We should be in for him. Makes football sense + it would be another Matty Taylor moment, which was to be fair a fantastic day

His address would be out before you could say red faced lady garden, and the threats would start. It would be hilarious though if he did come here, but cannot see that happening whatsoever.

It's relevant because this whole argument revolves around whether moving from Chelsea Women to FGR men is a step up or a step down, which is a valid discussion point and is not being helped by some people immediately jumping on others with accusations of sexism and bigotry for expressing an opinion on that point.

I for one hope she is given the opportunity and does a great job, for me the move would be a step down in terms of club history/acheivements etc but a step up in quality of players, speed and power of the game and so on.

Of course it is relevant, but that sensible post won't work on here. Any criticism is straightaway linked to some sort of "ism" nowadays. Always the same people losing their shit and labelling people as well, they seem to think it helps their point when they start the name calling - just have a holier than thou attitude, and generally an angry, bullying mentality.

I saw this random tweet about it someone I follow that supports them retweeted:

So some Newcastle fans think he is already Premiership ready, Howe wants him to go to the Championship on loan (reports suggest), as he also thinks extremely highly of the lad, but he's knocked about in League 2 for a few months and "Barton is getting the best out of him"? I expect he could have played at 50% and could have stood out in that awful League.

He's been doing this for at least 4 games - were you all up in arms when Mansfield beat them 4-0?  That result affected the promotion race.

Definitely not, as it was a totally different team to what played your mob on Saturday. For starters they had their main keeper in goal against Mansfield and not some 17yr old, plus 6 other changes on Saturday to that team.

Is there any reason you still force away fans to sit on seats that are wet because you won't build a roof?

A Rovers fan trying to take the pee out of another ground. You couldn't make it up.

Have you built away fans some toilets yet? Running water? Disabled stand? Proper seating rather than patio chairs in certain parts?

I presume that you protested very publicly about the signing of Danny Simpson at the time?

Many fans were against the signing, and tbf many Rovers fans were against Barton becoming manager. The main difference being that many players have been charged with many things over the years, and in my opinion it is certainly different than employing a convicted criminal to be your manager, who is basically the public face of your club. He had already been done multiple times for violence, banged up, fighting on a stag do on a beach wasn't it, stubbing a cigar in a younger players eye, and he also had the Barnsley manager case already hanging over him (pretty obvious what happened there to all), multiple red cards and bans for violence, just to name a few.

Yet after all of that your owner with (who must have had some sort of amnesia when he appointed him), then comes out with the beauty "we stand firmly against any form of violence" and anyone convicted of such offences "would be dismissed immediately".

Obviously I realise all of this, but quite what that has to do with what I said I have no idea. A good team is a good team, regardless of division. I'm not saying we would beat Real Madrid, but we are- or were- a 4th division team and in that context we are a good team.  Were Terry Coopers team, or Steve Cotterell's team not good sides? Your Gas mates maybe talking of a second promotion, I certainly haven't been.

He has been outstanding, we simply will not be able to replace him with a player of similar quality.

They were good teams if you take it in context, I heard many City fans say the Cotterill season was excellent and exciting etc, but hardly "outstanding and possibly best footballing side ever seen in City shirts", unlike your "best footballing side I have seen in 49 seasons". If that truly is the case then, I think it shows you how shockingly bad you have been and how poor your recruitment has been (worse than ours). All your fans can say it's been turned around etc, but it is amazing how many think it is some sort of massive achievement - it really isn't. Playing half decent easy on the eye football is nice to watch, but against the likes of Barrow, Oldham, Rochdale, Scunthorpe, Harrogate etc etc. A League won by Forest Green (what is their budget in comparison to yours), and just 3 points above a Swindon side who never even had a team a few weeks before the season kicked off.

Anyway, we will see how good your Manager and team is next season, in the League he got you relegated from, against a few bigger clubs. If it starts like this season you could be in big trouble.

When JB took over they were near the bottom and he said he would take them up ….I said at the time that if he did I’d eat my car … …anyone got a knife n fork?

As much as it pains me to say it …well done to him and the horse punchers .

He didn't take them over when they were near the bottom of League Two, they were in the League he just got them promoted to after taking them down (when outside of the relegation places by 8 points I think).

I would point out btw, Rovers didn't just get promoted because of the win yesterday. They have been absolutely outstanding this year, quite possibly the best footballing Rovers team I have seen in my 49 seasons of watching. We are light years behind City in terms of infrastructure and probably a good distance behind you on the pitch-,although I seriously would give the team yesterday a good chance of beating anyone in a one off.

There was no conspiracy or untowardness yesterday, just a very good team getting a fully deserved promotion. Sometimes you just have to say 'fair play', although I get that many would just want to think it rather than say it out loud!

You do realise who you have actually been playing against this year don't you? You do realise it is/was the bottom League? You do realise how many players were brought in? You do realise you were second favs to win the bloody thing don't you?

I just cannot understand where, or even why, all of this nonsense comes from. I have mates who said "Joey is special (no jokes here) and building us to do great things", and talking of promotion next season. Now you may well be better than you were 12 months ago, which isn't too difficult, but jeez get some perspective on what has actually been achieved - a League Two promotion!! Now if you do extremely well next season and Barton hasn't got sacked if he gets a guilty verdict, then maybe he is do something right, but to listen to some of the nonsense over the last few months from my Gas mates has truly been laughable.

  9. Scunthorpe had 7 teenagers in their side last week as well, Hartlepool who hadn't won in 8 managed 23 shots against them. They are just woeful.

Let the Rovers have their fun for a few weeks, they will have a shock next season not playing against utter shite week in week out, and without their better players from this season.

Football fans have always been a fickle lot. Were you around in the early 80s? City considered 6k a decent attendance.

Of course they are, but many clubs' fans don't claim to have some sort of superior fanbase that everyone loves, that when they go away they take more than everyone else, and they have to ask other fans who they prefer out of the Bristol clubs, oh and the old "if they play in the street, we'll watch them from the pavements". Or make up actual figures of how many went to Wembley or certain away games, which has now rubbed off as the actual truth on their criminally convicted manager. All of it is complete and utter bullsh1t. The great thing is they have already been promoted by their fans and their manager guaranteed promotion, plus it is hardly some sort of magnificent achievement to get them back to the league they were in when he took them over.

Definitely gave as good as he got, he had opportunity to let go and carried on

Not sure it's worthy of a fine for the clubs, there's been far worse incidents on a football pitch even just in terms of disgraceful "tackles"

Better comparision would be Man City and Atletico Madrid?

    This 100%

Can the clubs appeal, and bring in a load of video evidence to support it and simply say "what about this one", "what about this", "what about this shocking challenge that led to......"??

An absolute disgrace to get fined for this, and I'd hope both clubs have a go back at the FA for obvious double standards.

None of the three are playing each other. If you’re talking about Exeter, they already secured promotion last night and can’t be caught. Northampton could draw with Exeter and beat Barrow which should be enough, unless the sags make up seven or more goals over two games. Possible but unlikely. Mansfield look to have the hardest fixtures with two games against teams with all to play for.

Apologies, I meant teams around each other and more likely to drop points somewhere. Exeter will surely be looking at going up as Champions now, they are the form team of the division, but hopefully they have a hangover Saturday or a few think the job is done. Northampton could draw and beat Barrow, but Scunthorpe are that bad then I can see that goal difference actually turn around. Although Northampton could draw Saturday and also beat Barrow by a few which would mean no chance. I still see the Sags winning both of their games and getting top 3, but hope I'm wrong, and hopefully they don't beat Rochdale and that puts an end to the top 3.

Well and truly out of their hands now. I’m pretty convinced they are gonna win both of their last two games but they need three teams to drop points now.

A few tough games for others around them and a couple playing each other as well. Their goal difference could even be turned around as well against Scunthorpe on the last game if others drop theirs. I think if they win both they will be up, as I think Northampton will drop points against Exeter Saturday. Will be surprised if the others win both of their games too.  I would love to be wrong though.

Northampton have Exeter H, Barrow A

Mansfield have Salford A, Forest Green H

Port Vale have Newport H, Exeter A

Defence has improved but over the last 10 games we have still conceded the fifth most in the league

I think it’s too simplistic to say if we sort the defence then we will be challenging.  If we sort the defence then it may well mean having more men behind the ball and thus less potency on the break

With our previous good away form, it was said that all we needed to do was improve our home form. We did but our away form was then awful.

    5th most?

Over the last 10 games we have conceded 14.

Brum 19, Reading 18, QPR 17, Barnsley 16, Coventry 15, Posh15, Swansea 15 and Derby have conceded the same as us.

Over last 8 games we have conceded 10, which would have 10 teams to have conceded more than us and 4 with the same number.

At the time of posting this I think we’ve given away 25 points from winning positions (trusting Sky punditry).
We will always let SOME leads slip or there would be no score draws, but 25 points is a lot. With those points we’d be 3rd on 77 (ok as I said we would have dropped SOME of them anyway)
Looking at the league table, we have been scoring quite well - 57 goals - more than Sheffield U (56) - and only QPR have scored more (58) outside the top 5.
So, on goals scored we are 7th in the league. The reason we are where we are is our defence.
we’ve been better of late - and if we get it sorted for next season there’s no reason why we can’t be up there around the top 6.

How many points have we got from losing positions, I think you need to take them into account as well. We were behind against Cardiff, Millwall and Barnsley but won, expect there are a couple of draws as well.

As Miah has already said, the "holier than thou" stance from either side is ridiculous.

Miah was having a pop at a poster because the poster rightfully said "Rovers acted disgracefully" - which they did imo. Feel free to say they didn't and defend what they done at the time, that's fine. If you think your club done everything correctly then please point it out. If anyone wants to point out and have a go at what our board done at the time then feel free to, but don't expect anyone not to come back with some of the shocking things your club has done over the years.

Miah then went on to say "Yeh okay (patronising much), you don't think the board at the time might have been ever so slightly guilty of running the club into the ground and shitting on their own players? City have done a great PR job lately of promoting the Ashton Gate 8 as heroes, when in reality they were treated like shite - and feel free to ask any of those 8 how a fair few City fans turned on them. Not many people come out of the 1982 debacle with much credit, but this rewriting of history painting Rovers as the bad guys is utter nonsense".

Maybe Miah should have a look in the mirror, or maybe you can have a word with him with his own "holier than thou" stance. It seems to me he is basically saying "your lot is worse than our lot".

What should the board have done back then in your opinion, just fold?

Oh no, a few fans turned on some players. That wouldn't happen from your fans would it.... At least you let players leave your club showing class, with no hatred or vitriol, or sing songs about having a party when they die...

What did your board try and do exactly when we were about to go under for good back then? Treat our club a bit shitty?

Did they support the Council helping us out? Act all shitty?

Also what did your board do to the Rugby Club exactly? Be extremely shitty?

  19. If they hadn't had the Newcastle player on loan they wouldn't even be in the picture for promotion from League 2. So if they do manage to go up, and without him next season, they will certainly struggle imo. I suppose at least they will be in their shiny new stadium by then as that must be opening soon....

As I posted earlier - there’s no longer a bookies in Nailsea and I don’t do online betting.

You have an absolute certainty, you can at least triple your stake, but just couldn't be bothered to go to another bookie. I'd be driving as far as needed to get the money on myself, it's pretty simple stuff if you are going to then pick up a load of hard cash, on such a certainty. Or just ring up a mate who will either be close a bookies shop, or indeed do it online for me. Surely one of your mates could have got plenty on in one of the shops in Horfield? Just saying....

    Not ‘aftertiming’ just common sense.

Two evenly matched teams, both full of very classy players fighting it out all season to win the PL with nothing between them.

It was bound to be a draw just as it was at Anfield.

Yet bookies were probably offering 5/2 for something that was a certainty to be a draw, and you didn't bet it and make a fortune. Very strange.

The game had a draw written all over it but our local bookie BetFred closed a couple of weeks ago and I really don’t like online betting so never put a tenner on the draw. Short odds I imagine.

Great bit of aftertiming there, I seemed to have missed your post throughout the whole game saying it would be a draw, straight after full time it was obvious!! It should have been game over by HT, Man City could have easily been 3 in front.

Cash outs - the best thing invented by bookmakers, to make them more money and literally rip off punters. Never take them would be my advice, in the long run they will cost you money.
