That was my thinking, I’m sure VAR must have a look if a player falls so dramatically to the floor in those circumstances.

So why can’t VAR  inform the referee that there has been a blatant attempt to deceive the referee through simulation and the offending player should be carded

Because VAR cant give yellows, although I agree they should be able to do this

    I totally agree.

    We've picked up 10 from 5.

If we'd continued the form of the previous 5 we would have 3 points , 47 points to lie only 5 points above relegation.

Well done to the management and the team for turning the form around but relegation fears 5 games ago were not 'hyperbolic'

The alternative take on that is that over 6 games we'd have only drifted 1 point closer to relegation.

We were a long way from a relegation battle. What's annoying is we should have beat QPR and Sheff Wed (on paper) and probably not Leicester in which case we'd have had the points earlier and definitely wouldn't have been a discussion

I think it's Ben White's decision to make himself unavailable for  England duty.

As @phantom said, after a fallout with the camp / Holland.

I'd still give benefit of the doubt to GS and his team on who was in the wrong there, as an outsider looking in. GS has generally been pretty good at dealing with ill discipline - he clearly had Greenwood's card marked with the way him and Foden were treated after the Iceland incident.

I would say that being only 6 points above the drop zone with 11 games to play on the back of 3 abysmal performances (with Ipswich, WBA and Leicester on the horizon) we were absolutely in danger of being sucked in.

The number of teams below you doesn't make much of a difference with that many games to play as most of the teams below were only 3 or 4 points worse off. Hull fans will know all about this.

Credit to Manning and the team that we’ve got to this point with a month left but it’s felt like a slog.

Theoretical danger maybe, we were never going to lose every remaining game - even Rotherham haven't done that.

Only 3 teams were less than 4 points off us, "most" were 6 points or more away. Many have played each other.

  5. Utterly embarrasing from White.

I don't know what it is about him but he seems really unlikable. As much as I think on ability he should be in the England team, I'm giving Southgate the benefit of the doubt on some his exclusion.

  6. I cant see us getting 13 more points, let alone making up a 13 point difference on 6th - although I know you weren't seriously suggesting it was possible.

Realistically we were never in danger of relegation, though I could understand why some people were concerned about where we might pick up points - it's just there's too many teams below us to make up the difference anyway. If you took away the 6 points against Plymouth and Leicester we'd still be 14th.

Personally, would have taken mid table at the start of the season, think we all agree it's the nature of what's happened this season that's bothered everyone - and the messaging from the people in charge.

Lets see what Liam can do over the summer with plenty of time "on the grass" and and interesting transfer window

Also adds to your point you've been making about worrying about the other team rather than putting our mark on the game.

He didn't make an attacking change to give them something to think about, he made a change that worried about the opposition's strengths.

Absolutely pointless in a dead rubber that realistically would have made little difference between drawing 0-0 and losing 1-0.

That wasn’t the VaR explanation Malt. The official VaR reckoned that the player ‘was blocking the keepers view’

    How ridiculous is that?

Why is that ridiculous? That’s offside, has been for a long time it’s literally interfering with the keeper

That's a common fallacy. Just like the tosh that decisions will even out over the season....they don't! I understand that people want to be entertained but flashy football doesnt always cut the mustard at this level. You have to get the boring basics right and earn the right to play because nobody is going to roll over. Some on here seen to want Manning to go gung-ho bombing forward like kids in the school playground and hang the result as it no longer matters. Every game matters! I'd like us to win every one of the last 5 games and finish with 69 points. It'd be nice if all were won by 3 goals or more and included volleys, overhead kicks and rebolas but if we scrape a 1-0 with a shot going 5 yards wide until it deflected off the ugly centre backs arse that'll do for me. Give me promotion with 30 1-0 wins over relegation with 30 3-2 defeats any day of the week.

I think you’re confusing what most mean by a good performance.

It doesn’t need to be “flashy”.

As I said above, 1-0 wins all season would do me fine, but if that’s where you’ve had 40% possession and your keepers got man of the match for making 7 saves then you’ve probably rode your luck rather than a good performance. Can be ok as a one off, but Do that every week and you probably won’t be winning the game very often.

Don’t even need to look back far for an example. Beating Leicester 1-0 was a good performance, beating Swansea 1-0 was not.

I think the ball was gone and the only contact made was by the Celtic player on the Rangers player. You will have winning the ball and contact after. It’s inevitable. That wasn’t the case here.

I’ve had a chance to re watch it a few times now on twitter and I’m not sure either way. My main thought is poor defending and you’re asking for trouble doing that. Silva’s looking for it too.

I agree VAR will never be able to confirm beyond doubt if any contact is “enough”.

I agree it’s not the worst decision I’ve seen, probably not even the worst this weekend.

  12. I’d usually say results over performances. I want us to win, I don’t care how and if get lots of 1-0s and 0-0s and get promoted that’s enough for me.

Lets not forget, as fans we’ll celebrate a win however it comes - the main argument would be if you’re playing sh*t then eventually it’s going to catch up with you and bad performances don’t often lead to lots of good results.

There is very little to be gained from scraping a couple of swansea style wins and yesterdays draws.

This is Mannings chance to impose a style and many would forgo results to see more of what we’ve seen shades of.

Im still of the belief that we’ve won the games we have inspite of him not because of him - Leicester aside though as he did impact that game with subs and changes to style.

we still haven’t gone and dominated against a team around or below us either.

The attitude this season of some Leicester fans gives you an inkling here. Lots of success, but there's a hardcore who are pretty vocal about unentertaining football. It gets louder when they lose, but it's been bubbling under all season.

So i'd expect that there would be a few "people" saying stuff like "we're in a great position but I'm bored..." or "all this success has come at the price of entertainment". Stuff like that.

That’s with added context that they’ve been relegated after several years in the Prem (and winning it).

It would be like us going down and being dead awful to watch even if we had success. Promotion is the bare minimum expectation for them. If we scraped promotion from this league being boring it would be completely different.

Am I the only one who didn’t think it was that bad a decision? You could clearly see the contact from the Celtic defender on Silva. You could argue all day if the contact was enough to send him over, but VAR aren’t here to discuss physics.

There was contact, Silva sent down. Therefore it’s a penalty.

But VAR does need to consider that to be fair, because contact doesn’t equal foul - in the same way that the Brighton defender slightly touching the ball doesn’t mean good tackle

He also wanted to sign Mehmeti at Oxford. Not great signs imo if we are allowing him to spend the nest egg.

Mehmeti looked very good at L1 level though so not really a stick to beat him with

I go with the idea that Maude’s agent or a former colleague asked Manning if he’d take a look at the lad because he’s having a dip in a previously promising career. Of course he has had a good footballing education at Man City and is a type of  player that we are trying to bring into the club so it sort of made sense.

It could have been a good deal if the lad had found his form from before but this is  City and we rarely get lucky.

He isn’t going to find any form rotting on a bench though.

Im fully willing to accept that maybe he’s just not that good, but he’s in an international under 21 squad, he must at least be able to offer our u21s something? He played 26 games in Man City’s u21s but can’t get in ours?

I don't think Palmer really suits Man City's obsession with positional play and possession.

Palmer is not the type of player to get the ball, and pass straight away. He dribbles into space and isn't necessarily a team player all of the time (which is what I want from a Number 10/wide man).

As I said before there's an arrogance about this kid that I really like, he doesn't think he's the best Chelsea player he knows he is and it shows when he plays.

Yea I get what you're saying, he's more of a "proper" winger. I really like him

Hasn’t had enough of a chance for England, I hope that doesn’t cost him a place in the Euros squad.

Respectfully I think you're wrong. 25 games 1 goal last season, was hardly setting the world alight. Was a regular in the U21s squad though.

Obviously has a good head on him, or had some good advice, to step away from City and get more regular football which he's thrived on.

Made his debut in the last international break, and then was injured in this one and don't forget he's had the likes of Saka, Foden, Rashford (til he lost form) and Grealish ahead of him.

I'd be amazed if he's not in the Euro squad

Palmer has been sensational this season yet couldn’t get even a minute of action in the recent England friendlies. Unbelievable!

He was injured and didn't train 🤦‍♂️ was listed as a sub for the second game but clearly didn't want to risk him

I took a trip down Google's memory lane as I wondered when we last had no mention of anything retro or similar. I make it 2017/18.

23/24 - for the second home kit in a row we went straight up retro "The red and white pinstripe shirt, which was inspired by the 1989/90 'Hirerite' kit..."

22/23 - straight retro home kit "City has turned back the clock for the 2022/23 home shirt with a 1950s-style kit for its men’s and women’s teams."

21/22 - nod, nod, nod with "‘One for the Bristol City’ is printed on the inner back hem and B.C.F.C. features on the back of the neck – both of which are a nod to when the club crest previously appeared centrally on a playing shirt."

20/21 - no nods, but a big tribute as "City have launched their new 2020/21 home shirt which pays tribute to the Ashton Gate Eight."

2019/20 - was a special year as this was the season we had the mash up 125 year kit "Including nine different kits dating back to the club’s 1894 birthdate...". A kit now notable for being what we wore in our final game prior to the Covid-19 shutdown.

We also did a cringe-inducing April fool's joke where we announced that "Inspired by City’s 1909 FA Cup final kit, the club will wear a bold blue coloured away shirt next season."

2018/19 - home kit was "original", but this season it was the away kit that did the nodding with "...the return of the crest featuring a Robin perched on a football in front of the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge. It hints at the kit of the late 1980s, an era which saw City lift the Football League Trophy in 1986, followed by promotion from the old Third Division in 1989."

2017/18 - first season I can see where there was no nodding, no tribute, no retro.

2017/18 was a pin stripe remake of the 86 kit

Not sure 21/22 is really a retro, all 3 kits were new styles.

All the adidas and puma shirts were fairly original designs, and tbf so were most of the Bristol Sport ones - 17/18 actually the exception in being retro.

Since then retro has had a comeback all across the board so can see why the club have done it but I agree I'd like to see something more modern next time.

What do you mean by proper team? No team has been better than Man City over the past few years

I was referring to history and establishment as a big club, not one that's just bought their place at the top table like City have.

I also think it's a real shame for their fans that they got their first league win in so long during lockdown and couldn't be in the ground to witness it.

I don't mind Arsenal either, used to watch them a lot, but work with one of their fans and he'd be unbearable 😂

Kane at 30 is a career bottle job. Won nothing. He even bottled moving to Man City.

Haaland at 23 has won pretty much everything.

Much better player than Haaland? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 please.

I think that's incredibly harsh, one player doesn't win trophies alone. He was in a fairly average Spurs side for too long and probably should have moved sooner if winning trophies was his goal.

In terms of the title race it's Liverpool for me. Proper team and fan base (even if some are idiots) and play the most exciting football even against the big teams. The City v Liverpool and City v Arsenal games were worlds apart.

Let’s write off a 19 year old, shall we.

Do you know what Conway was doing at the same age. He’s just come off of a loan at Bath City and was making an odd appearance here and there for us.
Sam Bell at the same age had just come off of a loan at Grimsby.
Let’s even go as far as Vyner. At the same age he was on loan at Accrington.
    I could go on.

Some of the comments seem to suggest the kid can’t even play football and is some sort of competition winner!
    Somewhat disrespectful that chaps.

I’m not gonna get caught up in any hype, but you don’t get voted Man City’s academy player of the year if you are shit. Nor do you get called up to national teams age groups 16’s, 19’s and 21’s.
He actually has the same amount of Scotland u21 goals as Conway. And he’s 2 years younger.

But yeah, let’s write him off because we’ve seen him play 40 minutes of football as a late substitute in a struggling team.

    Yeah ok.

You make a good point, although I think it's rather different. They were all our players going off to other teams to get experience and none of them had a decision coming up regarding a transfer fee.

We're talking about 6 more games for a player who isn't ours to make an impact.

Or, we could give those 6 games to one of our own young lads.

I say this as someone who thought in the brief minutes against Southampton he looked like he had a bit about him. and certainly haven't written him off - but I could see why people would rather not bother, especially given that we're going to have to pay for him.
