  1. Here's what we recorded earlier: https://foreverbristolcity.podbean.com/e/why-the-long-faces-we-played-well-for-an-hour/ [Also on Google, Spotify & Apple] Intro / out music is in memory of The Seekers lead singer Judith Durham who passed away yesterday - who else saw them in Panto [Humpty Dumpty] at the Bristol Hippodrome in 1966? Who remembers any of their songs including the featured track which was also made into a film? Ian's views are quite balanced, Neil's typically analytic & thoughtful, Mark provides some humour and DaveP wrestles with typical FBC Pod sound issues!!!
  2. We've just been talking [not for the first time !] about this on FBC Pod. Personally I think it is possible to have a separately owned / funded football club under the Bristol Sport [Pula Sports Ltd.] umbrella. Here is the relevant 2 minutes from the Geoff 20man interview with SL: https://make.headliner.app/download/7435adc9-7009-409a-9cf1-f8e9a29ef32d?source=user-export-email&pid=064cffac-3fe1-4a82-a06a-d2152c293650&_branch_match_id=1061696442179810464&utm_source=email&utm_medium=video-detail&_branch_referrer=H4sIAAAAAAAAAw3LSwrDIBAA0Nt0N%2FFvMoXQswzOiELaiJrQ47dv%2F8qcbTyVGoW6LEWIj%2FqRvlBr6q4sJ7BMqodavQvECWHVGsFrJMCUDeRNkCxKdpZf47x6kv0a0kG%2B7ewT5P3fj1Z519GnnCmBy2LA02aBdCRga4JNFl0M%2BgfFa0EcjwAAAA%3D%3D
  3. You can listen to us live at 10.00 this morning as we record our latest episode reviewing yesterday's game and also debate the comments Steve Lansdown made in his interview with Geoff 20Man pre-match about "selling" the club: https://www.podbean.com/lsw/voj3TKjf6G?lsid=oo5pmu0purw [link to the recording will be posted later in this thread] Just what was Kal Naismith thinking on 3 minutes when his hesitancy gifted the visitors their first but fair play to City who scored a well worked goal through Weimann to level and then take the lead with Martin's scrambled effort. However from the 60th minute either Sunderland stepped up a gear or, like at Hull, our resilience [fitness?] was found wanting and there was only going to be one winner and it wasn't us. Orchestrated from midfield by Barry Bannan lookalike Alex Pritchard Sunderland loanee Sims grabbed his second and Stewart headed the winning goal as City looked a somewhat disorganised rabble in the closing 15 minutes. It is quite depressing that c8k non-season ticket holders from Bristol decided to give it a go on the day and whilst they saw a 5-goal thriller how many will be back against Luton a week on Tuesday? Lansdown's chat with Geoff was very interesting and my interpretation of what he said echoes the thoughts we've expressed on FBC and that is that the football club can be hived off from Bristol Sport if the price is right.
  4. 1. Indeed the whole pattern of the game was different from that moment on. Hell, if it hadn't happened we might have won but the pendulum was swinging in the home side's favour as most [?] would agree. 2. Won't deny those comments re. HNM - it was all about fresh legs, particularly in the middle. 3. That was, I believe, to replace the inured Atkinson. When it was announced that Zak Vyner was starting the decision bought dogs abuse on here prior to kick off. People always pick up on a perceived level of negativity expressed on FBC but on this point we were, as a group, praising Zak's performance.
  5. Why the witch hunt over Ian FFS? I invite any of his critics to come on to our next live podcast which we'll record at 10.00 AM next Sunday as we review the Sunderland game.
  6. Dave, I never intended for FBC to carry out a forensic analysis of the teams performance - it has always been about just opinions regardless of how misjudged and ill informed they are. We are knee jerk & I take the view that possibly this applies to most fans. To back that up, I took time out to listen to 3PIAPC yesterday and in their "how you feeling segment" one of the guys said they felt 5/10 at full time but by the time they'd got back to Bristol it was [generous!] 8/10. I also noted they did marks out of 10 for each player. This is a segment we used to run when you were a regular with us and which you felt was a somewhat fatuous form of analysis!!! There is only one stat that matters in the cold light of day and that is points on the board. Whilst we were cheated by the ref the fact is we have lost 3 points from a winning position. FWIW I think our game management was poor in the closing stages. When 6 mins of time added on were shown we had scope to run the clock down with a double substitution : HNM & Wells on for Weimann [ran himself into the ground] and Martin [very tired].
  7. https://foreverbristolcity.podbean.com/e/deja-vu-awful-refereeing-late-goal-conceded/ [Also on Google, Apple & Spotify] Ian, Mark and DaveP discuss the 2-1 defeat at Hull where City's performance was worthy of a point [at least?]. When City took the lead with a fine Weimann goal on the half hour it was no more than they deserved against a Hull side with so many new additions they probably don't know each other's names yet! Vyner had a decent game on his return to the first team although was lucky not to have a penalty awarded against him for an early challenge. People say things even themselves out over a season and maybe ref Dean Whitehouse aimed to prove that point when he awarded the home side a penalty after a dive by Tetteh that would not have looked out of place at the Commonwealth Games in the Triple Jump. That made it 1-1 through Tufan's well struck kick and although Weimann almost scored his second to put City back in front there was a growing sense of inevitability that Hull would get the winner as a the game moved into injury time. That Seri's 93 minute winning strike took a wicked deflection off Klose should not detract from the fact that he was totally unmarked 20 yards out when he took aim. Sykes was as good as Scott was poor and Nigel must be wondering whether James & Williams have enough energy and creativity to be the go to midfield pairing. With 5 subs allowed perhaps Nigel could have brought on HNM and maybe even Wells to run down the clock with Martin the obvious player to come off?
  8. New link posted - should be viewable in Podbean
  9. https://www.podbean.com/lsw/voj3TKjf6G?lsid=v2kxVfKjf6G We're trying our own version of Soccer Saturday before the 6.00 PM live recording of our usual match review podcast! Mark will be giving us live updates from the MKM Stadium with Ian watching the game from Madeira and being a virtual guest in DaveP's studio as we monitor and comment on the action across all three divisions of the EFL. Many thanks to all those who have listened to our 22/23 Season Previews with over 1500 downloads so far. Thanks to Gregor, Chris Honor, Gareth Chilcott, Gary Owers and Richard Latham for taking the time out to chat. Our latest preview was with Richard Latham: https://foreverbristolcity.podbean.com/e/2223-season-preview-4-with-richard-latham/ Here's hoping for at least a point this afternoon ...... COYR!
  10. DaveP hosts two more 22/23 season previews with the former rugby player and lifelong City fan Gareth Chilcott plus former City player Gary Owers. Our discussions touch on most of the topics featuring on this forum and if you're travelling to Hull they'll cover off a couple of hours on the journey! https://foreverbristolcity.podbean.com/e/2223-season-preview-2-with-gareth-chilcott/ https://foreverbristolcity.podbean.com/e/2223-season-preview-3-with-gary-owers/ [AURAL HEALTH WARNING - IF OFFENDED BY Ian Gay, stay away!!!] We're planning a live broadcast from 2.30 PM on Saturday with Mark giving us match updates from the MKM and DaveP & Ian relaying the news from around the grounds in all Divisions of the EFL. - our attempt at Sky's Soccer Saturday!
  11. https://foreverbristolcity.podbean.com/e/2223-season-preview-1-with-gregor-macgregor-chris-honor/ Dave P is joined by Chris and Gregor in talking through where City are at right now on the eve of the new season. Transfer business done, contracts, who'll wear the captains armband, likely line up vs Hull and with 15% of the season passed within 33 days [30/7-31-8] what is the predicted points haul from the 7 games? Question - if Kane Wilson is injured this weekend do you select Alex Scott as RWB or play him in midfield?
  12. King = future coach / buddy of Nige / supported the club as a boy Whilst I know he has had a slight injury there have been few, if any, mentions of Josh Owers this preseason. He IS that defensive midfielder, albeit with zero experience, and surely he has to feature at some point? Wasn't he in the matchday18 a couple of times towards the end of the season?
  13. Seems a bit harsh - is there something we should know?
  14. Bristol Live "exclusive" https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/louis-britton-bristol-city-criticism-7364951 Harshly treated by Nige? Would have offered that back up for Martin that most seem to be calling for.
  15. DaveP hosted 2 episodes of the FBC Pod featuring regular contributors on this forum plus the always controversial Ian Gay. You may have already heard them if you subscribe to the pod ; we've had over 1200 downloads so far! We talk about transfers in & out and what might be yet to come in both respects as well as what the starting X1 & shape could be on July 30th. Here are the links: https://foreverbristolcity.podbean.com/e/midsummer-musings-featuring-davefevs-neil-sutton/ https://foreverbristolcity.podbean.com/e/midsummer-musings-2-with-ian-gay-paul-binning-aka-exiled-robin/ We'll be back with our regular post match reviews & specials and before that a number of pre-season reviews from our guest list.
  16. Somewhere between the two, i.e. 23, would be acceptable to the vast majority of the fanbase
  17. Link to listen live: https://www.podbean.com/lsw/voj3TKjf6G?lsid=xYr6gC7gupo Join DaveP, Ian, Mark & Neil from 8.30 AM in the build up to the release of the 22/23 Season fixtures at 9.00 AM. When are the "big" matchdays, are some periods less testing than others, what is an acceptable points total by Matchday 16 when the season stops for the World Cup break? We'll also discuss the summer transfer activity so far.
  18. For Massengo asking for "too much" perhaps it should read his agent? I posted on Twitter yesterday that if he hangs around here until next summer he's bound to get some minutes even if he isn't first choice in a 3 and as a free agent [save for some meagre compo] he and his agent get a better deal as there is no fee involved.
  19. Antoine is 23 in January, a year younger than Webster was when he joined us and he was gone within 12 months. The "right time for his career" argument does not apply IMHO to Antoine but it DOES for Alex Scott who's only 19 in two months time.
  20. If, as you said, Semenyo is currently on £2k per week and we offer £10k which is probably within our pay structure then that is fine but not if Celtic or whoever are offering him a 3 year deal at £15k per week now; in fact if "whoever" is any Prem club then read £20k. Semenyo will want that cash NOW like Webster did - its a short career after all!!
  21. Giving him a better contract would make sense but then does that not push him towards the likes of what Palmer & Kalas earn which flies in the face of Pearson's desire to have everyone on a similar wage?
  22. That WAS the case in 2004. IIRC, in 08 contracts were done in a way that cast offs who were OOC in the summer would not lose out.
