Sunderland at home match day thread
RudiRed replied to Jerseybean's topic in The Havanatopia Match Day Archive
Conceding 3 and could have been more - little progress made - yes we had decent chances ourselves but top teams don't conceed chances like we do. Starting to lose faith. -

Get the impression that we weren't in for him. -

Based on today we have little option but to sell and use the returns for some players - relegation fodder otherwise. -

Don't think we have many other options in midfield. -

We have 3 of the most immobile cms in the league in King James and Williams along with a headless chicken in Massengo. It is very concerning. -

Midfield is the problem for me, Williams looks like his legs have gone. -

While it certainly isn't a "must win" game, I do think it is important otherwise we run the risk of falling into the same trap as last season. We need momentum and we need to start making progress, we did towards the end of last season, be very disappointing if we cannot build on that. -

Yes rated Neil Danns - from what I can remember we wanted to sign him permanently but he wanted to remain I'm the North West. -
I don't find ladies/womens/female sport interesting or enjoyable to watch, with the exception of athletics. Might have on a bit of cricket or golf in the background. That's not a criticism of them, just my view.

To say the only difference is a lack of diving is stretching reality. Everything about it is inferior to mens football which is why I find it such a hard watch - the lack of pace, lack of quality on the ball, decision making etc makes it unwatchable for me. Find it far less enjoyable than let's say womens cricket or golf which I do sometimes have a watch of.

Yet you still quote it. Let it pass you by next time.

Have to be honest I have very little interest in ladies sport - I just find it boring and low quality.

Wasn't Alex Neil linked with us when LJ left? Couldn't think of anything worse. -

Yes I agree - I suppose with all this talk of progress we need to get some early results especially with last seasons deficiencies of late goals and dropping points. I am concerned about our attacking threat, especially at home. I'm not at sunderland unfortunately but I can see it being a physical slog. -

Despite being only the 2nd game of the season I can't help but feel this is a big game - momentum is so important in this league. I worry about our attacking threat without Semenyo. -
An unexpected bonus.

Hull City away match day thread
RudiRed replied to Curr Avon's topic in The Havanatopia Match Day Archive
I am a qualified ref - fouls are split into 3 categories - careless, reckless and excessive force. Reckless = yellow, excessive force = red......the left wing back had at least 2 "reckless" challenges - and I mean at least.....for him not to get a booking all game is a prime example of the ref not following the rule book. Some will say that refs want to allow the game to flow, that's fine with "careless" challenges - you can give multiple chances.....you can't with the other two. When you qualify as a ref it makes you realise just how dire these officials in in champ are.....its a hard job and the pace is quick but the rulebook is very clear, and for them to be incapable of doing the basics is extremely concerning. -
Match Report: Freak Hull goals ruin in-control City's season opener

I think a draw would've been a fair result. Seri was the best player on the pitch, signed from Fulham rumours Hull are paying him over 50k pw. -

The standard of refereeing within the championship is dreadful. They lack emotional intelligence and we are now at a point where they are not makikg decisions based on individual events but the accumulation of appeals or by who shouts loudest. The ref does not give the Hull penalty if they hadn't had 2 appeals already, both of which didn't look like fouls and neither would've been over turned by VAR. The Atkinson decision was scandalous considering he was staring straight at it. Moving forward the only solution is to be aggressive and unpleasant to the ref. Crowd him, intimidate him and question him, they don't have the bollocks to give 7 8 yellow cards a game. This may not sit comfortably for some but unfortunately the refs have shown they are mentally weak and easily fold under pressure. Decisions should be based on merit and individual circumstances, unfortunately due to the referee incompetence we are well passed that point now.
