  1. As avoidable and foreseeable this uncertainty was [in sacking Nige], I genuinely don't think we can associate Ashton Gate and toxic in the same sentence.Sure, we may get the odd chorus of boos and the like, but if ever there were a time, it would/should've happened after Nige was sacked.

The gate feels very vanilla and flat nowadays, with little of the sparkle or magic I remember growing up - it could just be I'm old and cynical, granted. However, it was that magic that built my life-long passion for the club - what entices the new generation to attend [and their parents to fork out]?

Dare I say it, it feels like the majority have been beaten into submission and reluctantly accept the club is distant, despite tokens such as the Robins Foundation. It all just feels clinical.

Sorry, rant over and I signed up to this torture for life!

"Lansdown" is a suitable name for the two idiots (currently) in control of our club.

With these ego-maniacs at the helm, the only place we're going to land is down.

Where's "Landsup" when you need him?

    Landsend [sic] hopefully

Conway looked like he didn’t even wanna be there. Tanner is so bad. Need about 4/5 signings in jan

To be fair to Tanner, he was often left with an impossible decision; push up in to the mass of space in front of him and leave a big gap in his area of responsibility, or play it safe and reserved. Either way, I was looking at Weimann and expecting him to provide more options out wide as opposed to tucking in.

100% - sums it up. And if that is what football IS these days -tippy tappy Russell Martin style - if that's what the new chap wants us to play, well I can't see me bothering in future. It's so dull to watch even when done well. If that was what football had been back in the day I'd never have gone in the first place!

Have to say I agree. The very brief burst of intensity is largely drowned out by literal stand-still with the ball at feet, or at best sideways-backwards-sideways.

As for those goal kicks shared between defenders and Max, we’d be better off cutting to the point and just hoofing it upfield to the opposition, it’s how it mainly ends up.

I thought I'd read somewhere that Tommy was called up to Scotland U21s, but just checked on the Scots FA site and it appears he hasn't been...

“The squad is boosted by the return of captain Josh Doig who missed the last camp through injury, and by the return of striker Tommy Conway. The Bristol City forward, who has also captained the Under-21s in the past, sat out the last two camps through injury.”

  6. So, Nigel was a Manager, as stated on bcfc.co.uk - 22 Feb 2021Bristol City have appointed Nigel Pearson as manager.

LM appointed as a Head Coach.

It’ll be exactly the same as Nigel Pearson,” Tinnion told Bristol Live. “Do you think we signed players for Bristol City that Nigel Pearson didn’t want? So why would we do it for Liam? Liam will be in the process, we’ll cut the shortlist when we want a certain player.

"Once we had gone for ‘the head coach’ and not manager, you want really a young, up-and-coming, on-the-grass, develop the players, develop the style; so once we had narrowed it down to what we wanted, he was one that came out straight away, really high,” Tinnion added. "

Can someone clarify for me, don't managers identify their targets and the club tries to get them?
Are managers generally not as involved in transfers as they once were?  Is the only difference between Manager and Head Coach about what goes on on the training pitch?

    Just curious over the wording.

The questions were weak and JL looked terrified.

Didn’t he just. JL’s articulation matched his appearance.

What I so wanted was a double camera view on JL and LM’s faces when JL attempted to answer the question about funds for signings in January! 🍿

Frustration over NP being sacked is not an excuse for arrogance and snobbery over an incoming manager

Arrogance? I'd not go that far.

Snobbery, we all hold our club in the highest regard, so many will be minded to think their club is superior and want what they perceive as someone who matches their ambitions and necessary experience for the role.
The club was heading in the right direction even if it was slow progress, but the primary cause for that was the circumstances of the journey (clearing out dead wood, lowering wage bill, blooding youngsters).

As much as you emphasise words on a forum of "arrogance" and "snobbery", the person eventually tasked with the job will have the support, the people who put them there less so.

I quite like seeing variety in debate and opinion, it's what makes the forum vibrant and insightful.

There's so much snobbery on here over Manning.

His points per game over his career is about 1.62, a total that over a season would be about 50% chance of getting to the playoffs.

A near 50% win rate at all clubs he's managed.

He's not managed in the Championship? OK, he's 38 for ***** sake, are you expecting him to have just walked straight into a Championship or Premier league side as his first job? The ones that do that are the exceptions usually because they were a big name as a player (Lampard, Rooney) but neither of them have been particularly good as managers, and I'd far rather give Manning a try than either of those.

Snobbery maybe, but I'd argue it's more frustration that we are in this predicament when we already had - what many perceive as - the right man in place in NP.

We will have to get behind whoever it is, but it doesn't mean you have to like it or can't contrast/compare what we had with what we may have.

  10. If BT has his way, Frank becomes FrankTINstein.

In all seriousness, really not sure what we need now, the change felt unnecessary and a backward step.

Little faith that whoever the board pick will suddenly change results and performances whilst operating in the restraints NP faced - but will happily be proven wrong and naturally back whoever it ends up being.

So no proven experience of getting out of this division? It bodes well that Birmingham City were gutted he left but just looks like LJ2 to me.

Yep, seems we have a limited calibre in what we are looking for in a head coach… not sure he has the experience needed to ride the inevitable storms and dips in form.

Then again, it feels as though whoever it is has been set up with their independence of thought and manoeuvre already limited from the get-go. Whoever it is, we will have to back, but it’s a sad state of affairs we are in this position.

I think @Davefevs has absolutely nailed it. Going forward this is all on Tins.

Tinnion was employed initially as loans manager and later as academy manager with the specific brief of preparing the youth to play in the first team. That meant ensuring he worked closely with the manager to understand what the first team were doing.

Now, on his latest promotion he has become defacto first team director of football and has dictated the style of play from top to bottom. Both Tinnion and Junior have spoken about a single style of play throughout the club. It's clear to me that is "their" style and not the first team managers choice.

I fully agree with the comments regarding the next appointment. It will be a young coach who will do as they're told and stick purely to coaching matters. He'll get what he's given in the transfer market and have to work with that.

We are set for LJ mark 2.

No doubt the board have looked across to Suffolk and seen Ashton do exactly what he did at City and bring in a coach with no managerial experience, flood the team with Ashton signings and see the team win promotion and go on to sit in second place.

Who wants to bet that defeat at home to Ipswich was the final straw.

If this plan fails which I'm terrified it will, we are truly ******.

Almost makes you think BT should be in the hot-seat, given his management and tactical wisdom. Oh, wait.

Nothing against BT the rightful club legend [as a former player], but as a Technical Director, he's clearly a one-focus man - play the youth. Laughable that the footballing side is now being ran with glued-on rose-tinted glasses.
