than he scores once in a game? There may be some fire with that smoke, and with Bristol City’s expected goals total ranked seventh in the division, they are a team that makes chances despite currently being 18th in the table.

When we look at how Weimann is utilised, maybe the potential inconsistency is more understandable. He has started every game this season, but in a multitude of positions within a variety of different team shapes. Drilling down into Weimann’s personal stats revealingly shows a player performing decisively, his nine goals come from an xG of 6.61 and his four assists come from an xA of 4.48. Perhaps Weimann is one of those cases where his ‘usefulness’ is viewed as his most important skill, and ‘useful’ players are often asked to focus on the team rather than themselves. It’s Luton away next for Bristol City and confusingly the evidence tells us Weimann is more likely not to score than to score, but if he does score he’ll probably score twice!

Not at all sure on this one.

The initial loan spell is up next month and we could recall at anytime (as we have done) should there be a Covid outbreak or whatever.

Fine if there's a plan and need for him immediately, however, I hope Nige isn't messing him about just to provide an extra rap on the knuckles for the current defenders.

I'm not saying he is, as usual I don't know. We shall see.

Weimann has 9 in 23…and offers a lot more.  He has been “in and out” form wise.  The stupid thing is he could give us more!

I don’t use centiles in my data, because I prefer using the actual values.  In this case knowing HNM has 0.00 goals per 90 gives a clearer view than saying he’s is the 63rd centile, above average.  Basically he’s part of a group of zeros between the 0-63 centile.

I fully agree with what you were saying, however, it has just occurred to me that percentiles can be of use in some circumstances, especially for those not as familiar with stats as yourself.

Most fans will have no problem with looking at a number for goals or assists, consider the player's position and decide if it's a satisfactory return.

Myself, I have no interest in, or watch any Club football apart from City. I therefore assume Kalas is high in the overall rankings for blocks, without the actual knowledge.

You probably know roughly the average blocks over a season for a C.B., for the rest of us, it's easier to see a %age better/worse than check and compare every C.B in the league.

I just realised I've done this in the past when Frank Fielding was getting a lot of criticism on here for his distribution.

It turns out there were 7 or 8 keepers with better records. However, after assuming yet again they weren't all instructed to kick towards the line, and many of those 7 or 8 had come down from the Prem, decided he wasn't too bad at all in reality for our level.

As it wasn't expressed as a percentile, I was glad most teams had just fielded one keeper.

However, as you suggested, in many other areas they're a bit rubbish.

I do agree with earlier comments that it needs mixing up a bit.

However, depressingly I think it begs the real question, "Is it any less effective than the majority of our crosses, corners or free kicks of the last few seasons?"

i.e. Ponderous, Predictable, Lofted and easily dealt with.

For me it was C.O.D.'s return, when he put in an early low altitude cross into the danger area with pace, that reminded me what a rare beast that had become.

A sad situation when one of the basics became a highlight of several matches for me, and a beacon of hope and potential progress.
