    Manning seems to like Mehmeti.

I can see Wells going but will need a replacement and that might eat up his wage.

Cornick im unsure of. Think Manning sees him as a good squad option.

I personally think hes not "got" Knight so may seek to move on  plus unfortunately James and King off anyway.

A hunch that Williams will be off too.

    100% agree.

Think Knight is wasted in that advanced role but maybe when James/Williams plays out he’ll drop back there next season

Can’t call the contracts there albeit the longer it goes on suggests there’s nothing on the table or it’s lower than wanted and they’re scoping their options which is understandable. Who knows!

  2. I’m totally torn, I wanted Nige to get another 2 years and have the transfer funds/turnover opportunities that Manning will get.

However, some of the football under Manning does make me buy into the plan, games against Forest, West Ham and Southampton prove that thought process and it gives me optimism

But then the game against Millwall was so boring and flat and QPR was a tactical mess making me think he has no plan B when teams play certain ways against us

He will get the summer/pre season so I’m just hoping it pays off but as of now I could see us being in the top 6 and a flying start to the season or just above the relegation zone after 20 games.

Whether you were a Nige fan or not, the transition from him to Manning wasn’t helped by Jon Lansdown spouting the nonsense about the squad. The reality seems to have been there was a fall out and Nige wasn’t going to be offered a new deal so it became toxic.   Perhaps something like that would have at least been understood by fans.

So in summary…not a clue but I’ll renew my season ticket as always on the hope next season is the exciting play off push and try to have that optimism

So who are the players that are under contract but not good enough?

I'm struggling to think of any? Mehmeti?

This squad is a decent squad. It had the potential to challange for the top 6. Manning was brought in to do that with this current set of players. He's failed to do that.

For me it’s Mehemti, Cornick and Wells but that’s just my personal opinion really. We all see slightly different things in players

You also said "I'm more concerned about the players we have under contract who aren't good enough"

So name them (in your opinion) or retract the statement. Perhaps your bosses told you to post that eh?

Came on here on 27th January  39 posts since. Busy eh? Hope the overtimes worth it.

So your logic is because I’m trying to be positive about the club and a loan signing I must be being paid by the club?

    Jeez 😂

  5. Bosses? I doubt very much my bosses would care very much about Bristol City I can assure you 😂

As you asked the first team squad players under contract I would look to sell this summer would be Cornick, Mehmeti, Bajic and Wells

Please name these players who aren't good enough and "we just can't shift"

I said “we just can’t shift on as easily” meaning players under contract are harder to shift than loan players

i.e if Mbude doesn’t work out then we don’t have to sign him and the loan ends.

However, if as an example LM wanted to move on Mehmeti then that’s not as easy as he still has 2.5 years left on his contract

its just the point that we’ve signed Mbude on loan, he’s played about 45 minutes and I’m not rushing to judge him yet albeit if it doesn’t work out then he goes back to his parent club and we move on.

Yes correct but in the return we pegged them back and then went on a mini run. Albeit not quite enough.

Those were the first 2 games, I'm talking about the return and period slightly beyond.

Benny had a particularly torrid first 2 games, then next 3 slightly less torrid but we were a bit more competitive December to May.

I liked the spirit in those final months trying to stay up, think I recall a win at home with Jim Brennan flying down the left side and Ade Akinbyi grabbing a couple..Norwich perhaps

Who are these players the club is trying to shift?

It was more the broad point that every manager has players in the squad they want to move on but it’s not that easy when under contract etc.  I’m not on the inside so no idea who the club will be open to offers on but there obviously will be

  9. Some of the comments on here about Mbude are utterly ridiculous 😂

The lads played about 45 minutes over two games, he’s on loan and if it doesn’t work out then no harm done

We’ve all been crying out for decent loans since Tammy and some work out and some don’t.

I’m more concerned about the players we have under contract who aren’t good enough that we just can’t shift on as easily as not signing a loan player permanently

He may settle in and we’ll all be raving about him in a couple of games, if he pops up and scores the winner against Cardiff then we’ll all be cheering!

So let’s give the lad a chance

He's going to have to find more ways of playing the game.

His tactics are very basic and if organised well, easy to defend against.

Too much reliance on wide play offensively and crosses.  And trying to draw CBs outward to create space on the edge of the box to pass into.

If disciplined you just keep formation and slide with the cross field movement.

Only time we look like scoring is winning the ball from a press, an interception, or breakaway counter.

Our build up possession football that he's trying to create is sooooo obvious.

We have players that could be useful down the middle. But he chooses not to do that.

We rely on slide rule passes from wide to score.

Fair assessment, at times far too predictable to play against

it’s baffling how we can go from so good to so bad in a matter of days. Yesterday he got it all wrong and players were way off it of which he can’t take all the blame clearly

Summer turnover? I wouldn’t expect too much at all, tbh. I think the bulk of our summer business was done last month.

Guess it depends on contracts of Williams and James and what offers we get for fringe players or perhaps those out of contract next year namely Conway for one

Sorry still disagree profoundly. We had similar random good results under Pearson with a far inferior squad.  It’s not the wins that you judge a coach by but the defeats, imo

Yeah that’s true we did, I guess time will tell (I wouldn’t have sacked Nige by the way)

What evidence do you have for your first paragraph ?

PS If we already have a top six side why would we need ‘a summer turnover’ - tweaking perhaps but not turnover

Because ‘buy in’ means I can see the style and impact it can have and has been shown as West Ham, Forest and Southampton to name the most obvious games

i haven’t said we are a top 6 side, that was Jon Lansdown’s lack of credibility comment around sacking Nige when he should have just been honest.

  14. I buy into what Manning is doing and I think after a summer turnover I think next season is going to be the best for some years

But yesterday he got pretty much everything key wrong from starters to subs to formation/tactics chasing the game

Hopefully he’ll learn a lot from it!!!

Looked like a lop sided back 4 with Mcrorie high, at times. Not sure what position Cornick was told to play, but it seemed right side ahead of Mcrorie. Neither played well. Should have switched to Tanner in traditional full back role with Sykes Rw imo.

    Spot on

  16. I get it wasn’t the best of games from him but come on, give him a chance.

Plenty of other far more experienced players yesterday had awful games and aren’t getting this level of negative attention.

  17. For me Mehemti’s negatives outweigh the positives too much in game, lots of trickery and gets into good positions but end product is often poor, backs out of every 50:50 and when the game gets tough he goes missing.  Hopefully with a summer of protein powder he’ll come back next season better

Cornick is clearly a likeable bloke and you could never fault his work ethic as it’s evident throughout but he’s just not good enough for a team aiming for the play offs, there’s a reason Luton didn’t extend his contract and he was their 3rd or 4th option up front

Everytime he comes on I want him to do well and prove everyone wrong but yesterday again I was away from the game thinking he’s Steve Torpey with a moustache.  Great work rate but falls short too often

  18. Great composed and controlled performance..I stand by it…next season we’ll be in or the closest to the play offs since Hull

Albeit this season as of now we’re only 4 points off so you never know!

It's normal for football fans to discuss tactics, team selections etc. Despite what some on here think, we don't live in NK!

Great win. First half we were absolutely fantastic.

But the second half was a polar opposite. We got the job done, just. With a huge slice of luck (about time we had some)

It's great that we brought home the 3 points but my concern is that if Manning makes a habit of doing this, then we are not always going to have that luck on our side.

The changes just about worked yesterday but on another day with those changes we draw or lose that.

Spot on really, Cornick could have been throwing up at half time for all we know and that’s been disguised in the post match comments to not reveal any possible selections for Tuesday

However, Mehmeti just doesn’t have the defensive abilities so bringing him on when we should have expected a more attacking Boro might not have been the best in hindsight

He clearly works hard but his positioning when teams attack his side needs massive improvement, he’s a few seconds off knowing where to be and often gets caught out as a result so him coming on allowed them to build confidence on the right hand side which every attack seemed to then come from.

Since the pandemic I didn’t go to away games for a while  , so I think today was the first time I’ve seen City win away since Fulham in Dec 19 - so I should have come out of the ground feeling ecstatic. Instead I just felt shredded and relieved. We played really well first half,  and I like the manning style which is improving our passing  . I think fatigue played a part,  but also felt Mehmeti playing opposite Luke Ayling was a strange choice . He had got behind us and put  in crosses  a few times in the first half , but without Mehmeti tracking back properly he had acres of space all second half and a goal coming from it seemed inevitable. The good news was it came so late in the game we were able to hold on Very pleased now that we won , but it was a looooong second half .

Agree with this, Mehmeti leaves us wide open with his defensive play and backtracking against an attacking wing back/full back like Ayling
