Nice to see the club doing something like this for a group of fans.
I have a genuine question for those that are involved in this relationship - will this be a rare example of an actual FRIENDLY? For example will there be an away/home end? Presumably Willem II fans will be welcome in the normal home City pubs?
To be clear: I love it if this is the case. I'm all for actual friendlies and fraternal bonding between different clubs, wish there was more of it.
Seeing as Willem fans are regularly in city home ends it would be bonkers to segregate it and it wouldn’t be followed anyway.

It’s only a start but a welcome one - got to give credit where it’s deserved. Don’t think there’s a need for cynicism on this one. Just a day to look forward to in the summer calendar.
It is a start, but as Phantom said why have they done it now?
As I said. Willem first asked for a friendly in 2008, 16 years ago.
The timing just seems a bit odd, what with everything that has gone on recently .

I'm not sure if I said that but I will take your word for it
Certainly don't look daft considering how many years we rebuffed offers made by Willem to play us, it is interesting to know why after all the years of attempts to arrange this fixture they do it now?
It will be great to see all our friends from Tilburg over for the game
I personally think it’s the board trying to whitewash any issues, now they can go
“look at us guys, us on the board are lads just like you, proper fans”
I really can’t see any other reason for it.

@phantom this is what I mean, club are already getting credit for it. Quite clever really to get fans onside.

That should be a cracking day out. Well done to both clubs getting this done.

Willem asked city to play a friendly as long ago as 2008, I’m surprised city have taken this long to get on board.

Please let's not drag that debate up again
Leave it to the fans to continue to arrange things independently, certainly works well as it is
Let’s be honest you look a tad daft now saying it would never happen!

Who in their right mind would pour millions into the club to be a junior partner to Lansdown ?
They wouldn’t would they, let’s be honest it’s not like lansdowns don’t have the money to waste, it’s quite literally play money to them

He doesn’t. Jon continues, assisted by Brian
Jon stated this week they were looking for investment so I guess we will see if that ever comes.
Looking for investment while being stupidly rich themselves , translates as “we don’t want to put our own money into this anymore”

I don’t get why two shirts means that he’s not staying. I can only guess that they’re being put away as he’s no longer playing.
I honestly think you live in a parallel world compared to the rest of us.

I found it very cringe worthy the way it was being hyped as seemingly such a "fantastic season" (Downsey's words) celebration but doing the awards after the match like that worked well I think and was a nice way to round off the last home game
Would have helped if they didn’t take so long to start it though , a lot of people got bored and left.

You could say it was one last time for all the players for this season
He was practically in tears, you could tell it’s his last home game.

Why don't you?
On average 3000 season ticket holders per game do not attend, this has increased a lot since covid.
This data was given by the club to the senior reds meal.- 1

@phantom with the data about season ticket holders not attending , the figure was given by the club to the senior reds meal, so I don’t see why you can’t mention it here.

This comes up every year.
They’re (currently) a second tier Dutch club who are typically in the lower reaches of the top flight.
From a friendly/revenue point of view it wouldn’t bring in many floating fans. Willem just aren’t a big name or a big club. It would no doubt be good for fans who are engaged in the link between the two clubs but that is in reality a very small proportion of the fanbase and doesn’t butter enough parsnips to make a game at Ashton massively commercially viable.
I get why people ask for it - but from a £ point of view I don’t see it happening.
(NB - Per Opta rankings the Dutch Eredivise is one step below the Championship and the second tier isn’t in the top 30. Competitive wise that makes Willem a Rotherham in real terms currently. There is a merit in playing them as a test of a team who should be a little worse than us based on current record, but the commercial side often wins out here)
When have any pre season friendlies against a team from abroad drew big crowds?
Id bet a game against willem would be a normal a crowd as any.

I’m more shocked he somehow played 47 times for us according to wiki

Is word pay the only option you can use?
I genuinely don't know the answer - if it is can you let me know and I can raise for you at a higher level
Word pay is who the club uses to process payments

I'm sure I've read on here that online orders are managed by Huboo from one of their fulfilment facilities and are then delivered to Ashton Gate for collection.
This is correct,
Basically Huboo send it to the club, who then tell you it’s ready to collect.

When they have thousands of pictures they can use for promoting our end of season awards, why on earth choose one full of opposition supporters? They've just not thought about it, have they?
No, but I don’t think the club think about much at all

I'm no financial whizz, but your monthly contract is with the finance company who make their profit from the interest you pay. Surely they pay the club up front for your ticket purchase.
Happy to be proved wrong.
If you stop paying monthly they cancel the season ticket, they don’t chase you for the rest of the monthly payments (the finance company), so I doubt they do pay upfront.

For the womens football, should there not be a “do not watch or follow the women’s game”
You’ll get a lot of votes for random women’s players who might win on luck rather than merit?

big thing proved to me today is the players werent just playing up to the cameras. not much incentive for them beating a crap plymouth team.
however, they have helped manning secure his place so sort of suggests they do like him. weve all seen dead rubbers played out in previous seasons, too many in recent years, today didnt seem like one. they wanted to win
Players don’t need to play up for cameras anymore, this isn’t 1992 anymore.
Every game is possible to be watched now days.
