  1. So is it a definite that City will travel up to Elwood Park and play on the 20th of June ??  My last City home match was on the 14th of December as i was back in the UK when my dad passed and we went down to Blackburn 2-0. It was the first time I sat in the Lansdown stand and it was the upper tier next to the press box.

The first match will bring back a few memories especially if i can watch it in OZ.

Lets hope the 2-0 is reversed this time.

Oxford University are now estimating that there’s 140,000 people in the uk infected with coronavirus which is 0.24% of the population, it could be that lockdown has brought that number down dramatically although that isn’t really reflected in the governments own data or it’s like how i said at the start that it started in November/December and that millions have already had it

It would be tragic if it’s the latter people would’ve needlessly lost their livelihoods while cases of mental health issues and domestic violence have rocketed

Obviously finding those 140,000 is like looking for a needle in a haystack but it does beg the question whether a vaccine is necessary

Agree a vaccine is necessary. I’m a bit concerned though that people posting they think they had the covet 19 in January are only making things worse. There is no proof of this. I had family visiting us in March and April in OZ and had basic flu symptoms, guess what they had the bloody flu after visiting the doctor.

there are some scaremongers on here that make things worse and not better. Lets please be positive.

  3. Davefes,

WA and NT are streets ahead of the other states and territories around reduction in numbers and wa only had one yesterday positive case in 7 days which was related back to an over sees traveler. NT nothing now for 3 weeks. Nationally the toll is still just under 100 of which 75 were traceable back to cruise liners visiting Australia. NSW and VIC are stil getting pockets around health centres and some wok places. In comparison to other countries around the world Australia are so lucky. I maintain contact with the family in the UK daily and you guys are all doing it tough.

    good luck

I know some on here don't like Daily Mail articles and I've certainly no love of their politics- but it IS good for Football League related news and Matt Hughes, good journo.

Slightly old news but surprise, surprise...

Adrian Bevington eh. A quick Google search confirms he's ex Aston Villa or at least was there in an advisory role in 2016- Grr!! That said he's from Middlesbrough, could just be bad journalism.

    How I dislike that club...

    Hi POP,

Hope you are doing well. I have been looking out everywhere and no sign of English prem in oz this year being played down under.  Any updates ??

in oz today the government implemented a 3 stage get back in regards to COVID and things are developing well. Restrictions are Still in place however easy to achieve the  government programme which includes AFL, NRL and Ozzie soccer will soon commence. Social distancing measures are changing with some states starting to open pubs and restaurants with limited numbers, parks open, swimming pools open. Interstate travel is still closed across Australia.

Not having a go at you mate just seems an unrealistic suggestion.

Perth is very safe at the moment with no cases 4 days straight. Even the total deaths across the country is only 90. OK 90 is still too many but in comparison to other countries its very low. Perth has some great stadiums like Davefes mentions. However the AFL and NRL are not far away playing again and in fact both these codes are all ready back in training all be it in isolated and controlled areas.

leeds united and Man united played at Optus stadium last year and were sold out. Liverpool the year before played at the MCG in Melbourne in front of 90,000.00.

There is no tourism so hence any football code would be welcome by all states and territories. Even if the Prem teams did play in Perth it would most probably be behind closed doors and even if some of the stadiums were to open and let limited numbers in the travel restrictions in place are very strict and you require a pass called a G2G which has your home address / quarantine address and the app which has to be scanned at the check points only approves you to drive in to or drive through an approved region so even if they did play who’s going to be able to watch them any way.

Taking aside the fact that the virus can be spread to vulnerable people, the disease isn't deadly to healthy young people. The number of cases are extremely rare where it is deadly to that bracket of people.

The strategy can't be to stay in lockdown until there's a vaccine, it's always been said its in order to stop the nhs becoming overwhelmed. That to me indicates that at a point in time it will be down to the public to make their own decision on whether they want to stay in self isolation, albeit there will certainly be some restrictions in place I would have thought.

Footballers I strongly doubt will be , or ever would have been, risking their lives by playing football any more than taking a decision to get on a bus or a plane to travel to a game in normal times.

All that being said football being played behind closed doors will fall into a bracket that will be within guidelines of acceptability as the nhs will be able to cope. I can see it being the case in the next month or two.

The real problem lies in public gatherings because that is far more likely to be deemed not necessary as it's getting high numbers of people in one place in close proximity to one another. I think from a sporting perspective it places far more doubt on next season at lower levels because it surely can't be sustainable to play behind closed doors and expect anywhere near the sort or income required. But then that is more a case of clubs folding with suppirting than being able to physically stage a behind closed doors game.

At the top level I certainly am not going to be paying for sky sports if they are showing behind closed doors games as it's fairly boring to watch, but I think a lot of people still would, but you'll likely be in a situation where premier league football can continue but professional football below that is not sustainable until such a time that high numbers of people can enter a ground. For me the value of watching city on a stream versus actually being at the ground is much less, I wouldn't pay 4/5/600 quid for a season of that willingly and I really do think that if I can't get to watch the remaining games of this season at the ground I'd want some money back.

I can conceivably see a situation where the 2020/21 premier league is viable but all other levels are not, certainly at August/September time.

From a sporting perspective I think that will be terrible as it creates a closed shop. I also think UEFA have acted terribly, rearranging the euros with a fixed date, telling leagues if you don't finish your season then we'll ban you from our competitions. They are only trying to protect their competitions rather than acting as a governing body and supporting every level of football in Europe instead of putting massive road blocks in the way of national bodies and leagues.

Disagree some what in regards to only the Prem. You will find that the lower leagues will go ahead before the Prem. The lower leagues where attendances 3K TO 12k would be easy to manage where prem with 30K plus gates is not going to happen unless behind close doors to 2021.

Do agree on the vaccine though.

The EUROS have not a fixed date to commence. The date is a preliminary date to discuss possible options on a way forward to plan.

By the way if you haven’t got SKY Sports you should.

Where are you getting your info from?

This season will just not matter (unless your in a position where you go up or down) I really think it should be cancelled and as soon as the PL  EFL do it the better. Now the club's are offering money to any cause going makes you realise this season should be erased

You never know what a couple of months will be. I agree some what probably cancel this season. However lets keep hoping as we will be stronger when all the recent events are over. If its not Prem football this year then it will be in 2021. Lets ride this out, look after your love ones, stay safe and  then lets look forward to the football.

to be honest Dave when the experts said the young fit and healthy wouldn't be affected what did they think the young fit and healthy were going to do. experts can be ***** too it's not an exclusive club.

It was reported that there were more than 300,000 people on Bondi Beach in Sydney on Saturday. If any of you know this famous beach it is not very big. The 300,000 people on the beach blatantly ignored the government warnings that a safe distance must be kept across all states and territories across Australia between all people. As of tomorrow NSW , Victoria and the ACT are planning to implement what you have now in the UK where only essential services and companies Iike supply chains, hospital staff, pharmacies, fuel stations can only open. I understand the restrictions now in place that were implemented over the past four days are difficult for all as my mum, sibling and my wife’s families are all in bristol or close by. Us in Australia will have the same in the next 48 to 72 hours. Our son and his family live in the Northern Territory of oz and the NT close their borders on Tuesday evening . On this note I leave you all with the best of luck over the next few months and look forward to all of us coming out of this. Family first. BCFC second.

Yep agreed and to be honest at the time I’d probably consider what my partner had as a “bad” cold rather than flu, but it did last much longer than usual.

Mine unfortunately was flu, like you say bed/sofa ridden for 4-5 days before I could even face stepping outside!

didnt realise the flu jab percentage was as low as that

The sister in-law visited us about 5 weeks ago from the UK. She stayed for about 3 weeks. When here we organized a winery tour which included about 5 wineries and a couple of micro breweries. The trip was a day trip and we were on a mini bus which was full. There was us 3 pomms, 6 x persons from Austria and 2 x Italians. 2 of the girls from Australia were a bit sick.

2 days after when I got home I started to feel hot/cold and fluey. I went to the quacks and have been on 2 x courses of anti-biotics and still not quite well. I have had this now for over 3 weeks.

it has been confirmed I have a flu virus. I also had the flu jabs this year as well.

Just sharing this information As the common flu is always around no matter where you are. However if you are run down and in the unlikely hood you do catch the Corona stuff and you already have the flu you will not have much chance of surviving.

I'm currently self isolating on the advice of my GP. Despite the fact im quite young and pretty fit I do feel like death, and I'd rather not give anything to someone who would seriously suffer with it.

I was told I'm not going to be screened because (despite showing all symptoms) I haven't been abroad at all, which puts paid to any idea I had of remaining NHS sensibility. There's 2 other people in buildings within 200yds of me also under isolation so I'm shit scared.

Hope you feel better soon and it all turns out to be something else. A city win on the weekend will cheer you up

Part of the problem is that people ARE being diagnosed with Coronavirus (as they have been since the 1950s) but very few are catching Covid-19 and everyone seems to be treating them both as the same when they are not.

Just like any other airborne bug you have to be within 6ft of an affected person for at least 15 minutes to catch the Coronavirus, but the sensationalist headlines and misleading news stories has put everyone into a panic

It's funny how there is next to no news reporting that new cases etc in the Chinese regions are dropping daily and the infamous hospital that was built quickly is now standing empty as it is not required.

Even the Italian "lockdown" is misleading as people were still working as normal yesterday

A work colleague has just returned from Europe and he spent a few weeks in Italy. Lets say he definitely got within 6ft of many woman on many occasions. He is fit as a fiddle and still smiling.

200 years ago we had the Black Plague (oops shouldn’t have said that) the Flu, Cancer, Heart attacks, also kills millions across the world every year and we still ain’t got needles for them have we. Ok  this new virus is highly contagious but lets see what happens over the next few months. I hope it doesn’t drag out like Brexit did.

Just reading this thread shows self-quarantine will never work in some sections of the community.

I dont think football matches in England will be played behind closed doors.

Look at China they seem to now be getting it under control a little. Italy will do the same and so will all the other countries around the world that have a decent health care systems . (Waiting now for the NHS critics)

Australia at the moment only have a hand full of cases and its under control.

There will obviously be  cases coming up in the UK. Apparently you have to have other chronic illnesses along with the Coronavirus to un fortunately kick the bucket..

I posted too soon. As of 0900 WAST time Australia are now implementing travel bans in to Australia from Italy, Korea and Iran. There are very large communities of Italians across Australia and most reside in the suburbs of Sydney and Melbourne, it is estimated there are over 135,000.00 of them in these two areas alone. There are thousands each week from Italy that fly in to Australia to stay with family friends.

The Italians cancelled all games in Lombardy and Veneto regions today including Inter vs Sampdoria to try and contain an outbreak of Coronavirus.

Unfortunately, it looks like the efforts to contain this virus globally have failed and it is only a matter of time until we get a major outbreak here. I suspect we could also see games being cancelled to try and contain any outbreak here.

This could be a big issue for the football authorities (as well as the NHS of course and the Government). If the season isn’t cancelled, I could see games being held behind closed doors.

This crops up every year and amazes me the difference between those who were there at the time so recall what happened and those younger who now lionize 8 'martyrs' who are nothing of the sort. I've previously referenced the excellent history of the PFA that covers our decline in detail, so worthy to recall the facts:

    The 8 were never "forced" to sign away their contracts or livelihoods, they tore nothing up, they mutually agreed to terminate their contracts voluntarily and in doing so were given (gratis) their registrations to trade. The fact they struggled to find careers at other clubs says more of them than the club;

    They didn't leave without compensation, the 8 shared circa £100k in compensation (a pretty sum in those days, not all of which was taxable.) In 1982 £12,500 would have gone a long way to buying a house in Bristol;

    The 8 could have held onto their contracts and become creditors and left with nothing - they didn't. Sadly, quite a few local suppliers to the club did go unpaid and it's to them we owe a debt - they got now't but grief from some fans. Remember, too, the other City employees who were laid off without compensation, save of nobody does appreciate their nameless sacrifice;

The fact few of the 8 went on to have further careers in football had everything to do with the fact they were either past it, not very good or both (which beggars why they were on such long contracts in the first place?)

Several were vocal and highly critical of the club and remained so for years afterwards, blaming many of their future ills and mistakes on this one event. Contrast the spate of redundancies around Bristol at the time, many associated with the decline of the docks and supporting industries with few of those impacted, including many City supporters, receiving nowhere near such level of support from their employers. It was therefore no great surprise the 8's initial 'testimonial' wasn't that well supported.

What happened to the 8 was deeply regretable, as was the impact on local creditors and the decline of the club, but the world didn't stop turning. The club exists wholly because of the actions of a few clever directors who saw a way forward and executed their plan. It's to them, not the 8, we owe thanks each week.

I was in my teens then and always remember the famous 8 that saved the club. Sweeney, Rodgers (what a great centre half he was) Aitken, Garland, Tainton ( great on the right wing) Jimmy Mann, Marshall and Sir Geoff our Captain. We do owe them big time

After Eliud Kipchoge's incredible achievement this morning, today is probably a good day to see how many runners we have on OTIB.

Do you run? If so, what have you done, what do you have planned?

    Let's talk running...

My quickest run was about twenty meters about ten years ago. We were at a remote location in the Northern Territory of Australia. One shop, one pub with a bottle shop. The locals are not allowed within 100 meters of the bottle shop for obvious reasons if you are aware of the indigenous communities in these remote locations. Usually the locals will approach you as soon as they see you with a green slab of beer on your shoulder (Victoria bitter cans) we walked out of the bottle shop one night the two of us waiting for them to approach and they didn’t. This was unusual and when we looked around we saw a croc about six feet long to the side of us. We ran like hell. I have never ran so fast in my life. Me and my mate drank the 24 stubbies between us afterwards.

I feel its a valid point & suggestion, a lot of pork on Otib tonight

Totally agree. English woman’s super league is getting stronger and stronger and does deserve some merits. I posted three months ago about the quality of a player playing for Perth glory and the Ozzie matildas team and her name his Sam Keer. Sammy is currently playing for Chelsea and if any of you get chance to google her the quality of her play is exceptional and it has even reported Chelsea paid a record fee to bring her from OZ to the uk.

If we had a mix gender team then what a partnership she would be with Fam. Now that’s another story for another day.?

  19. With Rovers top scorer out Johnson Clarke - Harris (what a mouth full ) and the loss at Bolton 2-0 I see the Rovers drawing a boring 0-0 today. Both are sitting mid way in the table and respectively Rovers on 21 points and Portsmouth on 16, I see this as a bit of an incorrect position similar to Stoke as I expect Portsmouth to be in with a shout near the end of the season.
