  1. Back to Fury, if only he'd listened to his corner who told him to throw his right hand more. The 1-2 down the pipe could have won him the fight. He'll be kicking himself today.

The game plan was clearly to disrupt Parker's rhythm, never stand in front of him, and pot shot. But it's almost like he took the gameplan too literally and forgot that he has to engage enough to win rounds clearly.

Parker seems like a really nice bloke, but he's a very one-dimensional fighter. Klitschko should come out of retirement to fight for the WBO belt because it's there for the taking.

I can't see Parker lasting 6 rounds with Wilder or Joshua.

What now for Fury? If he doesn't trust his power or his chin he needs to find a strategy that can win elite level fights.

Edit: by the way, a draw would have been a fair result

  2. Normally this would be a game that we expect to lose but the current form has got us all a bit giddy.

I guess we'll see just how potent our momentum is right now.

You can guarantee that a win would get us all talking about the Premiership etc etc.

Perhaps a drab 1-0 defeat is more likely and would put our hopes in check? I really don't know...

I'll sit on the fence and predict 1-1.

  3. With Klitschko and Tyson Fury out the picture it leaves AJ with limited eye-catching options. Casual fans won't be enticed by names such as Pulev and Ortiz, so Hearn will be tasked with stacking the card and hosting domestic fights. The AJ/Matchroom plan to break America is held back by his mandatories so it'll be interesting to see if both those fights happen. These chump heavyweights in the US would line up for the money fight and all roads lead to Wilder. That's his only glamourous option.

Actually, at this stage of his develomment, Pulev is a good match up. But with the expectation of the paying public, and his teams own ambitions at such high levels, it now feels like Joshua's fights could lose their sparkle. Klitschko knows what that feels like.

Khan/Brook looks like falling through then. Khan wanting a 70/30 split. What a ***t he is.

Well I don't know why Hearn made it sound like it was close. He's negotiated with Khan's people (is it his family?) before and they always have the 'A-side' approach.

But if it means Brook fights Spence Jr, then it's great news!

  5. So Warren signed up Nicola Adams today. He no doubt had to outbid Hearn, who tried to shrug it off, but something tells me that he hoped that giving Katie Taylor centre stage would entice Adams.

You might not be a fan of women's boxing (I personally think Adams and Taylor will inspire a surge in female participation), but from a promotional perspective don't underestimate Adams' appeal. She's a darling of British sport, an OBE no less, and she's got style.

I actually proposed that Warren should sign her on my website back in December: http://www.bigtimeboxing.co.uk/?p=345

Warren needed to add something different to his stable, which in truth is lagging way behind Matchroom, and this could help draw attention to his new collaboration with BT Sports.

    Will anyone follow her progress?

I was talking about this season. Something seemed to fry Lee's brain over the summer.

I can't agree with LJ being lucky. I mean had we not had a bizarre turnaround away at Wednesday, we'd have been completely flying! Then we got 10 points from 4 tricky games including wins against Leeds at home, and a 4-0 at Fulham. Lucky? It was surreal bad luck to lose the game at Hillsborough and we were fantastic all season despite that...until the international break. Then somehow he lost the players.

I think more than a few pointed out that our results papered over the cracks of our early season form. A few of those results were gained from goals downand just throwing the kitchen sink at teams. Very few good performances but some decent spells.

I keep seeing this comment but is it true? We got 17 points from our first 10 games, plus won tricky cup ties away at Scunthorpe and Fulham. That's not fluke.

We were a good side up until October! Then something happened...

EDIT: We were a good side from February to end of September!

  8. I really think that Kovalev will be kicking himself when he watches it back. After three rounds he was well in charge, but he let Ward regain control of the pace of the action.

Kov seemed content to cut the ring off and land single shots (mostly jabs). On the rare occasion he threw two or three punch combinations he had success, but was way too tentative with his considerable firepower.

I don't know if Kov just tired early on, or if he was wary of Ward's attacking threat, but he didn't 'go for it' in the second half of the fight, and he'll wish he did.

Of course, Ward showed his class to land the more attractive shots and will be relieved to have pulled that out the bag.
