I think Nige is very guarded in post-match interviews from 1) saying something he’ll regret or get spun and 2) talking in a way the layman won’t understand.

So you get a something in the middle, that probably doesn’t really suit the audience.

Pre-match stuff when he gets asked a sensible question his answers are very insightful.

But do you want him to start talking, 6s and 8s, half-spaces, etc…I don’t.  And I don’t want box entries, POMO or bomb alley either.

I have no doubts that Nige isn’t a dinosaur, as portrayed by some.  That’s just a lazy, age related thing.

Just on your two overarching points at the beginning.
    1) I don’t want to be too judgemental with ad hominem comments but I think his guarded methodology is his way of controlling his anger

    2) Im not convinced that he is capable of more insightful analysis.

PS I still don’t believe he is a talented communicator/ motivator in the style of Klopp

  2. No I don’t want him talking ‘box entries’ or the like as I suggested in my comment about the Arteta style PowerPoint and to make that point you can’t have heard Eidevall’s comments as he didn’t say anything of that ilk.
You see,  his observations were in real time  so to speak and were aimed at improving play and the effectiveness of individuals. I don’t see that in Pearsons game management or substitutions for that matter.
In all management teams you have ideas people, logistics people, admin people, inspirational people etc.

He doesn’t strike me as an ideas person or an inspirational person. In my experience the task orientated leaders never succeed without being able to validate and inspire the team.

  3. Like millions of others I really enjoyed the fantastic performance of the England women’s team in the final of the European championship; and one of the additional upsides was the outstanding insights/punditry of Jonas Eidevall. Now, I didn’t know he was but the more I listened the more he impressed me with his razor sharp insights and tactical awareness. It wasn’t some PowerPoint type bullshit but really smart observations of how play was being and could be affected.

Now my point is that Ian Wright as co-pundit had nothing like this level of tactical intelligence , albeit having been a superb player. He was clearly impressed by Eidevall and was sometimes like a kid in a classroom listening to an engaging, new young teacher. Equally, Nigel Pearson doesn’t strike me as a person with this grasp of the game. Yes, he was a top defender but it doesn’t mean he can communicate, motivate or inspire. Of course Klopp was a defender who didn’t play at  the same level as Pearson.

when I hear Pearson interviewed to preview the game the same pattern unfolds. ‘Yeah important game, need to play consistently, some need to concentrate, some are letting us down. We need to play for 90 minutes. I’m employed by the club and we ain’t got no money and my loyalty is unquestioned

The post match interviews are the same. We are now getting the rueful chuckle, as if it’s really nothing to do with me… we should have played with consistency, some don’t concentrate, some let us down and we ain’t got no money. PS I’ll let you know when players are ready to return from injury so don’t be impertinent.

Yes, punditry is different from managerial tv interview but at no point do you sense that his love or passion for the game breaks through with illustrations of tactical intelligence, observations, new ideas.
My reading of it is that he just can’t do it.

I think  his appointment was seen as a way of reestablishing discipline, selling the idea of no money to the fans, creating the impression of a safe pair of hands. A No nonsense disciplinarian.

I don’t think it’s working. I hope he proves me wrong for the sake of BCFC who I have supported since 1968.

Whilst some might criticise the Lansdowns, I think it’s fair to say that he’s invested too much of his own cash and emotion to let the club go to some car crash ownership. He’s a businessman from an environment where due diligence is key, I would be amazed if let the club go without ensuring that the new investors a) had the backing, and b) were in it for the right reasons.

Did you not live through the financial crash. Due diligence my arse Barbara

Could do with a defensive midfielding bully , who breaks play up is aggressive and gives it simple  , and not no 5ft 5 player someone in the mild of a Marvin Elliot type player / physique.

that would then give us some sort of platform to go forward , where we are half decent , but you can’t keep conceading  week in week out .

We e never really replaced Gerry Gow. Best in the business

I for one am sick of this view that all opinions are equally valid. THEY ARE NOT.
Everyone has the right to an opinion, but if they are spouting nonsense they need to be called out. That’s how we’ve ended up with Brexit, Trump, Anti -vaxxers etc.

You have an agenda against Pearson and have taken the opportunity to peddle lies and half truths if they support your view. Your opinion is blinkered and you are starting to be called out by a number of posters that I respect. I can get behind that.

I think you are conflating the right to have an opinion with the validity of the opinion as you judge it

This forum at times resembles some sort of bizarre online Truman Show-esque surreal universe.

Every time we lose a game we get the same nonsense (Pearson out, Holden didnt lose this many, not improved…. Blah blah blah) from a cross-section of “fans”, who, with every knee-jerk, poorly thought out, shallow and utterly basic statement, show themselves up with a complete lack of understanding of where our club is, the project that Pearson is having to undertake, and the shambles of mis-management and ruin that he inherited.

Buckle in, support them all and look bigger picture and long-term. We are not going down this year.

Anyone can see that whilst we have issues, we are building, and I look forward to calling out some of the absolute tripe from some on here in a year or so. Every club has them, but we seem to be populated with more fans lacking any sort of football nous or intellect than is bearable.

Please don’t try to be a voice of reason and patronise the rest  of us. We are entitled to an opinion even if it offends your delicate sensibility and superior football nous

That whole Football manager comment is such a poor addition to your statement, it's just trying to add weight to your opinion which isn't needed as it's a valid opinion to begin with. No, it's not football manager, but Pearson brought Cundy on the other day which would suggest he's of the opinion he can play at this level. Has he played a lot? No, but how will he ever play if he's not put in the team? How will he ever make his place without a chance? The fact is Vyner has been responsible for yet another goal today and it's certainly not the first time he's been a factor in conceding this season. Pearson may know his players but I feel his desire to play Vyner is to raise his confidence because Vyner has the technical ability but lacks confidence, the issue is that his confidence isn't going up and he's still making mistakes. I would much rather have a young, hungry player like Cundy on the pitch than a center back lacking confidence and who is making silly mistakes on a regular occasion?

    Spot on
