In case anyone is interested:
Semenyo to score anytime is 3/1 with Ladbrokes.

A win tomorrow would be a big step forward for us. These are the teams we need to beat if we want to challenge for the top 6.
I don't think Blackburn will be contenders this season, but they are in that middle bracket of teams that can prove awkward opposition.
There's a group of 8/9 teams that we will need to overcome in order to be seen as challengers this season.
I'm thoroughly excited for tomorrow.
-
I've been fairly relaxed all day.
My only concern currently, is that Leeds seem to be scrambling to try and sign a striker.
Current target is Piroe (Swansea).
-
He undoubtedly improves us.
He's been brought in to be the ball-playing defender, and at times looks very good.
In possession he has been caught out a few times, but my issue isn't necessarily with him alone.
Sometimes the option for a pass isn't on, which is where he has been caught out. On one occasion last night he was looking to play the ball out to Atkinson who was marked, and then tried to switch the play to Vyner who was also marked. That then invited pressure.
I think he's been a very good signing, and we are off the back of three consecutive wins and clean sheets, so would rather look at the positives.

Pleasing to see tonight. I don't think we were at our best, but saw the game out very well.
We played our game, and limited them to very little.
Ashton Gate is becoming a fortress, and long may it continue!
A smaller squad seems to be doing wonders for us. There's a real harmony amongst the players.

Dean Gerken returning to the club as a youth goalkeeping coach according to Gregor.
What a great bloke Gerken is. I remember being in my early teens, me and my mates were going to buy some away tickets from the ground.
Gerken walked past us, and asked us how we were and what we were up to. Once we said that we were getting away tickets, he asked how many we needed. He gave us all (6 of us) tickets for free.

Here's an interesting one:
Burnley are interested in signing Michael Obafemi (Swansea). The clubs are in talks and Swansea reportedly want £10m.
Source: Stuart James (Swansea reporter - The Athletic)
Obafemi is not a regular source of goals at all. So we should definitely be looking for a minimum of £18m-£20m for Semenyo in my opinion.

As per another post, we don’t need £15m plus (or whatever Antoine is worth) to comply with FFP.
Would be better off finding someone else of a lower value to sell, e.g. a Dasilva or a Pring, if that makes sense.
My main point with Antoine is that all money received is ours to keep.
Therefore we can subsidize some of the money for FFP purposes, and then bulk up the squad.
It will be interesting in January, as we could find ourselves in a very strong league position, and his value could be at its highest.
Personally, I'd love him to stay. But my main concern is that our squad is very thin on numbers. It could force our hand.
-
The most interesting point surrounding Semenyo is that every penny from a sale would be kept by the club.
As his only professional club, he would have no sell-on % owed to anyone else.
It's quite rare in today's game that we see this occur. Youth players are transferring at young ages and having sell on fees inserted into their contracts. But this isn't the case for Antoine.
He is more valuable than most would initially realize.
From a FFP viewpoint, he alone could offset the clubs current circumstances.
However, we need to consider his current value on the pitch, and what he can contibute.
For me, I would get to January and then consider our next step. His value will either stay the same, or increase in that timeframe.

I’m not sure about him…as I’ve said before…but it’s not an exact science is it. Some players fit well with better players, etc, etc. if this goes through will be interesting to see how he does.
I don't think Birmingham is the right club to get the best out of him.
However, it does look as though they are buying a younger squad this summer, so things may change.

Interested to see how he does at championship level. I think he's a very good player.

Pretty sure they can both play on either wing.
Sarr has played on the left 38 times in his career. Only done so 3 times for Watford.
Before that, the last time he played as a left winger was in 2018/19 season (6 times).
But I can see the logic as a Zaha replacement. Could be that Sarr gets brought in to play as the right winger, and they play the likes of Ayew (62 times) out wide left.

Or Sarr?
Sarr is a right sided player.
Whereas Zaha plays primarily on the left.
-
I wonder if the rumours of Chelsea going after Zaha could have an impact.
If that deal goes through, they could have their finances boosted.
The bonus for us though, is that their priority seems to be Gallagher (Chelsea) and Wan-Bissaka (Man United).

We are one very good defender away from being a realistic top 6 team
I agree. The sooner Kalas returns to full fitness, the better.
If he can return to previous form, we could be very strong.
Fine margins in this division.

A question I never would have dreamed of a couple of seasons ago.
However, I am now wondering, do we have one of the best strike force's in the league?
Granted the likes of Watford, may look strong on paper with Pedro and Sarr. They are extremely talented players, but they are not regular goalscorers.
In regards to depth, I would certainly argue that we are one of the best in the division. I believe any of our first 5 options (Weimann, Semenyo, Conway, Wells and Martin) could get a minimum of 10 goals per season.
Which then poses the question, How successful could we be this season if we can keep the ball out of our own net?
I'm excited for every game at the moment. There's a belief that we can outscore any team in the league. If our defence clicks, we could make a serious push this season.
*I find it even more impressive that Nige hasn't bought one striker during his time with us. Everyone was calling for us to sign a striker (even during Holden's time with us), but Nige has got a tune out of the players already at the club.

What a fantastic servant he has been to the club.
I can't imagine how difficult a decision this must have been, but his health must come first.
Wish him nothing but the best.
-
He did say in the summer that he considered retirement.
My gut feeling is that this will be his last season as a player anyway. So we will need to consider a long-term solution, regardless.
He deserves a lot of credit for the impact he made last season, and the role he has played since joining us.
He was initially a short-term solution, that worked out very well for us. Whether it's now or at the end of the season, he has done the job he was asked to do for us.

Cornebeau has the momentum because Zac is facing away from goal.
Yes true, but how many times have we seen defenders drag the attacker down in that position.

True, but he would have conceded a penalty and they're still likely to score. Cornebeau had plenty of work to do and you have to commend his efforts. Great finish.
The should-to-shoulder contact was outside of the box. Vyner got out-muscled and gave his opponent a yard.

I can never understand this, why should Vyner have to be sent off to save someone else?
It's to save the team.
You would take the red, if it meant securing the 3 points for the team.

It clearly wasn't, no centre half is catching that quick winger after such a hospital pass.
The pass wasn't great at all, I'm certainly not denying that. Multiple mistakes in the build up.
But how many times does Vyner get exposed. Outmuscled, and should have brought the attacker down outside the box.

No clearly Vyner.
Shocking defending.

Think we are good value today.
We are comfortable in possession, playing well in the wide areas.
Alex Scott looks fantastic today.
Another goal for Conway is a huge bonus.
The only slight complaint is that we probably should have scored more than 1.
