  1. They were a premier league side until 4 years ago and were in there for 10 years from 2008 and 2018, they have also appointed a very good manager who is more than likely going to get them back there. Stoke are by far a more successful club than ourselves and whilst they have been poor this season, they would easily be a bigger draw to a player than Bristol City and harder to poach a player from. It has been 42 years since we were last in the top light !
  2. One of the biggest problems in that is that extra year of contract counts for so much, also one plays for Stoke, the other Bristol City. One could argue Stoke are a lot closer to the Premier League and a far bigger club than Bristol City, regardless of how blinkered our fans may be. They may be just below us in the league, but I would imagine most players would feel Stoke are a bigger club and more likely to get promoted than Bristol City any time soon, so it would be hard to prize their better players away, therefore more money needs to be offered. In a round about way, any Premier League club would be a better proposition than Bristol City in most players eyes, even if they were to be relegated in 5 months, as they would stand a better chance of going back up, would gain top flight experience and be on a better wage. It is easier to get into a players head at a smaller club than a bigger club, regardless of what our fans may think. Semenyo has shown no desire to sign a new deal and whilst he might be attracted to join a Premier League club now, it is not beyond reasonable doubt, he would be happy to leave us in the summer for a top end Championship club. I actually think he'll be sold this week, but I'm also pretty sure it will be an undisclosed fee.
  3. If he doesn't want that T-Shirt, I can offer up a T-Shirt I had made in December 2017, which has Lee on it, with the writing God is a Lee J, I got it made after the Man Utd game and everything seemed to go down hill very quickly afterwards and its never been worn. So I may have been the curse that caused the downturn .....
  4. I actually think that's a really good point, and often you find in a business people who are promoted are those who are known or friendly with those in charge, whilst the better man rarely gets the job for the opposite reasons. I personally think when you own a club, you shouldn't have a say on who the manager is, that's why you employ a recruitment team. If you don't trust the team to make the recruitment you want, why have a recruitment team in the first place.
  5. Seriously? Sorry, but I don't care what walk of life you are from, you look after yourself. If someone offered to 5x, or 10x your wages, you would go to that new job and if someone tried to block it you wouldn't be happy. Maybe the club and Semenyo have agreed a fee they would be happy to see him leave for, and there's an understanding in place, if an offer coming in matches that they wont stand in his way, but its a dangerous game for a player who knows he is 18 months away from a far better contract than he is on now. A contract this club can't and wont be able to give. Semenyo as a free agent can command a decent signing on fee, and a decent wage that would set him up for life, and he will have an agent making this very clear to him. If we want to play a 10 million pound game of pitch and toss, it's incredibly risky. He is not signing a new deal, and his stock and value is at it's highest now. We also need money to reinvest and I think anyone would agree keeping Scott, Conway and Pring and whatever their future values may be is better than keeping a player who 100% wont be here at the end of the season, and right now we can cash in for 10m. The club is pretty much skint, needs to reinvest and improve the squad and has to sell to do so. But by not selling Semenyo, we prevent that from happening. Holding out for the crown jewels is all well in good if your sat in the pound seats with a player very much under your control, (ie like Scott), but it is a dangerous game with a situation like Semenyo.
  6. Really ? Been reported online that Semenyo has agreed terms of 50K a week at Bournemouth. Therefore there's your 50,000 reasons right there not to stay at Bristol City. People will say it's not about the money, and it shouldn't be, but that's rubbish. If someone is going to offer you a salary which sets you up for life, especially in an industry which if you are lucky you have 4/5 decent contracts in and 10-15 years at most, then you are 100% not passing it up, and if someone tries to block it for you, you certainly wouldn't be happy about it. I have no idea, how much Semenyo is on here, maybe 10K, but if the numbers banded about are true, or even half of that amount for what its worth, there is no way he would be happy about the club blocking a move, and I wouldn't blame him either.
  7. I'll rephrase, a high number of fans calling for a managers head and discontent in the stands.
  8. Not all fans felt/feel we had a poor team. Many felt we had an inconsistent team being hindered by a formation that doesn't work for us, and a manager who refused to play players in their best positions. Oddly enough he finally scrapped the 3-5-2 5-3-2 and playing square pegs in round holes, and we've found a bit of form and starting to be more consistent.
  9. Turning down 10m, is a strange one. Esp if included a sell on as well. Given he has 12 months left in the summer, I can't see us getting 10m for a player with one year left who has no intention of signing a new deal, and has already been offered big bucks from a premier league club, only for us to turn it down. If Bournemouth do move on, I would not be surprised to see Semenyo put in a transfer request.
  10. Maybe, but if he doesn't get sold and we end up with a Maynard or Famara situation, then the club can only blame themselves. I can understand holding out for decent money for Scott, and it's likely Scott, Conway and Pring will end up players who could earn us big money with the length of contracts, but we are playing Russian roulette with a player who can be replaced easily enough and £8m would go a long way to helping us bring in players in areas we need.
  11. I would personally had taken the £8m, if it included add ons. He may be in form now, but I think it's cause he is playing for a move, we saw how he went missing not wanting to get hurt prior to the world cup, and I feel if he is still here in Feb, he could easily go missing again and angle for a move in the summer, when he has 12 months left.
  12. I think ex City Managers wise, I enjoyed our time with Gary Johnson, and I always wanted Lee to succeed. I liked Lee, he was happy to speak to the fans, cared about the club, and I think he is very intelligent. I like how he convinced good youngsters to come to City and I actually wouldn't be against having him back in some capacity in the future. I think he would be an excellent first team coach, or even manager of the U23/21. Without Ashton, I think he would have taken us up, and it's no surprise that the core of the team at Sunderland are all Johnson signings and developments, and they are up there. Outside of City, I think you have to admire Arsene Wenger for his longevity and consistency at Arsenal, and the invincible's is unlikely to ever be repeated. He overstayed, but I doubt there are many football fans who wouldn't say he was one of the greatest managers in the last 20 years. I'm not a Klopp fan, I think he is smug, a poor loser and I'm delighted Liverpool are klipperty klopp flopping right now and its only a matter of time before he's sacked. I always liked Warnock, good manager, winds up opposition fans and takes no prisoners. His record speaks for itself. I would also agree with Eddie, Darryl Clarke done a very good job at Rovers, and I'm surprised he has never got a bigger gig. Finally although many hate him, I've always had a soft spot for Ian Holloway. I think he has a likeable personality and I think he gets underachieving players to believe in themselves. What he achieved at Blackpool, speaks for itself, and sometimes some managers just work for a club and it doesn't work elsewhere.
  13. 8m could seem very big in the summer, with 12 months left and the option to talk to foreign clubs in another 6 months. Not sure how much we are holding out for, but I would imagine the 8m included add ons and it'll be interesting if they come back with an improved offer. I would say 10m, plus another 1m if they stay up, and percentage of profit clause on his future transfer, would be enough to swing it.
  14. As a youth product yes, but he still came through our academy, so I am pretty sure he is regarded as one of ours, and an academy product, not a player we purchased from Cheltenham.
  15. Look lads come on now. WE all know it's just gonna be; He's one of our own He's one of our own Cameron Pring He's one of our own So why waste threads on fancy chants that never happen
  16. I think if I was a player at Everton, I would have slept at the ground overnight !
  17. I don't get how fans can take the moral high ground over this. I recall around 40,000 City Fans at Cardiff Millennium Stadium in 2004, and for a lot of the game the majority sang towards the Brighton fans "Does your boyfriend know you're here". Times have changed, and it's not a chant that could ever be sung again in all honesty, but fans can't take the moral high ground slating other fans and clubs, when 18 years ago, a lot of us, had done the very same at the Millennium stadium.
  18. Really, he's stuck with 5-3-2 / 3-5-2 when it doesn't suit us and he has insisted this his whole tenure, rather than assessing what we can do. Also says you have to give every player a chance and work with them to get the best from them. I would say this is polar opposite of Pearson.
  19. Anyone whose not listened to it, listen to it at 12 minutes. I think he sums up Pearson very well, in the mistakes he's making here on the pitch. Warnock says how it should be done.
  20. One thing I like about that interview: Q: So are you truly properly retired. A. Errrr, well you never say never, but I've enjoyed Xmas with the family not worrying about 25 players. I actually reckon, we are the one club he would turn on his retirement for.
