I know that's sarcastic but it's true; outside of the premiership with its TV riches then if you don't have a wealthy owner pumping the money in each year then you will fall out of the leagues.

Look at Stockport County who bottomed in the Conference North, Notts County striggling to climb out of the Conference or Torquay falling out of it the wrong way.

I remember when Notts County were in the top division but without the big pockets owner when you start to fall then you keep falling.

Steve and Jon's decision making regarding the running of the football team is questionable and frequently questioned on here but clubs without the luxury of such wealthy owners fall out of the league regularly.

I would say very much be careful what you wish for with a change of owner.  I wonder what Spencer Trethewy is up to these days.

For our younger readers and those who haven't followed his "career":

He started by "rescuing" Aldershot aged just 19 with £200k that he didn't actually have amd has followed this up with some serious prison time.

Stockport, Torquay, Notts Co. And Aldershot. At least we're doing better than Stockport and Torquay?

If LJ had left in the summer of 2019, I honestly think his reputation amongst our fans would be significantly better than it was when he left ten months later.

Yes, quite possibly. On the other hand, if SL hadn't have fired him when he did, and we were 12th, and let him limp on til the end of the season, then his reputation amongst our fans would likely be largely what it is now, maybe a little worse.

SL put him out of his misery sacking him when he did, and saved him, LJ, a bit of "face," and preserved his reputation somewhat. Before he did any more damage to it (sliding further down the table, back whence he first found us, in Feb 16). One might also say.

If you want to be depressed next up is Birmingham, forget Preston, they are our real bogey side.

Won at Ashton Gate on their last 4 visits, 5 times in the last 6, they are our equivalent of Stoke, they must expect to win every time they come here.

It's like an upgrade on having Walsall as our, or a, bogey team years ago. When we're in the Prem, we can upgrade on Brum to always losing at home to Aston Villa.

Remember that game at Leeds a few years ago under LJ, we were 2-0 up and cruising, then their crowd decided that they'd had enough of giving their players stick and started to get right behind them and created a raucous atmosphere for the last half hour or so.

Sure enough, the players responded and salvaged a draw. Nobody who saw that would say that the crowd didn't have a big impact on things that day.

The thing about us is, we neither get behind and back the team the way Leeds crowd do at their most noisy and vitriolic, and we don't get on their backs with anything like the toxicity that Elland Road can whip up. Ashton Gate is tame. We are pretty much Reading now, Reading without the years in the Prem

Perhaps he could use his extensive list of contacts and get a job in the NHS or the Army :tomato:

Yeah, then pop down Bristol City to see how their manager works under pressure (and tell Matron/Sarge Major all about it afterwards)

  6. We were a bit more spontaneous back in the 80s with the old "protest" against things than today's kids, by looks of it. We'd only have to go 1:3 down at home to Walsall/Gillingham/Notts County and we'd crack on with it, giving poor old Les n Des both barrels . Then exit the Enclosure at the final whistle and carry on from the car park.

These kids up the Lions need to get a bloody wriggle on ....

Spent last night with a Charlton supporting mate, who took me through the latest of their basket case owners.

There is a phrase about grass and how green it is somewhere else….

Yeah? Spent last night with a Brentford supporting mate, and a Brighton supporting mate. Got loads of mates, me. Tomorrow, I'm spending the night with a Leicester supporting mate. And a Plymuff supporting mate.

Don't have a Few supporting mate, though. Wouldn't spend the night with him/her if I did, mind.

I’m sure you put a lot of effort into this…but what is it with fans trying to tell the manager what he needs to do?

Dunno, mate, but it's been going on for over 100 years now. You ever tell yer missus what she needs to do?

That atmosphere is largely down to the fans (ultras) themselves. But Phil Alexander (and Steve Parish) always encouraged it, had an open dialogue with the group and helped it to flourish.

He won't personally be able to create an impoved atmosphere at AG (which we badly need), but he has shown a willingness in the past to work with those who can.

He might, mate,  if he goes full "Tony Harling" from the word go. It's what I'd look for in a CEO,

Personally I think we have a good squad and some exciting players. They just need organising and not played out of position.  Each game we appear to adopt a different and new formation

Without change we are going down. I would appoint Dyche now He is an organiser and knows the club and the division well

Not going to happen, mate. Lansdown not keen on ginger managers

I know, it is effing insanity to mention Dyche.

If people thought about this for 5 minutes & looked at our previous appointments,

.... they would possibly wake from their delusion and slumber and their fantasies and be confronted with the cold, grim reality that .... we are shite and a shambles of a club and run by people who will never outwit the competition and that this is about as good as it's ever going to be.

Let them be in their nonsense, they are better off there with their "if only .... " thinking.

Hopefully, they've learned from the Holden appointment fiasco that clubs run by adults take discrete soundings first and then give the manager the push. You can minimise or even cut out the time you need a caretaker to come in.

Promoting a number two (no jokes please!) to be permanent head honcho has never worked out very well here either, so I trust that wouldn't be the route we go down.

As our set routines and basic marking seems to be at sixes and sevens, I'd not be unhappy to see the First Team coaches depart with Pearson: Whatever they are trying to impart,  it isn't sinking in

Fear of who might replace him though is a poor reason to stick with NP.  You have to take that leap sometimes and be brave. If I hadn't,  I'd still be stuck doing a job I'd grown to hate, with a miserable marriage and living somewhere I'd fallen out of love with.

Graham said yesterday, we need humour ....
