FWIW Klose has played most all of his career as the right side of a pair in a back four or either CB3 / RCB3 in a back three.  He’s played very few times at LCB3 until he came here.

In the first two pre-season games I thought he looked fine at RCB3.

But I guess we will see at 14:00 next Saturday.

If Vyner plays it’s because he’s earned it….and fair play to him if so.  Another versatile player should injuries hit…but not long term CB imho.

I might be sounding slightly harsh.

He looked so good last season, that perhaps he has set himself extremely high expectations.

By no means has he looked bad in pre-season, just perhaps not as assured as he did last year.

My opinion on Vyner, is that for years I have hoped that he would be another academy player to push on and become a key player, but last season I felt like covering my eyes at times. He played us into trouble far too many times with sloppy passes and being caught out of position.

As a squad player, fine. But when I see him in the starting line-up, I feel slightly uneasy.

  2. A blessing to Zak may be our current lack of options at RCB. When Kalas returns, Vyner will be pushed down the pecking order again.

Most of our centre backs prefer to play on the left hand side. And Klose does not look the same player when played out of position.

Our main options, other than Vyner are:

    Kalas (RCB - Injured)

    Naismith (CB or LCB)

    Atkinson (LCB)

    Klose (LCB)

    Idehen (LCB or CB)

    Towler (LCB or CB)

9 players out of contract next summer so tons of work yet to do. Won't see Pearson's own team for at least another 12 month.

By no means the finished product, but we are certainly now well advanced in regards to getting rid of the players Nige doesn't want.

Now the next step is retaining the ones Nige wants to stay. Whilst having to do so on reduced terms.

We are in a much better place than we were when he first took over.

Positivity has returned to the club.

  4. I can already imagine Sheffield Wednesdays comments upon completing the signing...

"Sheffield Wednesday are delighted to confirm the signing of Tyreeq Bakinson from Bristol City on a 3 year deal.

Upon registering our early interest, we received 25,000 glowing references from Bristol City fans emphasising the talent of the player.

Robins manager Nigel Pearson followed this up by stating 'words fail to describe him'."

Another one hopefully out the door, as we move towards the end of Nige's rebuild. The squad is finally starting to look like one that Nige wants himself and can take ownership of. Our business is looking good for both incomings and outgoings this summer.

Players that want to be here, and play for the badge.

  5. What a bizarre kit launch.

Let's get three random people, with no association to the club, to perform skateboard tricks, eat a burger and do a few keepy uppys.

Don't get me wrong, I think the new shirt is great. But that video has absolutely no relevance to us as a club.

Here’s the question. If we had money (which we would need for cornick) would you prefer him or Rudoni who hasn’t yet officially signed with Huddersfield I don’t think?

    It's a good conundrum.

Rudoni has more long term potential, and his future value could soar.

However Cornick is ready to make an impact now. This would have a positive knock on effect as it would free up Wells to move on (if there's a taker), and we lower the wage budget in the process, whilst gaining a player more suited to our system.

  7. Henry Armstrong (reporter) is reporting on twitter that we have made an enquiry for Harry Cornick (Luton).

As you may or may not know, I'm a big fan of Cornick. I think he would suit us perfectly, if we are to set up in the same shape as last season.

Henry Armstrong has a reasonably good success rate with his rumours. Albeit he only has 1,000 twitter followers.

As mentioned on the striker scenario topic, he has gone on a bit of a rumour spree tonight so will be interesting to monitor how many are successful in the upcoming days, and whether there is anything in the link to Cornick.

Ciaran Clark just been made available by Newcastle.  Wages would be a huge hurdle obviously, but if there was deal to be made, I could see Nige considering him….same with Michael Morrison.

In an ideal world we’d have mid-age range players ready to step into the gap between TK, TK, RA, KN and the u23s Idehen and Towler….but Vyner and Moore haven’t been able to manage it.

So we are left with a problemette.

I was told that we came very close to signing Clark previously. Johnson wanted him but we couldn't get the deal completed.

  9. I haven't actually got round to watching it yet, however I have come across a trailer for a football podcast featuring Adam Webster.

On YouTube, search 'E-perform football podcast' and you will see the link.

Looks like he discusses his journey from the lower leagues through to the Prem, and I would expect us to be a key talking point.

If anyone gets round to watching it before me, feel free to leave some feedback. I like to watch/listen to podcasts in one sitting and haven't had the time yet.

They’ve got Marosi (28), the ex-Cov keeper, as their no1.  Shrews was my first guess when Bajic interest started, but I’m not sure Cotts would be looking to replace a guy they (allegedly) paid a fee for last summer.  That’s my outside view looking in.  Burgoyne (25)  is their no2, who came from Wolves.

I think Marosi was subject to interest from other clubs earlier in the summer.

Could be an option if that interest in to return.

I think the likelihood is that any loan deal for Max, will have the possibility of it becoming permanent in the future.

Bajic is coming in, who is a French youth international, and is expected to challenge to be the number 1. I can't see Max being able to compete with both Bentley and Bajic. He's at the age where he needs regular games.

Neither Exeter nor Cheltenham have a senior keeper at present.

Both L1, both are relatively local, my guess is one of those two.

Cheltenham was my initial feeling. But feel he could end up at a team competing for promotion in League 1.

I thought Peterborough would have been a good option, but they have signed two relatively unknown keepers this summer.

Wonder if Cotts will be keeping an eye on the situation.

Forest have already added a striker from Union Berlin, so my hunch is that if Antoine was to leave this window for The Prem it would be to one of the 2 other promoted sides, Bournemouth or Fulham.

Obviously brave to sign someone recovering from injury but they seem the right profile to me.

Broke their transfer record to sign him, and I think the total value of the deal was around £18m.

They also want Gibbs-white (Wolves) and Williams (Liverpool). Rumoured to be around £15m-£20m each.

So I can't see them paying our asking price for Semenyo as they have other higher priority positions.

The Fleming mic’ed up footage has some interesting takeaways.

5 at the back, Vyner as a CDM & Sykes as a CAM.

Interesting one Sykes as to me it feels like he is very similar to what Szmodics was - will be interesting to see how he measures up.

Vyner's passing from a midfield position is a scary thought...

  14. Get the impression that Nige knows the tide is turning in our favour now.

A change of attitude, application and personnel within the squad seems to have changed the culture within the club.

It sounds like every player has worked hard during their time off and have exceeded expectations when returning for pre-season.

It's starting to look like his squad now, whilst still missing one or two pieces, it certainly looks like a team he is happy to work with and feels he can get the best from.

Positive feelings for the season ahead.
