  1. I wonder what the all time record for consecutive promotion followed by relegation seasons is. Rotherham currently on 5 yo yo seasons and top of the league as it stands.
  2. Steve has struggled at bringing in the right football brains to get the club to the big time but on the infrastructure he has definitely delivered (I seriously doubt Wael can and will ever do that). In my view we could do a hell of a lot worse than Lansdown but financial constraints/squad rebuild mean the future outlook doesn't look great right now. Championship is a stacked league of evenly matched teams and I think sometimes very average chairmen get lucky to get a promotion but BCFC have never had things come together in that way. For every Watford, Burnley and Brentford currently in the prem there is a Forest, Sheff Weds and Ipswich who have potential but have done bugger all for 10-20 years. As for the Gas they are serial underperformers too, I think with a new stadium they could easily be an established championship club on the scale of Millwall or Preston who every year have a small chance of having a good season and being in the play off mix, Barton has a point here but all Bristol City/Rovers managers recognise the potential but none have managed to get their clubs to the next level for a very long time.
  3. I wonder if more electric cars will really mean more demand in general and therefore higher household electricity costs for everyone. One big problem with ending fossil fuels is a less diverse energy network, and I can't see the transition not being painfully costly for many. I am quite fortunate to live close to a bus route that is convenient for Ashton Gate, even though I am pretty pro car in general I got the bus to one game and it worked very well and will probably do the same on Saturday too.
  4. Think it's a good calculated risk by Gerrard, Rangers were fantastic last season but don't look like equalling their points tally this season or how far they got in Europe. Villa are underachieving in the prem too despite losing Grealish. Premier league is the deep end compared to the SPL but I believe he has picked a good club and will be hard seeing him get a better offer come along anytime soon, especially if his Rangers record looks more average in future. Shame that Celtic and Rangers have become stepping stones for mid table prem clubs because they are both massive clubs but money talks. ? I wonder if Gerrard has enough experience to look any better than the likes of Ole, Lampard, Arteta etc (the good players, average managers club). If a clubs doesn't want to compete with their rivals financially for a couple of seasons then I see these type of appointments being made, will be interesting to see if Villa spend to take them to the next level or not.
  5. Definitely makes him stand out, you can see other footballers like Lingard and Bellerin getting into the fashion business and DCL has a massive social media following so it's easier to get more views. In an age where we also have Marcus Rashford playing the philosopher in google adverts it seems that more footballers want side gigs away from their primary income.
  6. Saw interview with Warnock on the FL show after the Boro game last weekend when he already said he was off, was interesting that he said that he hadn't given him enough in the transfer window and also that Gibson had taken a back seat and that it wasn't good for the club. You might say that is similar to City right now and also why would he want to come here when there is no money to spend, I think this is completely unrealistic myself but would be interesting if it did happen.
  7. 19th place but only 6 points off the play offs, I mention this because it goes to show that after the top few teams how evenly matched and bang average things are in the championship. Birmingham game was dire and there are some troubling signs from recent games, if James is out then I see that being a big problem for the way we play too. However there are lots of examples of clubs above 19th having bad runs for 5 or 6 games already this season and I am hoping that the situation isn't quite as hopeless as it looks right now. The nature of the championship is there are usually lots of winnable games around the corner.
  8. Barnsley are on awful form so based on that it really should be a home win. Should have beaten Forest to be fair and if one of those other chances had gone in then it probably would have been. Hoping it's not a cagey game today where we are waiting for a long time to carve out chances but as long as its a win we will take it.
  9. Not having a match day income has screwed up the balance of a league which was already dysfunctional. According to this article Championship clubs are spending a lot less on transfers than they were a couple of years ago, premier league transfer fees (not the net spend just the money going out) were down 9% and 11% in the past 2 seasons but championship clubs were down 38% and 64%. https://www2.deloitte.com/uk/en/pages/press-releases/articles/premier-league-clubs-spend-1-1-billion-in-summer.html
  10. I really liked the documentary Louis did on alcoholism, seemed very real to me. For people who like murder documentaries I would put forward this... Really shocking but also unintentionally hilarious at times, doubt there is a documentary out there with more footage of the trial plus interviews with victims parents and the accused.
  11. Goal against the run of play and a little fortunate but great to see Scott get one. Going to be tense second half if it stays 1 goal in it.
  12. Interesting starting xi, not sure if it will work or not but will soon find out. Hopefully it's 17th time lucky ?
  13. Has been some turnaround for Forest since letting go of Hughton, I don't like to see clubs who do a 180 in results after getting rid of a manager do that well. But definitely a tricky time to be playing them so not confident of ending the winless run. Hoping there will be much more attacking than there was on Saturday, might be a good game to give Alex Scott some more minutes.
  14. Should the FA really be expected to have power over what members of the public say more so than serious security breaches at their events?
  15. If it was me I would bring out a yellow or green shirt every so often as the club have had those in their history before, would be interesting to see how they sell compared to at least the 5th purple and lime shirt in 8 years or whatever it is. As for the style of suits I am thinking very 80s Miami.
  16. For me probably the 1-0 loss to Rovers in the JPT, got trashed for months in school over that game. I spoke to somebody at work about them going to the 3-0 loss in 1990 which sounded far worse to be fair.
  17. Strange that Scotland have played Israel 5 times in the last 13 months and that was the first time they have beaten them if you don't include on pens. In the play offs I think if they met Switzerland or Sweden they would lose, as there are semi finals and a final stage their best bet is winning 2 close games against the likes of Poland, Serbia, Ukraine, Czech/Wales which is unlikely but not impossible. I would put their chances of qualifying for Qatar at around 10% but we will see.
  18. Have never been to Newcastle but I was always under the impression that they are a massive club. For me they are without doubt in the top 10 biggest in England and arguably higher, appreciate what people have said about early 90's and going there but I don't believe that's a fair reflection looking at the numbers over time... http://european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/league/newu.htm Obviously they are pretty shite at winning trophies but I think some are extremely harsh to say they are on a par with the likes of Ipswich, just my opinion. It's a sad state of affairs when people celebrate being sold off to the highest bidder and value that above the lack of humanity of the owners. Personally I would rather stay in the lower leagues forever than be sold off to Saudi's but I have no doubts they will be up challenging for trophies soon. I wonder if the Premier league title will soon become Saudi Arabia vs Abu Dhabi which in many ways is pretty depressing to think about.
  19. I really liked it, enjoyed the storyline this time unlike Spectre and yes it was long but thought it was a good way for Craig to go out. Didn't mind the villain that much but maybe that's just because I really liked his old style lair and not because the character particularly stood out. Was concerned with all the delays in production but no it was very good watch and Lynch wasn't unbearable like I had feared.
  20. Donuts are forever You only lunch twice Marsraker Octoslushpuppy (a bit of a stretch this one)
  21. Don't mind paying a tenner to watch the stream after really enjoying the game last Saturday. If I'm honest I'm not expecting to enjoy this one quite so much but it's going to be interesting to see if they can put in a strong performance again, after so many players collapsing to the floor on full time it could be a challenge and hopefully not having Pearson there won't have an effect. Would be impressed if they get a result at the Den tonight since they have done quite poorly against Millwall in recent seasons.
  22. Tried to park the bus after getting smashed on the weekend but it backfired. They are on a bad run but I think he has a few more games to turn it around and he will. Was looking for their goals tonight and stumbled across this...
  23. Wow I was expecting a slow start from Usyk like the Chisora fight.
  24. Can see this one being either a 1-1 draw where we defend very well or Fulham are too strong for us and we get stuffed. On paper the toughest game of the season so far and after they lost last week they are going to be up for it.
