No, you looked for a reason to be pedantic. I purposely chose not to use the word "wrecked" and "totalled" is a completely justified choice of words.

"THEY" is what I have a complaint with. you said "THEY wrecked it". If you want pedantry. be pedantic about every word.

Yeah I'm not sure £15 million is very irrelevant to the two clubs. It's not your money so of course you'd feel it's meaningless.

Now if someone bought a car from you, they'd got the car and were now refusing to give you the money because they were 'checking the paperwork' because they'd totalled it, would it be so irrelevant?

That logic implies that CCFC were involved in the crash. Which they were obviously not.

    Here's what basically happened:

    - In the last 12 months or so of Higgs' reign at Rovers the club looked at ways they could make UWE happen. These included plans/inquiries in regard to providing residential accommodation at both the UWE site and at the Mem in order to make the scheme viable. Problem is partners were needed for these schemes, so they were far from straightforward and the value of the Mem for residential was considerably less than what Sainsbury's were willing to pay. It is my impression that once these options were exhausted Higgs decision was made to sell up and he was looking for a buyer months before Wael eventually came in.

    - I do not know how Higgs sold the UWE project to Wael, though I expect a rather more positive spin was put on it than should've been. Remember the appeal to the courts was still being processed at this time. How much Higgs divulged in terms of the fact they had already looked at pretty much all possibilities of making it happen I don't know. But anyway, what is clear is that Wael soon found out there was a rather large hole in the funding of the project and instead of saying "no problem guys, I've got this!" he went on a number of business trips (like going to watch his beloved Chelsea!)  to see if he could find OTHER PEOPLE willing to invest in the project and basically pick up the tab left by Sainsbury's deserting the project. Amazingly, there were no takers.

Now, I have been out of the loop for sometime so don't know what the absolute latest is but the long and short of it appears to be that unless Wael (or his family or whatever) are willing to dip into their pockets to the tune of £20m-odd then it simply won't be going ahead. I have heard some say that UWE may help contribute to the costs for some kind of benefit - NOT going to happen! UWE already have the naming rights for the lifespan of the stadium AND are gifting Rovers the land! What else could this project possibly offer them? Despite being a charity UWE are a shrewd operator when it comes to making money and they ain't gonna piss money away just to help Rovers out.

I suspect Rovers could start the build before next January if they really wanted to but likelihood of it happening is slim to nothing as far as I'm concerned. Have heard NOTHING to suggest it's going ahead.

Either way they'll simply have to make an announcement by September I'd say. Will be interesting. If Wael isn't going to fund UWE, you have to wonder what he is willing to fund as a new site is going to cost a lot more than UWE and a redevelopment of the Mem similarly very pricey - must be looking at £20m ish and it's heavily constrained in planning terms. They're looking at 18k capacity max there.

I'm sure there's a certain Jersey-based entrepreneur that could lend them a few bob.

  4. We cannot fulfil promises made either this coming summer or the last one with a season loan. That much was obvious last year and we did set to rectifying that.  Huge sums were spent  (And paid back with the Kodge sale) but the players that cash was spent on lost confidence far too soon and just about all of them didn't have the confidence paid back to invigorate them, rightly or wrongly. A bit more patience with any one of the lineup experiments a month sooner and things could have been more comfortable near the end, the nut is that when LJ pretty much spells out that none of the fringe guys are safe regardless of how they play, why should they care?

Can't see a negative keeping the gap to 4 points with other sides below us.

It should have been 7. It was going to be 7. Until we did the Bristol City thing again.

I think it has to be good enough for anyone, do the over a season and we'd be where Brighton are now.

See above and contemplate how insane what you've just said sounds.

As a team what have BCFC collectively learned? Most of the horrors between October and February were decided on a single goal. As was today. Don't concentrate on the IFs, take a look at what we have - a team that's gone from fodder to a threat in a few weeks but needs to be ruthless in far shorter time. The BS at the back has to stop. It's had to stop all season.

Tbf 4 points ahead with 9 available is a position most would have given their right arm for around 3-4 weeks ago.

That tells us nothing. I would have been delighted to go 3-3 against Derby before that game, but I was fuming that we were 3-0 up at half-time!!

If we don't beat Barnsley than that will be a massive kick up the arse to Blackburn's morale whether they beat Wolves or not. My nerves would rather have Villa at home than Brighton away to contend with.

    We've gained MASSIVE ground.

No, we haven't. It's still 4pts, and it's only gone from 4pts with 15 available to 4pts with 9 left. And I would be far more comfortable needing to get the job done vs Barnsley at the Gate in front of our white-hot crowd, than vs Brighton at their place with their white-hot crowd.

Really? If we lost it would been bedlam on here. Draw is fine.

We have gained no ground away from the zone. We could have, and should have been in a position to make Blackburn need maximum points from their last three games. Now if we don't win against Barnsley on Saturday we need to go to the champions-elect needing to do better.

In spite of our recent run this has been yet another game of too many where we let in one goal when we should have killed the game.

  9. Club Statement:  Bristol Rovers erratically deny the rumour that Adam Drury has left us because he was under the mistaken impression that he was going to be joining Bristol City FC. We repeat our earlier announcement that he has left for personnel reasons.

    Even grammar hates the Gas.
