I hate that too! I’m dreading the day when we start getting ‘the substitution, sponsored by xxxxx’ announcements that you get at some other grounds already.

Been there done that. Did Royal Navy Reserve used to sponsor the subs when @Dave L used to read them?

  2. Apologies if covered if covered elsewhere, couldn’t see it.

Belatedly picked up a snippet around a further round of redundancies for Reach PLC (mass media publisher).
    https://www.nuj.org.uk/resource/reach-announces-further-job-cuts.html

It was flagged during Guardian Football Weekly that if certain people under risk get cut, there’ll be no local media left covering clubs and it just becomes in-house (Huddersfield & Plymouth called out as two examples).

How long before Bristol Sport is just covered by one journalist and they get spread too thin?

If people think the in-house coverage of NP’s removal was flimsy, just wait until the club know there isn’t any substantial local media presence to question them at any stage.

Just as big a loss is Dave rennie

But… why? We have a massive injury crisis. Why wouldn’t the head of medical performance be questioned at any time?

Unless he actively tries to hold players back from returning and it is SL/JL forcing them back, which is the “Lansdowns ruin everything” stance to take.

Nige did mention how they manage the training, not flogging players to death like other places

Well I wouldn’t expect any manager to come out and openly say “Yeah, I’m overworking the lads to the point that they risk getting injured but it’s fine” so not sure one side of the story adds to it.

    Did I say that?

We picked up 3 in game injuries on Wednesday. Nobody, no matter how good a medical professional they are, can “prevent” that.

If you think Rennie or anyone else can prevent Matt James getting a kick on the ankle, well, good luck with that.

Might’ve been covered since but a few years ago we had a fan base calling for our physios head due to the number of injuries we were experiencing (and this is a fanbase who are disconnected to the day to day training and work undertaken).

At the time, the team management was defended constantly and then we moved on the physio guy and everyone cheered. No one questioned if the manager was pressing for players to be made available earlier than they should be. No one questioned if the manager and coaching team were thrashing players in training against conditioning advice.

Everything was blamed on the physio team.

Remarkable how we are back around to this again.

    Really???

How come we are dissecting the wording of club statement from 20 September?????

Because the current mood of OTIB is to exclusively find fault with SL/JL and anything they’ve ever said. Ever.

Bristol Sport listed this recently. It’s a disgrace. It’s not “Bristol City” it should be “Nigel Pearson’s Bristol City”.

The level of disrespect shown to him here is staggering 🤦‍♂️

  7. Fairly damming of the ground in this report

Those covers – on wheels with separate tarpaulins, rather than the more swiftly deployed hover-covers at most major English grounds – will surely need upgrading

    https://amp.theguardian.com/sport/2023/sep/26/englands-summer-reaches-farcical-end-with-odi-against-ireland-washed-out-cricket

Also points out the next men’s ODI is even later in September 2024. So expect another failure

At least display the substitutions on the big screen

We half heartedly did on Tuesday.
Of the triple sub, maybe 4 of the players had their details up but it wasn’t clearly shown who was on/off.
And at least put up the away team pre match and their subs on the screen as well since the audio is awful

Noticed today that Cumberland road has now fully reopened after about 3-4 years …the temporary traffic lights have gone and you can now drive the other way towards Bemmy bridge from the basin (past The Cottage pub) . That’ll give some relief to the A370 on the opposite side .

Nope. There’s a bus gate just past the SS Great Britain turning. So traffic for that end can still access it heading east but that’s it. Traffic remains on Coronation Road :)

  10. She was on Radio 5 Saturday covering the Southampton game - or at least the updates that get piped in to Chappers - so clearly she wasn’t on last night for just local radio “box ticking” and is regarded within BBC Sport. No issue with her being used on commentary or summaries for us or anyone else.

Sometimes people just take a side for other reasons than actual spoken content…

Apologies if I’ve missed something here, but why haven’t the club announced that Kalas has left?!

Obviously the club just have but it’s weird they have done it. Obviously he left months ago. I don’t see us having written similar stories for the others who’s contracts left, even those who took up other offers immediately?

  12. Ten pages to catch up. Lots of views.

SL isn’t the messiah and he isn’t a naughty boy either.

He has backed the club. He has developed the infrastructure that is around us to provide a great match day stadium & experience for two sports teams (just think about how many away fans come and compliment the fanzone).
Both clubs have superb training facilities.

He is planning to build an associated sports / entertainment arena next to Ashton Gate to further enhance the match day and non match day experience.

But we’ve had some misfires over the past few years in leadership and managerial appointments? We’re yet to reach the top flight under him but it is not as if we had extended spells in the top flight pre SL to leave us longing for past glories.

However - we are still moving towards being a financially stable club, mainly in control of all our facilities and even if we got relegated the club is stable enough to not crash & burn?

We aren’t the shambles of a club structure that half our division - or most of the lower leagues - are.

Yes - we’d like more but so many clubs misfire in achieving it and then are a complete shambles going forward. At least we aren’t exactly that shambles (yet…)
