  1. McCrorie bought for one system, played in another
  2. The thing with this is, following on from the post I just made, is that I think 14 of the last 16 have been in the championship, but before that it was only 6 out of 23. Thats progress. It’s almost like saying Palace are a boring Premier league club. Again, they’d have bit your hand off for that in the late 90s
  3. Supposed it depends on the timescales in question. 10-15 years ago we’d have bit peoples hands off to be a “boring Championship club”. all through my growing up we were a league 1 club with the occasional season in division 1 / championship. Id say there’s many worse clubs to follow than us - and a few that wish they still existed
  4. You’d assume TGH? Their commentators seemed to dislike him too for some reason, but then they were horribly bias to their own so no surprise
  5. I said it on the thread created with almost the same title last week, but players have two choices when they don’t agree with a managers style. 1. They don’t follow the plan and try to do their own thing to influence the game. This is likely even more ineffective unless they are Ronaldo-like in their ability. They are now the problem and easy to blame. 2. They do exactly as the manager says. It makes them look shit, but there’s only one fall guy at the end. I always used to tell my teammates to stick to 2.
  6. Was 500/1 2 weeks ago, Predictably in those 2 game weeks since only 3 teams below us have managed to win one (and one of those games was Millwall beating Birmingham) We aren’t going down if not simply because there’s too many teams below us who can’t buy a win either.
  7. I agree, but people (not necessarily the poster in here) are being a bit disingenuous bringing up an old comment and suggesting it’s just been said.

  9. Extreme yea, but also 10 years old. Was said after Harry Redknapp said Spurs players would regularly try and get out of international duty
  10. Solanke has been carrying an injury for the last 2-3 weeks
  11. No surprise, he’s been dreadful. Henderson is criminally underrated by some, and none of us have any idea what he offers off the pitch etc. That said, I’d assume or hope he’s a back up player now. Good experience to bring on if needed. Rice, Bellingham plus one other - Trent or Maddison for me (assuming Foden and Saka in front with Kane)
  12. Absolutely. I don't know the answer to this, but what was Pearson's record against bottom 8 teams - or LJ's for that matter?
  13. The problem is the paradox of playing better against better teams who "have a go" and control possesion. The better we are - the less teams we'll face who "have a go" and the more that will come and sit in. This is where I took issue with BT's comments about our style of play and wanting to see us play like we did against Southampton, Watford and the Prem teams etc Ultimately we have to find a way to beat teams when we control the ball. I don't see how we can gain success by only being able to play counter attacking football against better teams
  14. I agree, he's definitely a bit irked about the negative press and unpopularity he's now getting. He's on the defensive - hence the disclosing of transfer fees, and the "i've been here 30 years" and i've earnt it"
  15. It is bizarre that a top 6 club saw him as a signing that would improve them - and we, sat several places lower and with an injury hit squad, decided he wasn't required. Didn't know about this appearance clause
  16. Tbf the host said he was only coming on to talk about the youth cup success, and they said they'd only take him if they could ask him questions about the first team - or words to those effect
  17. Felt like these three comments resonated with my real life experience. Absolutely agree Sam that learning is a continual process, but Pete's comment is equally fair - who is he learning from? He doesn't seem to have a senior mentor or guidance around him? I once found myself in a role that I was deeply inexperienced for, but I was genuine and wanted to give it a good go. I feel had I had a mentor around me or someone to learn from I could have excelled - as it was my boss was a *** and had no interest in helping - I was ultimately hung out to dry and had to leave. I feel that's how Manning's reign could go. I wonder if there's appetite to get in a senior coach, or assistant. It's a shame we got rid of all the previous backroom staff
  18. I was thinking, if you take emotion of the situation out of it, you could spin it as an honest interview. However, and I appreciate I'm late to the thread but only listened last night on my run, there's several things that irked me. Disclosing previously undisclosed fees, seems unprofessional. The Bajic comment was unnecessary IMO He's been at the club "30 years" except those years he wasn't? We weren't 3 points away from the playoffs, no matter how many times he says it. It was 4 points, it's only a point out - but why keep getting it wrong? Doesn't show attention to detail We were 1 point of the playoffs after beating Coventry (2 games before Pearson's sacking) and 2 points off after losing to Ipswich (1 game before). We've never been that close since. Too many times he seemed to suggest Liam needs time etc, but that's not the messaging when he was brought in. The Mebude transfer - again, needs time blah blah. He's a loan signing. he doesn't have time. Why bring in a loan that isn't ready to hit the ground running? Oh, edit - the comment about not comparing to Coventry because they had 20m to re-invest. So did we - we just didn't do it. Lastly, when talking about the style of play, he said he wanted us to perform like we have against, Watford, Southampton, Middlesbrough, Ipswich and the Cup games. Well those games weren't won with the controlled, possesion based football that Manning is trying to implement - all of those games we're played on the counter, seeing much less of the ball. So his answer is contradictory really of what's being implemented. It was a bit of a mess in all honesty.
  19. That's horribly sad. At least he was able to be there
  20. Easy, you hire a PR person. Most companies have a comms team who prep people for public or even internal communications. It's not rocket science. Employ someone with a bit of savvy to spin these statements into something more encouraging as per @Silvio Dantepost
  21. I'm not happy with how we're playing or how he's setting us up, and I wouldn't be upset if we sacked him now - other than looking like a basket case like Watford / Birmingham / Stoke etc However, if he's staying, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt over the summer and see what he can bring in and do with this team and re-judge him after the first dozen or so games next year. I think he's failed the first test - can he get more out of this current lot? No, clearly not, if anything several players have regressed under him. Second test is accepting this isn't his team, and whether we like it or not it's going to need change of personnel to play his way, so given a window and a pre-season what can he do... if after 10-12 games we're still playing this shit, boring style and also not getting results then it might be time to act.
  22. Yet in 4 games against Prem opposition this seasaon we've done alright? Also it wouldn't be this team would it, especially as several are out of contract? Guarenteed 100m for going up, we'd spend and bring players in
  23. What did he really change though? 3 of the subs were obvious and could have probably been called before the game kicked off. Pring for Roberts, yep we know Pring struggled Tuesday and still isn't fully 90 mins fit Sykes for Cornick, straight forward - right winger replaces player playing on the right wing Wells for Conway - striker replaces striker None of it is genius is it? Half the fan base could have made those changes. Many would argue that at least one of them should have been starting.
  24. Mehmeti in his pre match interview talked about game management and seeing out games, decision making rtc Then in the last minute tries to go for goal instead of running the clock down in the corner…
  25. We’ve been better, still wouldn’t call it good. Almost a role reversal of the first half, Swansea have done absolutely nothing and we’ve created a couple of chances and managed to score one of them.
