Palmer has surprised me this season. Thought he looked really good in preseason, was covering a lot of ground and was getting stuck in with pressing. Looked good against Fulham at home too, wonder if there's something else going on as to why he can't get a look in.

Both me and Harry criticised Kalas and Vyner for not marking their men properly in another thread. Both got caught ball watching, whilst the men they were defending created space for themselves by hanging back from going into the 18 yard box. Creating space and a better angle to receive.
However...this isn't the first time with Vyner. For all the good he does in games, it's undone when he switches off...and it costs us. When defending crosses he's a liability. Weak...too casual, not assertive, doesn't command, no presence, and switches off.
I get the impression he thinks he's showing composure...he's not...it's lackadaisical imo.
It isn’t the first time for either of them. Both been suspect when it comes to marking since last season.

He was obviously great at Preston, but let’s not suddenly pretend he’s been consistently fantastic or dominated lots of games. He’s talented but still young and inconsistent. Quite recently we’ve been saying that he gets out of position too much and chases the ball unnecessarily. Still needs time - unless every game is suddenly like Preston.
He's been on this level for a while now, in my opinion. James has taken a lot of plaudits when he's been fit but Massengo's ability to win the ball and play a progressive pass quickly has been overlooked all season (and before then). The nature of that role means he gets "out of position" and "chases the ball unnecessarily" because that's what he brings to the team. He won't be able to tackle every single player that gets the ball in the middle of the park, that's where he needs a Williams style player to help him break up play and then allow Massengo to progress up the pitch.
He puts the fear of god into defenders when he runs at them and he's regularly beating them in one v one situations. Uses his pace really well to slow down, bait a challenge, and then skip past and gain another 10 yards before releasing the ball. Really special player that has the potential to be a top top player one day. I'd make him one of the top earners here if we can shift some deadwood, but appreciate this isn't Football Manager. From a footballing POV he can definitely be part of a promotion winning side a few years down the line and from a business sense a nice long contract means we can get the most for our asset if we choose to let him go.

He's regularly at fault for the goals we concede. If he can improve on his distribution, marking, one on one defending, aerial prowess and positioning then he'll be up to standard, but that's a big ask.
-
It's unbelievable the amount of people that wrote him off last season. Was clearly an intelligent footballer from the moment he arrived and now he's improved his strength and conditioning he's able to impose himself on games. If we can shift KP/Wells he should be getting a serious pay rise. Tying Semenyo, HNM and Scott down is a now or never situation.

Tidy finish that, nice to see Weimann with the captain's armband too.

Surprising how giving someone game time in their actual position can improve their game.

Yes, that's the logic the FA will use too........
Still waiting for any action from the Huddersfield game... not sure if it's as big a deal in real life as it is in some people's heads to be honest.

I think the EFL and FA will take any crime involving the safety of players and the disruption of the game far more seriously than the vandalism of toilets.
Edit: And thinking about it, I'm don't think the toilets will be mentioned in the referee's report, although presumably City and Cardiff will be duty bound to report this to the football authorities.
Still waiting for the fine/point deduction/expulsion from the league from the Huddersfield game where the game actually got paused...

Haven’ t read whole topic but we should have song for Semenyo.
Heard one a few weeks ago with "fast as lightning" somewhere in the lyrics. Didn't rate it or the Scott one but I've got nothing better to suggest!

Probably the same sort of idiots who give up on 31 minutes when the opposition score and throw bottles at players.
Chances are, City will suffer more because of that than Cardiff will for the internal damage.
No we won't.

What a player. There's a lot of talk about JET being our most exciting player in recent times but for me it was Albert, was always so consistent in a side that was complete shite.
Him alongside Bolasie was one of the best attacks I've seen down City. Not that there's much competition...

I’d say Ashton Gate is a fortress. Two games unbeaten is amazing. We’re on our way onwards and upwards
It’s certainly moving in the right direction

It’s all pantomime mate relax, he knew that hence the applause after the game
Same people who will moan about a flat atmosphere or say Ashton Gate isn’t a fortress

Wouldn’t have him back, his best days are behind him.
Please stop crying about ex players getting stick. They don’t play for city anymore, Pack got his applause at the end. Don’t get your knickers in a knot

We don't know for sure that he didn't want to be here: it's Nigel's version. Anyway, I'm OK with him going, but the memory of last season's injury crisis is still fresh, so fear we could be in trouble again in case of further injuries. Hopefully we',ll be less unlucky...
Strange thing to make up and he said on Instagram that “the feelings mutual” when a fan told him to leave. So pretty sure we do know.

Exactly don’t know why people keep saying it . A Birmingham fan literally ran on the pitch and punched grealish and they didn’t .
Exactly. It also happens up and down the country every week.
Not defending it, but the shouts of a point deduction are ridiculous.

I agree, and that’s not going to happen either.

No way on earth would we get a points deduction for bottles thrown on the pitch.

Loaning out Bakinson and losing King for injury some days later...
Why would we play someone who doesn't want to be here and doesn't work for the team?

He`s had a good game today IMO, particularly tracking back and defending.
Didn’t say he played badly, but he’s got no end product which is quite key for an attacker.

Massengo has suffocated the Cardiff midfield with his harrying.
He had very few options for the goal either. Terrible pass don’t get me wrong but he didn’t have a clear out. He’s played well again today.

If O’Dowda had any end product he’d be a good player.

Oh yeah he’s got good competition, but to not even get a sniff of minutes really surprises me.
