  1. DaveFevs joined Ian Mark and DaveP in discussing the match action and thoughts on off the pitch matters.

A spirited performance but defeat against a newly promoted Ipswich who, on current form, look like they’ll sail past City into the promised land!

Max O’Leary appears to be the villain of the piece for failing to deal with Broadhead’s well struck shot that was the difference between the sides. Fans should cut him some slack in my opinion with his acrobatic save just before the goal and another one-handed stop from Davis at the start of the second half which kept City in the game.

Cornick was unlucky to see his late effort strike the post, goalkeeper’s bank than spin along the line in similar fashion to that effort from Alan Walsh in 1989 League Cup semi before being cleared.

Fevs very much the stat man points out that City’s Xg  was marginally better than Ipswich whilst Ian quotes from Wyscout that we played more forward passes and had more crosses than the visitors but fewer touches in the box.

You really shouldn’t be putting your content out in public if you can’t take the criticism.

Btw ‘out of control speedboat’ wasn’t funny the first time or when you say it during most episodes.

No problem facing criticism it's just some are relentless to the extent of being waring.

Must be doing a decent job on FBC as our stats (visible on Podbean unlike some) have shown a 80% increase in audience since last year.

Btw, the speedboat comment was Chris' and I quite like it as I think it apt too often. Watch the arm pointing too and wasting of energy chasing balls he's no hope of reaching.

In fairness, Andi is due a goal and I can see him getting a brace tomorrow!

Interesting that @headhunter has liked your comment here that you think he’s “only had one good season”. Obviously reverting to his famous theory of a couple of years ago that apparently he just “runs around”..

Weimann scored 10 goals in 44 games in his first season with us, but seemingly that wasn’t “good”. 9 goals in 45 games in his second (not “good” either).
Then he had his serious injury interrupted season (7 games, 2 goals) after which he came back & had THAT season (an ever present, won an international recall after 7 years out, scored against France, top scorer, most goals in a season for us at this level for 40 years, fans’ player of the year, players’ player of the year).
6 goals in his 43 games for us last year (again that’s not “good”, apparently).

To recap then he is now one goal shy of scoring 50 Championship goals for us, you have to go back to John Galley for the last person to achieve this at City, (though to be fair to Sir Tom Ritchie he would certainly have done so had he not played 4 top flight years).

But Weimann’s had just the one “good” season with us, apparently. This is the same player who cost us just over half what we paid for Kasey Palmer & the same fee that we paid for Gustav Engvall..

Opinions are of course just opinions but this one is for me, completely ******* clueless.

My opinion is mirrored by Chris Honor, a fellow pro who you'll say is ******* clueless too then? His ratio is one in 4 which is OK for a championship striker but no more than that.

Reading your post I was reminded of that Steve Coogan song, "everyone has to be a **** sometimes" although in your case it's all the time!!!

Don't read my posts or listen to the podcast. It can't be good for your health us living rent free in your head. 😆😆

Love the spelling of Euell, but that aside, after his recent Luton comments surely our Steve has his eyes blushing at the runty little Welshman that set them on their path to the PL  and is currently out of work.

Nathan wouldn't go down well and similar for Rowett. Eustace would be a decent shout.

On a scale of 1-10, with 10 meaning definitely, do you think he'll still be here when the next window opens?

So 18 month rolling contract starting in January. Any explanation of what happens to the remaining 5 months of his current deal or is that just to be written off.

Yes, written off. It would be an agreement on new terms better than what's on the table as it stands and not grounds for constructive dismissal.

Personally I think his health condition may come into play in some way, i.e. have the op and take an extensive period to recover and ultimately a soft runway to departure with a small payoff in the summer.

Audition for Jason Youell to make a play for it permanently - a typical Lansdown appointment.

Looking forward to this episode. The FBC lads normally do a pretty good analysis of things like NP’s comments of yesterday. Now OSIB’s content is limited it’s now my favourite podcast!

    Thank you.

This weekend's episode is now available to download from on Spotify etc. etc. or just click here:

Lansdown needs to go NOW. He is killing this club. Wake up City fans. 20 years of nothing. Now he is driving out the best manager this club has ever had. Time to rise up and drive Lansdown out. He has no idea how to run a football club.

"Best manager this club has ever had" is quite an overstatement.

He HAS cleared up the mess left by the Lansdown indulged Lee Johnson & Mark Ashton and maintained Championship status but from an achievement perspective he's behind Dicks, Jordan and GJ in my book.

To chime in, 12 month rolling deal is pretty ungenerous given his work to date and doubt so while resources being cut and accepting it when it really was, without complaint.

I agree it is not generous but Nige strikes me as the sort of guy who would say enough is enough regardless of any contract length.

I think he is at a stage of his life when football isn't his be all and end all.

a 12 month rolling contract - Wow that’s real confidence and backing

If you were honest you’d admit None of you have supported or recognised what he’s been doing

I don't disagree but it takes the "pressure" off the Lansdown's in the present. It is only asking them to commit to an extra 6 months on his present deal if they worried about a big payout to someone who calls them out on their failings.

But then , you and your two co-horts wanted him sacked not long ago

Still , when you get your wish , what comes next will get you moaning for the next few years

Take it you won't be watching or listening then?

For a number of weeks I've been calling for Nige to be given a rolling 12 month contract from now so give it a rest.

Support for Pearson is growing within the fanbase but would sentiment have been different had we lost convincingly which on another day we could have done.

With a quarter of the season gone we're well and truly in the play off mix but then at least another 12 clubs would say the same with Leicester & Ipswich already building daylight between themselves and the chasing pack.

DaveP, Ian Gay, Neil Sutton & Mark Tovey will assess the impact of Nige's post match comments

I think the question from Ian Gay was ‘ would you rather stay in the Championship for 5 season or have a go at promotion?

Err, I’ll have a go at at Promotion if that’s okay, Ian.

Maybe there is a word missing from that sentence which perhaps should read "....have a REAL go at promotion".  I think the view of some is that amongst the many there is a degree of contentedness about plodding on as a mid-ranking Championship side. I would suggest based on recent events that is the measure of SL's ambition  at this time

@DaveFevs - thanks for starting this thread 😀

I'm not a fan of acronyms but if I do post a link to an episode of Forever Bristol City Podcast on here I would preface it FBC Podcast!

Where has all this nest egg bollocks come from all of a sudden? I get that the Lansdown’s are marmite, but do we want owners like the Venkys, the current Sheff Wed one, or be run like Reading. There is never in a million years that Lansdown will recoup the money he’s put in, so hardly a nest egg.

No we don't, but to counter that what about the "owners" of Luton, Brentford & Brighton. There is a risk aversion, allied to the wasteful of the MA/LJ period which suggests we'll only make it to the Prem if we're lucky.

We put the view on FBC Pod Episode today that this be grateful for what we have and where we are is perhaps the view held by the majority of the fanbase.

Listen here from about 30 mins in once we'd covered the game:

Like Silvio, I don’t think Max is brilliant with his distribution, ie not always the greatest decision-maker or executor, but he generally has a better starting position, so he can be a bit of a sweeper-keeper and can be used as a bit of an outfielder player (within reason) too.  Nor does he run backwards when a ball is knocked back to him.  That is something that helps our back-four I reckon.  Add to that the stuff he dies in and around his 6-yard box and he is certainly competent at this level.

Should we push on from 9th towards the playoffs we will get to see his true ability.

    I hope not 😆

I suspect the truth lies somewhere between this and the posts saying the job wasn’t the job Alexander expected. Not all CEO roles are the same and it may be there was a mismatch of expectations on both sides. That may not even be anyone’s “fault” but simply a misunderstanding that wasn’t picked up in the interview process.

You're assuming the interview process was our usual "vigorous & rigorous" approach.

How many people were seen or was it simply, as rumour has it, SL sought Richard Scudamore's advice and went with PA whose track record, on paper, is exemplary - if he could survive Ron Noades & Simon Jordan, I would say SL is a puppy in comparison!

I thought that as well.  It's an unusual departure, but I feel in my bones that at its heart it's because the Bristol City "vision" Alexander was sold when he came here didn't match the reality of the job. Probably he was allowed less independence and creativity than he thought he'd have, so a clash occurred and it was "agreed" he'd leave.

Of course, we may never know the actual reason.  I no longer know anyone who works or plays for the club, so I'm as in the dark as 99% of this forum.

Couldn't agree more [that's a first ?] and in my line of work that is often the reason why people leave after a short tenure following an otherwise stable employment record

It could well explain PA's low profile since he's been here, i.e. realising within a matter of weeks that this was a not an "as sold" opportunity but going with the flow for a few months to preserve personal dignity.
