I was really impressed with Delano burgzorg for Huddersfield last week-looks exactly the type of player we need who can hold it up and has pace. Only 7 goals but is his first season in a new league and in a struggling team so could get to 15 if we signed him imo.

I want to sign him just for his name

Just feels an arbitrary number to me, why not quote top 11

I want us to finish as high in the league as we possibly can. Prior to today I had given up on finishing higher than 11th, and had decisions gone our way, we'd have closed the gap.

If we continue at this rate of improvement I fancy top 6 at least next season. Really excited to see what Liam can achieve with a pre season and a striker!

Wagner said pre-match that he thinks we could be challenging for top 6 next season, and today backs that up.

I think we do need to strengthen though, and get better luck with injuries.

Well, I have succumbed to renewal for City and Bears but I'm still unsure about City being able to do well and  manage to get into the top six after 46 games.

However, as I'm coming up to 81st birthday, still fit and able enough to get to the matches. I have done so because this life isn't a rehearsal, I am keeping all my interests going as long as I can.

So it's dog walking twice a day, model railway construction any spare time, City and Bears for entertainment(?) keeping the garden alive and still doing all the cooking as wife is useless at that. But I still want to see running, flowing rugby and a football team that will provide entertaining matches, win, lose or draw.

PS. Can we please arrange for Rebecca Welsh to referee all of our matches, the best and impartial, referee I have seen in many years.

    Good man!

It sounds like your life is too calm and satisfying to not have City dragging you back down to earth 🤣

To add some balance , apparently hamstring problems after ACL surgery is fairly common. Hamstring pain is common and I read part of a report that said ...

Persistent hamstring contracture ( shortening or hardening of muscles) after ACLR is associated with an increased risk of subsequent Cyclops syndrome.

Cyclops syndrome is caused by a scar tissue nodule adjacent to the tibial tunnel of the anterior cruciate ligament graft after surgery. These lesions result in pain and loss of extension with impingement of the lesion.

There is also no difference from a study, between age, gender , time of injury or proportion of professional athletes .

No good news in there, but at least it's necessarily not down to being injury prone or bad post op care.

@spudski I also read that if they did use part of the Hamstring, it can grow back shorter, which you would think could cause problems stretching or twisting.

Bloody hell, I'm not sure he'll be able to spot a pass when he's got Cyclops Syndrome...

Ayman’s contract runs until summer 2025.

So it that ACL x2 and hamstring x2 now? If so, he'll have his work cut out to build the robustness needed for Championship football.

I guess he at least can repair, recover and then do a full summer programme with a PT to configure his body for the best possible chance of getting through a tough pre-season.

Then one year to prove himself.

Let's face it, Ayman will most likely have to start again a lower level, which is a real shame.

Honestly I’m not sure it bothers them. Remember it’s “their club” and they’ve now got a manager who they believe will deliver top 6. We’d have to get really behind a boycott for them to care IMO.

I think boycotting the club when we're in the top half of the Championship and financially stable would be an odd thing to do.

I'm not saying the board are great, but we're not currently a total shitshow a la Reading or even Birmingham.

This may be as good as we get and he's not even talking about City.

I think the article reminds us of his character traits though, and the hubris of the man.

During that excellent showing in the early stages of this Oxford season we put nine past them over two games. Still one of the football worlds biggest ever mysteries why we then decided to swap our coaching team for theirs???

That isn't a logical argument for so many reasons!

Can only assume anyone saying this is the most boring football they've ever seen didn't experience the Pulis tenure, or was so bored that they spent most of it asleep and therefore have no recollection of it.

Maybe they want the sheer chaos of the Benny Lennartson season again?!

Surprised not to see Joe Williams mentioned this far. Seems to be free from his injury issues, played a significant number of games and looks a vastly improved player

He had an especially good run of form, I think before Christmas? Hasn't made such an impact in recent games, but yeah, he could get close to 40 appearances this season which is a massive step for him.

Not much success??? A lot of us can remember top tier football at Ashton Gate, and for a few seasons we more than held our own. Something a lot of our fans nowadays are unlikely ever to see in their lifetime. (Think about that) Seeing Bristol City play and beat a full strength Man Utd team home and away, winning away at Arsenal in our first game in the top flight.. beating Liverpool, beating Spurs and sending them down I could go on. Now we have Manningball and we’re all supposed to be glasses half full even though we all know our glasses are bone dry.

I think some of the teams in our division, and a few in divisions below us might laugh at your description of success!

Having said that, I'm very jealous that I wasn't around to see it.

The way things are going, we'll reach 50 years outside of the top flight, with a history of zero major trophies, but who knows, the stars might align at some point.

Obviously, I don't agree that we "know that our glass is bone dry", but happy for you to think that, and I'll hope you're wrong.

We're an average Championship side currently, and you'll know from following City over the years, that we've been a lot worse off for many, many years of our post-war history.

  11. Thinking about it, I think Mehmeti is the biggest success story.

I think the majority of fans had written his off as not being anywhere near this level. I think the 'competition winner' line was used about him a few times.

A few months on, he's not only scored a couple of fantastic goals, but I think people are coming round to the idea that he's one of our more effective attacking options.

No doubt some of us still find him frustrating, but if he can continue to improve then who knows what he's capable of next season and beyond.

  12. The big winners I would say are Tanner, Roberts, O'Leary, Mehmeti and Dickie, whose status has all got stronger as the season wore on.

A difficult season for Conway, Wells, Bell and Cornick, with injuries, bench time, poor service and inconsistent form.

I expected more Pring and Sykes if I'm honest. They've just looked a bit average when I expect exceptional.

Everyone else has pretty much done their job.

For me it's just bitty; there's good stuff mixed in with bad stuff and average stuff, and it's a combination of Manning's input, the players' execution and the players' limitations.

That's frustrating other people more than it is me (so far), but worth remembering that it was equally inconsistent under Nige, albeit with a different tactical approach (not better or worse in my opinion).

Couldn't agree more. The quality has varied from the dream results coming true in the First Division to a team of mid teenage boys at the bottom of Division Four. In 1982, I did something that Lansdown never has or never will do. I spent the £90 of cash in my savings bank account on shares to keep City in business. And so did around 2,000 others.

I have little respect now for SL as over 25 years he has spent peanuts on City, City Women and Bristol Rugby. When he completely clears his bank account as I did, I'll grant him some respect. He is taking the piss out of us supporters. Not funding the playing staff to give us a better chance of top quality football.

And employing a head coach who is trying to do the impossible; to play the same style and quality as the Man City's, Real Madrid's with Second and Third Division quality playing staff. They're doing their very best but the style of play that Manning is trying to produce is way beyond our players ability. So send Manning back to Man City where he can coach their thirteen year olds!

Mate, you're definitely a true fan, so huge respect to you. Especially for sticking with the club through the absolute hardest of times.

I love hearing about other eras of our history, even if they don't include much success!

There's nothing wrong with is disagreeing on how hoe things are right now, that's what the forum is all about. I do think you're seeing things as worse than they really are, but let's see how things go next season. If it doesn't go well, I'll put my hand up and say I was just too optimistic!

This was my end of transfer window expectation.

After we’d played Coventry (a) at end of January (GW29) we had 38 points and 7 points off of 6th in 13th place.  Just below my points expectations, but I hadn’t seen the discernible playing style shining through.

My “Sack Manning” view came after Cardiff (h) (GW35) where we had 44 points and 12th points off of 6th place in 14th place.  Only 6 points off of 22nd, although I never thought we’d go down.

I wrote this on 14th March:

    IMG_0032.thumb.jpeg.24728da954f176c173f1ac2d34b74d76.jpeg

I still think results have exceeded performances, not by much, but enough.  Clean sheets against Leicester and Sunderland show that.  And a stuffing of Blackburn with 3+ xG skews the trend a little, but ultimately, I think LM’s impact on our football has been unimpressive.  I’ve been hugely disappointed with his inability to improve us in build-up phases, and results have been gained through winning the ball high up or counterattacking.  We are no longer efficient from set-pieces.  I think he’s missed a real trick in not pressing higher and harder, because he is risk averse.  And that bears out in other aspects too.  He wants a structured game, because he can analyse that.  He knows how to react to that.

So recent results haven’t changed my mind.  Because there is no noticeable method / style / identity, there is no willingness for City to influence.  I’d hoped Leicester and to some extent Plymouth were the new norm.  They weren’t.

Very reasonable post Dave. Shame you're going to have to take it all back when we're top in April 2025, playing like a vintage Ajax side 😜

Edit: from a Google search, he didn't
